damn, give me back my eyes, the way they colored the clothes is painful... not to mention he background.... the graphic just screams 'expermental!'... it's like they colored each still frame without considering the next\last one...
bout the story? well, the main guy (albert) is three times gayer then Shinji, and the count is trying too hard to be alucard that it just isn't funny... what the hell happened to animes with kickass (or at least tolerateable) charecters?

Being a huge fan of the original novel, i have to say that i had a very bad impression of the first episode : the very weird textures, the akward setting (why always the future ?), the count being a vampire (!) and the fact that the story began at chapter 31.
But i continued watching and now i'm completely addicted i/expressions/face-icon-small-smile.gif I even got used to the texture (even find it somewhat original) and the setting. And it's suprising how the story is true to the original (for now). Another thing that i like is that the intro narration is in french ^^ (with a huge japanese accent, but still !).
A few adaptation made me laugh, like Bertuccio being a badass bodygard (he's supposed to be an italian cook) and Maximilian being a super strong war hero (he was a sailor).
Anyway, i'm eager to see how they will adapt the rest of the serie i/expressions/face-icon-small-smile.gif

I just watched ep 1 and it was intristing cause i didnt expect it to be in the future and space when i heard it was gonna be about The Count of Monte Cristo. The Count seems intristing. Thier outfits is pretty annoying other than the first ep was good. I hope they will make a new twist on the story and not follow the book so much.
Gonna watch ep 2 and 3 now.

I am definatly enjoying this series. Though, yes, did have to get over the coloring technique, but the story made it worth it. Definatly thing this is one of the good series this season and as always, waiting for the next episode.

I think this show keeps getting better and better. The story line is very interesting and I can't wait for the next episode, seems like it will be pretty good.
Edit: Episode 18 was really good. T_T and the end was very sad..that would suck to have something like that happen on your birthday.. Well, I am really looking foreward to how they are going to wrap this series up in 6 episodes.

Well, I was browsing stuff online and came across this as the DVD+box has been released (10/25/05). Since I didn't catch the subs way back when, this is directed at anyone who saw this:
Is it buy-worthy? I've read over the reviews on here and other sites, and most people (90% or so, it seems) like it hands down. So, considering that I like what I've read, should I skip trying to track down months-old-possibly-non-existent BT files to check it out and just start the box set?

Well, me personally, I believe this is one of the best anime period! The music/soundtrack is awesome as well. If you want, you can just download the episodes on www.boxtorrents.com. I loved the use of colors, animation, music, and plot. For me, it was the best anime I've seen so in 2004-05 so far. If you have read the Count of Monte Cristo by Alexandre Dumas, then you will realize that the anime stays true to the story for about 90%. There are things that differ, one obviously being the time setting of the story. I believe it is a good buy if you would like to add a kick ass anime to your collection.
EDIT: There is a noteable hint of homosexuality in the anime, in case some haven't noticed. There is nothing wrong with that, my brother and I just noticed the subtle hint of it after watching the second to last episode.

i honestly think gankutsuo is one of the best adaptations of an alexandre dumas novel, period. sure they change a few elements of the storyline here and there but this series does what a lot of other movies or shows fail at doing-- which is to capture the spirit of dumas' writing. the unusual animation is a bit jarring at first but your eyes get used to it so it doesn't detract from paying attention to the story.

Watched this recently, really enjoyed it. Good music, great plot, great characters. I thought the way they animated the clothes was awesome. I don't like mecha much, so I'm happy that the show didn't focus too much on that. One of my favourites out of the ones I've watched recently. I didn't know it was an adaption before the 15th episode or so, never read the book. I guess the title should have tipped me off..
