My all time favorite list though (in order) is:
1) FF4j/FF2us
2) FF6j/FF3us
3) Suikoden 1

I do agree the list is underrepresented. I voted Tales of Symphonia because it's the only one up there that makes my top three. Seriously, though... where are Lunar and Xenogears? Greatest games of all time, that they are.

FF7 - though some hardcore RPG gamers complain that FF games aren't real RPGs i/expressions/face-icon-small-tongue.gif

Shenmue was cool, but the fighting scenes were a bit naff, and that motorbike bit at the end was really shit. The amount of stuff you could do though was well good...

my only problem with ff6 is the spell ultima. somewhat too powerful, so thats why i usually go for the sword instead.

If you want to get REALLY technical, Kane, the basis for all RPGs is Dungeons and Dragons, the first PC RPG Ultima and the first Console RPG Dragon Quest.

thats kinda true, but dont forget that ff7 started the whole CG trend which like 100% of rpgs now-a-days use. including the rpg/movie xenosaga

I've never met someone that said FF isn't a real RPG... FF is the backbone of the RPG industry. So many people rip off FF bits and pieces that it just wouldn't be the same industry without it. Now games like Zelda... not really an RPG in my mind.

^^ I just remember there were a few people who went on and on about it on gamefaqs back when I went there (don't go on it anymore cos it'd be such a pain in the arse to sign up again). It was one of those "favourite RPG" threads and whenever someone said an FF game they started getting pissed and went on about how "true RPGs can't be so linear like the FF games are" or something like that... Maybe they played some old fashioned non-videogame RPG that I'm not familiar with or something *shrugs*

And your point is? It doesn't matter what made RPGs popular, it's ROOTS are at the utmost basic in pencil and paper. CG is just another way of displaying things. I'm not saying the older games are BETTER mind you... however, I derive far more pleasure out of playing the sprite-based Lunar than I do out of the polygon based FFs.

Actually... if you want to get really technical, then RPGs have been around for much longer... I mean, whenever kids pretend to be something they're not, they're role-playing, and occasionally it takes place in a game-like form. So RPGs have been around... for a very long time... (wow, I feel stupid for stretching my definition that far)

I liked Star Wars: Knights Of The Old Republic even more then I liked PSO. But PSO is far more addicting then SW: KOTOR and it has much more hours of gameplay so my conclusion is: download/rent KOTOR and lock yourself up with a computer and buy PSO when you finished KOTOR.

i played chrono trigger on zsnes once it was pretty good from what i remember, id play it again but dont really ave the time, also ff5 was tops, i think it was identical to ff2 though, its the one where the bad dude ends up being a giant tree and the 2 planets that were seperated reform into one.

thats the only ff game ive played though so dont blame me if my description is vague if what i described is what happens in all ff game
