well she was being blackmailed about something... i cant really say what it was about...

apparently it has something to do with the cosplay costume.... and the chairman having some spying devices...

Maybe he caught her masturbating, having sex with Kohsaka... but it definately has to do with the costume... maybe she has been cosplaying on her own or for Kohsaka... who knows... it might get revealed in the next couple of episodes

No Genshiken Season 2

--------------------------------------------------------------------------------
While initial reports from Comiket were that there would be a second season of Genshiken, Moonphase now reports that the project is actually a new, independant Kujibiki Unbalance TV series and a serialised manga.

Monthly Afternoon Magazine, where Genshiken was serialised, has not yet made any announcement regarding the Kujian manga on their website.

From the discussion on that article:

5-26-06 (4:04PM EDT)---- Further Genshiken Animation Likely
Despite widespread reports to the contrary, ANS is hearing that a sequel or further animation to the Genshiken TV series is still likely. The official website www.genshiken.info has renewed after a longtime this week. Many Japanese observers point to 2 things there that could suggest a sequel. Number 1: the new "Copyright 2006" mark on the site. 2: The splash screen happens to be the last scene of the TV series, showing a new member entering the club's room. A new TV or OVA adaptation is being predicted. It was first hinted in a compilation of Comiket 69 news that Media Factory had announced a second season of Genshiken TV to broadcast in October, 2006. Doubt was cast on a possible sequel this week when news surfaced that a Kujibiki Unbalance TV series was due to debut in the fall of 2006 and perhaps the true work Media Factory had alluded to at Comike. Kujibiki Unbalance is an anime within the Genshiken anime.

As the original poster said: "A faint glimmer of hope."

I actually like both of them. Genshiken is great once you get into it and realize Sasahara isn't much of a main character, rather Saki fills that role much better, as she slowly falls into their world. As for Kujibiki Unbalance, its stupid beyond imagination, which is why the Genshiken members all loved it, and it's good for what it parodies.

That was a really good ova. Seemed like a solid piece of plot writing and character use and development. And just as funny as the original series. It was also interesting how they changed the Kujibiki to the new version, quite visibly hanging new posters, and even the moving picture on the little tv during the ED was from the new Kujibiki.

Also, I didn't remember Genshiken had such an impressive cast. But now it caught immediately my attention, and after checking ANN, the cast is nice and famous indeed.

Edit: Fixed some typing...

It was a good OVA start to an excellent series. Perfect casting on Ogiue too. I feel proud that I recognized Kaori Mizuhashi right away. I love Ogiue and Ohno's clashes in the Genshiken, while Kusakabe harasses them both. I wonder how far they will go into that year of the club. The manga goes at least two years beyond where the anime stopped. (I buy them as soon as the tanks are translated by Del Rey)

What was the fighting game Kuchiki was playing with Sasahara before Kasukabe and Kohsaka came in?

I thought that this was a great episode. It was great fun trying to see otakus trying to get some normal fashion going. Madarame did look quite stylish, but Oguie.... LOL, that was way too funny to see!
Is it just me or does Madarame have some sort of crush on Saki? There has been a few hints in the first season, but I think that this OVA answered that question to "yes".

Actually it could be NHK that reminds of Genshiken. After all, Genshiken is two years older than NHK.

Is it just me or does Madarame have some sort of crush on Saki? There has been a few hints in the first season, but I think that this OVA answered that question to "yes".
I think that has been somewhat clear from the beginning, really. In a way they have played that out quite well in the series. Saki has no doubt noticed it, as well, but I guess being more experienced with the opposite sex she can just ignore it more fluently.

Second Genshiken Series to Air This Fall in Japan
The official Genshiken television anime website has announced that a second series has been greenlit for Japanese broadcast this fall. This second television series will be different from the Genshiken video mini-series and the two Kujibiki Unbalance spinoff series. As Moon Phase reports, the Genshiken website also states that the character Chika Ogiue from the manga and video mini-series will appear as the newest member of the Genshiken college otaku club.

So did they find out that the OVAs are selling very well, and not only cover the material in those again, but go out and finish the story? I've really been loving the manga (I bought volume 8 when it came out in March), and Oguie is one of my favorite members of the Genshiken, so I'm glad they'll let her part in the story get as far. I'll be very happy as long as Kaori Mizuhashi is still playing her, she's perfect for the role.

The anime is great, unless you've read the manga volumes this season will cover about fifteen times each, like I have.

It's a nearly perfect adaptation, so as much as I love Genshiken, I have to pass. My fault for reading the volumes so many times, especially 5-8. Ogiue's my favorite character, and as the new member (and as the ED indicates) this season will probably focus on her.

It's a shame, Kaori Mizuhashi is a perfect casting for her too...

A really interesting episode. I have never watched any yaoi shows (aside from Kyou Kara Maou if you want to count that as one) but the art style was certainly readily recognizable as the one used in any shoujo shows/manga. It was made so funny by how the usual gang was depicted, both in art and personality wise. It was a nice detail as well how Ogiue kept integrating new people into the story as soon as she saw them in "real life".

But it doesn't look too good for new pairing, though.

Finally caught up, this show is such good entertainment, I don't want it to end.

So much great stuff:
Ohno x Tanaka

Kasukabe's dream: Kosaka's jubilant explantion of why real women are inferior to ero-games was hilarious

Ogiure has come along nicely though it's unfortunate that there's not really time left for more development between her and Sasahara.

The American chicks, I wish they had used them more for comic relief instead of Kuchiki...Random Note: Yoko Ohno = Epic Win! (try not to choke on the terrible pun).

Some things that were a bit lacking this season: Less Kasukabe, no creepy Chairman, very little Kosaka development whatsoever (though he really doesn't need it), no Saki cosplay (still holding out hope though).

Just one episode left. This series went by way too fast.

Well episode 12 is out. That really was way too fast. But good to see Sasahara finally get a job, though I wish more would have progressed between him and Ogiue. Is there any plans for a 3rd season? Not sure if they could do that considering everyone's got jobs now.

I'm so not ready for it to be all over :(

I think there are at least two more volumes of manga that didn't get to the screen, that's probably enough for another OVA, we've got to have more Genshiken!

Oyabin, looks like their site "Dattebayo" is getting DDOS'd most likely because of their latest post saying they've discontinued fansubbing on Naruto/Bleach/pokemon/etc because of people uploading everything to flash video sites like Youtube. ehh just wait there'll be a YHBT tagged on it & a post about the downtime.

Arg, I wish this series wasn't over! :( Glad to see that Sasahara was finally able to get a job though. If there's more manga volumes that need to reach the screen, I'll be praying for the next Genshiken series to come along real soon. I still want more after going through the first series and this one. Genshiken is one of my all time favorites now along with Full Metal Panic Fumoffu.

Does anyone know if the first series was licensed or not? I want to get the boxset for Genshiken if it is.

All of Genshiken is licensed by Media Blasters that includes the first season, OVA and season two. Hoping there will be a OVA or something to cover the rest since there's some lose ends right now where they ended the show

The first season OVA is the 3 episodes of Kujian, right? They were put onto the Genshiken DVDs? Did they ever make a series of Kujibiki Unbalance (I think they did)

There were three Kujjiun 'episodes' released with the original DVD releases of the first 12 episodes of Genshiken. back in '04 that are meant to represent the 1st, 21st, & 25th episodes of the same anime watched by the Genshiken crew in their world.

In '06 they made a 12 episode TV series based off the Kujibiki Unbalance in Genshiken but not directly related to the three OVA episodes. In each of the 3 DVD releases for that Kujiun series was an ep of the Genshiken OVA. These Genshiken OVA's were essentially Genshiken eps 13-15.

Then of course in '07 we got Genshiken 2 and who knows what its DVD's will hold.

Was the Kujjiun series fansubbed at all? And did the Genshiken OVA have anything to do with the series itself (and by extension the manga)?

In each of the 3 DVD releases for that Kujiun series was an ep of the Genshiken OVA. These Genshiken OVA's were essentially Genshiken eps 13-15 .

This line is meant to convey the fact that the three ovas follow directly after the original 12 episode series in terms of story. If the original Genshiken had been 15 episodes the three OVA's would have been the 13th, 14th, and 15th episodes (albeit with different animation).

The OVA's pick up the manga story from where Genshiken stops and Genshiken 2 picks it up from where the 3rd OVA left off. Not watching the OVA's would be like skipping episodes 13-15 of a 27 episode anime. Considering new characters are introduced and the plot advances you're missing out if you don't watch them.

In case you were planning to ask they were subbed by gg. gg's tracker has apparently kicked the bucket but I believe they are still on irc bots in #gg on rizon.

Genshiken, the Genshiken OVAs, and Genshiken 2 all represent a single continous story, the same story that is in the mange, except the manga doesn't end where Genshiken 2 ends.

The Kujiubiki Unbalance episodes released with the Genshiken S1 DVDs (which are NOT related directly to the 12 episode series) can be obtained either here (http://www.mininova.org/get/257887) by Anime-Faith and Digitalpanic or as part of the [LIME] Genshiken DVD batch (http://www.mininova.org/get/249051) which also includes all of Genshiken season 1.

The 12 ep series was subbed by some group called yu which has since fallen off the earth

Kujiun 01-03 - [yu] (http://www.isohunt.com/download/22500400/kujibiki+unbalance)
Kujiun 04-06 - [yu] (http://www.isohunt.com/download/27194598/kujibiki+unbalance)
Kujiun 07-09 - [yu] (http://www.isohunt.com/download/21891347/kujibiki+unbalance)

I can't find torrents for eps 10-12.

Thanks for the clarification. Seems a little difficult to get the OVAs for Genshiken...though I suppose they counted on the fans to buy Kujiun in order to watch them. Once again hard since no one's fansubbed that really either
