tsunde-sama50 I think you may want to re-watch ep 76-80.

As for Haku, Naruto didn't really fight him, that was Sasuke. Sure, he used the kage bunshins, but didn't really do anything. He was trying to escape more than attack. Naruto beat him, but it wasn't really a fight (more like an ass-whooping) once Naruto powered up.

Personally, I think Gaara was Naruto's toughest opponent. But his toughest match would be a toss-up between the Neji one and the Gaara one. Sure, Gaara was stronger than Neji, but Naruto really had to struggle a lot more in the final chuunin exam (except maybe in the very end of the Gaara fight).

Since tsunde-sama50 sent me a pm guess I have to reply to this. Of course his toughest fight was against Neji. Neji was the only person to force him into using Kyuubi without needing to see one of his friends in danger. I don't consider the Gaara fight that hard considering Sasuke did the hard part of getting Gaara to remove the sand shield, if Gaara was calm in a fight against Naruto he would've won. Naruto isn't fast enough to get through the sand wall.

If you want to include fights that weren't that serious, then it would probably be Orochimaru. That fight lasted only a couple minutes, and he lost even with the Kyuubi chakra.

I'd have to say Gaara.

Neji fight --> had some internal damage as well as that AWESOME 64 tenketsu hit. Also, got blasted a couple of times by that whirlwind attack. However, Naruto did manage to pull off a win, just resulting in him tiring out a lot.

Gaara --> completely collapses at the end. He was forced to use mass kage bunshins, summoning gamabunta, AND get that little extra chakra from Kyubi after punching Gaara awake.

Based on what I've said, I would have to say the toughest opponent is Gaara by far. Still, we dunno what will happen later on in the anime.

Well, as pointed out Naruto has fought in one way or another with the Third and all of the Sannin.
He did not fight Itachi.
So take your pick, whoever you think is strongest.. From what I've seen, I'd say Orochimaru.

Out of the more common responses:
Haku- sucks, but Naruto couldn't beat him alone
Neji - obviously sucks because Naruto beat him
Gaara- if they fought 1v1 at full health, garaa would kill him in a second with desert coffin

Of those 3 Gaara is the toughest. IMO it goes Gaara>Haku>Neji

If you mean serious fights, then definitely Gaara. If you mean all his fights, then the worst fight where Naruto got owned big time was against Tsunade. One finger and no jutsus at all in few seconds...it can't get any worse. As for Naruto vs. Oro, Oro was using a huge snake and Naruto actually stopped it, so it's not as bad as his fight against Tsunade.

it really depends on whether the question is "who was the strongest opponent that naruto has fought" or if its "who gave naruto the toughest battle"

because naruto has beaten stronger opponents with less effort as he learns better jutsus.

I'm pretty sure he would have died. Kabuto damaged Naruto's heart BECAUSE that was how he converted chakra from Kyuubi. Without that connection, Naruto was on his own, hence the sequence of things getting dark for Kyuubi.

However, any other injury short of getting his head chopped off could possibly be healed by Kyuubi.

As for toughest battle, I don't think it's fair to say that Kabuto was the toughest because he almost killed Naruto. Come on, the only other person who was actually trying to kill him was Gaara. And even Gaara was playing around with him.

Hmm ... thats a hard one. The one fight he always gets owned and would be embarrissing: Sakura-chan. I mean common, a dim wit half ass ninja with no skill owns him every time. You can't really say its Tsunade because of her insane strength IMHO. But ... for all around hardest fight for him to take its a tie: Nagi(forced him to use Kyuubi like it was said earlier) and Kakashi(1000 years of pain).

Thoughest Opponent: Gaara.. He had to crawl like a worm, thats how tired he was after that fight..

He drained his own chakara, Kyubi chakara and Gamabunta chakara.. And Gaara only drained his own and the sand-demon chakara.. And im not really sure that he drained the demons chakara.. The transformation just disapered when he woke him up.. The demon seemed like he could go on and on..

And the sand-demon beat Gamabunta.. If Naruto would not have been able to wake up Gaara then Gamabunta would have been toast..

that's because sand demon only awaken by gaara sleeping.. that's why gaara never sleeps

Yeah so practicly he did not even drain the sand-demons chakara.. And thats why i think he was the thoughest.. And i do think that Naruto would lose to both Neji and Gaara if they both fight again.. Nether of them will underrestimate Naruto again, witch was (by my opinion) the biggest reason they both lost..
