Okay. That... was gay. Which wasn't very unexpected.
Where did I see this before? Mysterious bishounen villain (green-haired ninja) wreaks havoc. Obnoxious guy starts a fight with Naruto (rest assured they'll be best friends at the end of the arc). Naruto is being stupid. Sasuke is being silent. Yay. And still no other characters involved. And wtf, B-mission "with the possability of A-mission" WITHOUT Kakashi and they didn't even flinch?! I thought a freakin' C-mission was rare for a genin.
However, it's interesting that Idate has a relation with Ibiki (the chuunin examiner during the written test, with all the scars) because they both have the surname Morino and Sasuke made a remark on it. So who do you think he is, his bastard son?
Oh and Kagari and his jolly pack of masked moron ninjas with disturbing outfits will be back next week! Should make a particular poster happy...
Again I must stress that it's interesting that a filler character has a relation with a character who appears in the manga. This makes the filler lots more interesting even though the character in question is minor.

Thanks for opening up the thread, Isaac ;P.
I'm pretty sure Sasuke was WAY faster than that guy.............. Sasuke circled gaara like 50 times b4 he actually attacked...

Wow, he is so bishounen his eyes look gay!! But he has an angsty!knife or something. That means some brownie points for him.
Seems that the giratory needle-throwing umbrella is a popular attack in the Rain, mh?
::continues watching::
Edit: Why does everyone think Sakura is so pretty?
Edit edit: Maybe I'll die my hair cotton-candy pink just to see how guys react to me!!
Triple Edit: Ah!! He copied Lee's techinique!! The director was surely feeling creative!!

@Ervin: No probs
@Winged Dancer: Indeed that is a typical indication of a bishounen, his girly eyes will reflect you into the depths of Fangirlia, unless your will is strong! And not only is the needle rain popular, everybody who aren't ninjas in Naruto sucks!
Everybody thinks Sakura is pretty because she's the female lead.
I think I'll go act like an asshole so I can become evil enough to kill my brother and then sell my soul to a 50 year old pedophile and see how the girls respond to THAT!

Weirdly enough, if they react the same way they do in anime, they'll love you and stand in line to gush at you.
Thanks the Gods, I was long ago saved from the depths of Fangirlia by my brain, who suddenly screamed "ENOUGH OF THAT S**T!!!!" and pulled me up. I'm in debt with it forever.
Also, whoa, that non-ninja-guy who hates ninja and yet uses ninja training is capable of being as dumb and childish as Naruto!! I like him already. I'm waiting for them to say something like "Well, my dad can beat up your dad!!" but Naruto doesn't have a dad and the other guy most probably doesn't either.
Edit: Why don't people realize Sasuke is a ninja?? I mean, he has this big bandana that just screams "IMMA NINJAAAA!!" if you ask me.

lolz; sasuke, naruto, and sakura are lot stronger than last time. Naruto beat neji for heaven sakes. Sasuke knows the chidori so i do think they are ready for a B rankah mission.

Tsunade realized Naruto is the redefinition of "annoying" so he sends him on A and B rank mission cause these have the highest chance of Naruto being killed. Yay for Tsunade-obachan.

Is it me or has the animation in Naruto gotten poor lately? I was hoping for something more original in this episode, but didn't get it.
On Sakura, I don't think she's really all that pretty, shes just average. I am hoping when he was hitting on her is was just to make the waitress think he was with them or friends with them to be able to leave the bill with them.
Isn't Sasuke like as fast or faster than Lee, so he should be able to keep up with him no problem I dont see how Sakura and Naruto will be able too though..
I didn't care all that much for this episode. I hope this gets better and soon....

I liked this episode.
Did anyone else think maybe Tsunade only told them it was B rank so Naruto wouldn't bother her about giving them dumb missions?
Another explanation could be that its higher rank because Kakashi is not with them. Perhaps it would normally have been a C-rank.
About why they couldn't catch up to the guy. If I remember correctly, somebody during the Chuunin exam said that Sasuke takes up a whole lot of stamina maintining his "Lee" speed. Since he's a marathon runner, I would assume this guy can keep up that speed for a really, really long time. Also, since his training is focused on speed solely, not even fighting (from what we've seen), it's reasonable to say that he can go as fast as Sasuke and Lee. So, Sasuke might be able to keep up with him, but in the long run, the new guy would outrun him.
I think that if/when this links up with Ibiki, it might get interesting.

The episode was ok. There wasn't that many new ideas, and some of things did not make complete sense, but it was ok. I agree that sending a couple of 1st year Genins on B-Rank missions without Kakashi doesn't make sense, but I'll that's the way they want it.
Oh yeah, with all the talk about Lee, what's going on with him? Tsunade finally raises her percentage to cure him at 58%, and then suddenly they stop? Is she like, "let's let Lee suffer for bit in agony and pain even though I can probably cure him right now, and Gai also agreed that Lee should do the surgery"? It is kind of weird that Naruto and co. are doing all these missions and extending Lee's pain.

I think they didn't want kakashi in the show because it'd be absurdly easy. It wouldn't really matter how strong the opponents naruto and company would run into, kakashi would somehow own them.
Also I think they didn't want him in there because he's also absurdly fast, probably faster than the runner dude. It'd kinda skew the whole thing.

Thu, 09-23-2004, 01:42 AM
1. sasuke doesn't have the stamina to be as fast as lee for long, kakashi said that during his fight with gaara.
2. they are alone because half of the villages ninja's are dead since the attack, they can't spare a jounin for a b rank mission right now and still be able to do all their A rank missions.
3. I didn't mind the episode it'a not gonna progress the story any but it could be an ok side story as long as it doesn't go more than 3-4 episodes, anything more than that and it's gonna be dragging.

It makes me wonder if Lee could beat that guy in race. It looks like they have similar learning techniques, but lee's insanely fast and put a lot of practice into it.

@aznj50: Even if they are stronger, they are still only gennin.
fremeer
Thu, 09-23-2004, 02:46 AM
the strength difference between a high-level genin and a chunnin isnt to high because obviously naruto and sasuke is in contention for a chunnin upgrade. Naruto and sasuke could probably beat most of the weaker chunnins and naruto could probably beat nearly all if he uses kyuubi. hell if anything bad happens summon gamabunta
B-rank mission is easier then the first mission they had and gaara was able to complete a B rank mission pretty easily.

Hm, as far for FINALLY no filler and the reasonable animation (Sakura looked like a dog for a moment) I'd say this was an ok episode.
For bringing in a new storyline... I think this one is far better then any special we've had, plus the fact that we will be getting some fastpased action at last, brings the hope to me, that I can accept this break in the öfficial"storyline .
The only thing that bothers me is that the new scriptwriter(s) tend to go overboard with the whole "stupid/dumb Naruto" thing ... I'm not watching the series to JUST see Naruto behave foolish, I want him to own.
Als , the one thing we are seeing here, is that Naruto is taking the lead.. I was like..WTF :?:?:?.. Sasuke would NEVER accept the lead from Naruto, not even if it would mean his death..

I thought that it was a decent episode. Better than I expected. The only let down in the whole episode was the crappy animation in some of its parts. I liked the runner guy. He's cool and has a personality somewhat similar to Naruto. The villain ninja looks queer.

I agree there. Both here and in the las special episode one of the "spotlights" was Naruto being an idiot. For instance, remember the deal with the dog poo? It wasn't even funny!! And noooo, we had to endure it for the entire fuggin' special!!
So I know Naruto isn't the sharpest tool in the shed (probably one of the dullest), but he isn't that idiotic either...
However, I still thing this filler was better than the last one. Maybe because the "Moyanin" were just so, so, so bad and so gay it wasn't even funny.

Personally, I enjoyed the episode. Interesting concept for a story...and it made that "chase" episode from a while back not so bad, where tsunade was with the leader of the wasabi clan....At least Jorouchi wasn't completely unimportant.

i/expressions/face-icon-small-tongue.gif Of course I'm happy...the return of the mist nins....lucky....i hope they don't suck it up again.
But terra, These are no ordinary genins.
Tsunade saw Naruto battle Kabuto, and he's grown tremedously since the Zabuza mission (which was A-rank, and they did quite well.) She knows he can handle it.
Second, sasuke has chidori and sharingan, not to mention he is STILL one RUDE ass ninja, pwn3d by itachi or not. Don't forget he stood toe to toe with many a foe, even oroe. (the extra E on oro was for rhyming effect.)
Third, we have Sakura...
....
she's pretty smart, I guess. and she sure learned alot about sitting and purchasing flowers and items...which are important skills to have during a mission...

Again, I'm quite sure the entire village of Konoha knows that those 3 aren't normal genin. But still, genin should get genin mission except a few VERY special cases (remember the big deal about Gaara finishing a B-rank mission). Now I'm not saying that the whole thing is unthinkable, but I'm saying that THEY RECEIVED A POTENTIAL A-RANK MISSION AND DIDN'T EVEN FLINCH! Even if they ARE good, they should react and everybody around was like mega-calm even though Kakashi wasn't with them. Just comes across as lame IMO.
You're right about Jorouchi. I actually had already forgotten his last apperance when we saw him this time. It's a good thing that they link the fillers together, makes it feel kinda like Fullmetal Alchemist where even the fillers had some sort of significance in the end.

It could be possible that the Lee operation could be happening at the same time, but this is just too out of place. Build up the drama, and then let's joke around for the next few episodes. I mean, it's only his life... Let's shove it aside for awhile... I do hope that they are concurrent because if they are going to wait for Naruto and co. to come back from all their missions before doing the Lee surgery, that would be just aweful.
As for the mission being a B rank, didn't Tsunade figure that something must be wrong when the representatives did not arrive? That means there could be a possibility of an enemy threat that could of killed that envoy, so B rank seems to be correct, with or without Kakashi. Now, with her saying that it has potential to be A rank, what is a bunch of Genins doing on an A rank mission without their sensei? Don't they have Chuunins to do this sort of thing? I agree with Terra that their reaction to this was lame. Naruto should have shown a lot more excitement or something.

I really liked this episode, and I think I'm going to like this whole story arc. It reminds me alot of the Country of Wave mission. Looking at the episode, I can't see any reason why a Naruto fan would dislike it other than plain old anti-filler elitism.
Well I think whoever came up with this arc did a decent job and I'm looking forward to Team 7 fighting against ninjas of their own level without any high-level support.
Considering that we're past episode 100 now and this is only the second mission they've gone into depth on, I'm quite pleased with it.

it wasn't as bad as i expected it to be, BUT...
- we can see clearly that it's lacking and will not be as good as zabuza's arc was
- there's just a lot of filler in it ( we can all sniff it i/expressions/face-icon-small-wink.gif )
- unrealistic behavior of characters
the only real thing i liked about this ep was the only real behavior of sasuke when naruto was saying "blablabla im naruto blablabla and i'm called "usura tonkachi- sasuke" usura tonkachi..." and then he goes "no no no" i/expressions/face-icon-small-tongue.gif i'm pretty sure sasuke would really behave like that, and naruto would deny of course...
i think it'll end in 2 eps and then we can get good sh*t and be back to reality, cuz right now even I (as I feel like a big fan i/expressions/face-icon-small-wink.gif ) am tempted to give it a break but i'm just downloading eps on thursday like always...

This episode still feels a lot like a filler because it didn't progress enough. So far the villain is that queer umbrella guy that appeared for 1 scene. They should have cut out the irrelevant parts and ended it with a cliffhanger.

I have a nasty feeling that Sakura is about be the hero in the episodes to come. The other two will be too cocky and get trapped, but she'll save the team, Tsunade will thinks shes ace cos she saved two baddass ninjas, and train her.....which means good things for all you Sakura lovers out there!

It was pretty good, I wasn't expecting them to make up another story to fill in the time though. It'll be nice once the manga gets ahead enough for the anime to start following it again. Hell they've gone over 2 years and they're finally getting to the catch-up point, that's pretty good in my opinion.

well that was a pretty decent ep...kinda slow, but still.
i find it wierd how many ppl didn't like this ep....there were quite a few ppl who wanted more missions, and now we've got one....and its not *totally* lame either. hopefully we'll have a few good fights, and some serious scenes. they've had a nice relaxed atmosphere for too long now i think. we need some suspense/action.
as for the characters, its kinda kool that they brought in a rain nin...and it seems next ep, those scuba wearing nins are commign back from the dead i/expressions/face-icon-small-tongue.gif. wonder if they'll use that bushin technique again. That runner guy (idate) seems too much liek naruto. its like an older version of konohamaru.
oh, and as for his relation to morino ibiki....the guy tells them his name in the restaurant, but sasuke doesn't think anyhitng of it...but when its said later on, he seems surprised...whats with that? it seems unlikey to me that this guy would be related to ibiki...first, ibiki isn't a major character and not really that important, compared to the jounin teachers or Anko. also, it seems unlikely that sasuke would know ibiki well enuff to know/remember his full name, or care if he finds someone else with the same name. i think it'll probably be somethign else that'll be explained later.

i liked this ep in terms of filler, it was better than the others
and like most mentioned before, it is really similar to the country of the waves/ waterfall?
yes, how there was no reaction to how hard the mission was gonna be was quite stupid, maybe they accepted it because they new there werent any spare more powerful ninjas that were able to help out
i just noticed the morino ibiki thingy reading peoples post, didnt really catch sasukes reaction to it

WARNING WRITING THIS POST @ 3AM DUE TO THE FACT I CAN'T FALL BACK TO SLEEP:
I didn't mind this episode at all, better then the last two (am I the only one that thought the last one was just stupid?). I was a little surprised with the whole taking off the weights from the legs and running like Lee, that kinda caught me off guard and I was like WTF, another Lee, thats all we need now.
I kinda like how the story is progressing again, though a little slow ... almost started to remind me of pokemon there for a while with the whole explaining of the race and what they were going to do *shivers* I hope to god they stay clear of that.

The fact that Ibiki isn't a major character is what makes their relation a possability. By including relatives to the minor characters, fillers directors won't risk fucking up the continuation while at the same point make the viewer slightly more interested. See if they included for example Sakura's long-lost sister it would be something really big and nothing you'd leave in a filler. But play around with Ibiki's family doesn't matter because he's hardly around. And Ibiki has the same rank as Anko. Special Jounin. They are equals. The thing about Sasuke remembering the Morino name is pretty stupid when it comes to that he shouldn't remember it, but hey, someone has to remember it and spark our interests. Not like filler directors really care about that.
Rek
Fri, 09-24-2004, 04:19 AM
Sakura would be more prone to remember something like that tho....
and to everyone saying that they shoulda sent chuunin out to do this mission because jounin are too cool and genen are smelly hoes, Chuunin kinda need to do alot of work around the village. Genin don't get enough respect to do the stuff that hasta be done in the village, and its possible that the wasabi's didn't send enough money for them. But out of all the Genin teams.. its pretty much decided that kakashi's team seven is closest to chuunin level. (not to mention naruto knows boss jambalaya) so it kinda makes sence
BUT THEY FUGGED UP SASUKE. apparently when the corporates get a hold of the script they decide to change sasuke. he seemed too personable... but maybe thats just me... ionno

This episode makes me wonder how long this mini arc is going to be, the runner will obviously have to share his feelings & flashbacks over why he hates ninjas as Naruto pushes him to open up (Maybe Ibiki's tortured head scares him).
As for the B rank mission, their absence of reaction was a bit poorly done. If all the jounins are out on missions however Naruto's team would be the obvious choice as Tsunade knows Naruto's power (& probably Sasuke's) and also Naruto knows his boss. Repairing buildings or doing minor missions around Konoha wouldn't be too good when you have a hot blooded, moody and useless ninja trio.

And I hate Morino. He's such a typical filler character. He has some sad past, hates ninjas because of it, and is sour to everybody. I wish Naruto would just bitchsmack him and say "Shut the fuck up. You're not even a real character!"
Instead of trying to make everything so serious, the creators should just try to incorporate funny episodes. Like Fumoffu.

when i saw this guy i thought of hitler.
tsunade saw naruto in action so maybe she thinks naruto can handle something like this mission.
ibake (whatever his name is) acts exactly like naruto. except he's older than naruto. and he hits on 12 year old girls. and he is a Lee wannabe but just not as cool as Lee. i don't like him.
MORE ACTION!!! so if they fight in the next epi i'll be happy. i wasn't enthusiastic about epi 102. i had it for 2 days and didn't watch it. is my love for naruto gone??

there should be explosions
(and a good reason that little runner dude hates big scarred and scary is because he was his favorite (dad/uncle) and he went thru one of those tortures and forgot about him (due to memory modification) and was sent to tea country to pimp it up and say "WASABI")

i know the green haired guy was supposed to be the villain, but he wasn't that impressive in terms of skill and l33tness. I mean common, we've all seen how gaara Pwned that Raining needles technique a while back i/expressions/face-icon-small-wink.gif i dunno about you guys, but having a strong villain kinda helps increase the overall tension and suspense (and thus interest i/expressions/face-icon-small-wink.gif) of the plot.

we wouldnt know for sure how strong the rain mist dude is, he said that he was going easy on them by not killing them
you cant really compare this green haired guy to those that gaara killed, he did kill genins after all
this guy could be on a whole nother level
but we wont know for sure until we see

arg to clear up the whole lee and sasuke being of equeal speed thing if it hasnt been cleared up already sasuke IS as fast as lee without lee using lotus (duh) but he doesnt have the endurance to keep up a highspeed fight like that like lee can because hes only been doing it for a short time this was stated in an earlier episode and.... yeah its been buggin the hell outa me that it keeps coming up.... Rock lee > sasuke in speed

I really dont see why people are having such a problem with this episide...
So the guy has leg weights... makes sense to me since hes friggen training to run ...
Sasuke speed thing is semi acceptable. I'm sure Sasuke could catch up to him but then he'd be tired / less energy for a guy that isnt really worth catching up to. What I didnt like was how Sasuke was gasping for breath like Naruto and Sakura were but meh... only minor.
Its kinda funny, if they have a quick 5 second flash back about the lack of Ninja in the village when Tsunade gave them the mission, we'd see a different whining on the boards. Instead of rank issue, we'd see "we dont need flash backs of previous eps!" bah...
The story progressed a heck of a lot faster then what I was expecting so i'm guessing this arc is gonna be about 5 - 7 eps.
I really dont like the way the story is setup thou... I really think this arc should be a mission in which the trio fails. I'm thinking more or less an escort mission in which the genins screw up and get there escort killed while they remain perfectly safe and unharmed since they are Ninja.
Maybe in the next filler arc? I dont think this filler arc will be the only one. I really think they'll do another "day in the life of naruto" arc cause honestly, we need more of it (its fun to watch, admit it. How many times have you wanted the trio to do a regular action involved mission? especially after the haku arc) and the current manga progession changes the story alot.
Another thing i dont like about this arc is how there is a good side and a bad side. Both families should be equal, making it more interesting in showing how Ninja's are just tools. Unfortunetly Konoha Ninjas are always on the side of good.
Hotsuma : Your really starting to sound like an old man. You havent liked anything in naruto (both manga and anime) in awhile but still watch it just for the sake of it or its "part of your routine" so to speak. Sorry, i'm not here to flame but its getting really annoying...

I think the ep was nice, it set up a new storyline and that thing in the end left you wondering.
why'd Idate start running along the coast and skip the boats?
Before that you could see the merc ninja grinning, maybe he set something up on the boats like traps or an illusionary technique. and only Idate could see it. wonder where he's going now.

I'm new here, but I think I can clear a few things up...
1. A rank mission?
This is there third A rank mission, Zabuza was A rank but not recorded, and Naruto and Sakura completed an A rank mission during the chuunin exam (Chase Sasuke and Sand-nin. Sasuke was also considered to be chuunin level by the examiner who was on the field who told him to chase Garaa.)
2. Morino...Idate?
When the announcer announced the racers, it WAS the first time they heard his full name. When he first introduced himslef at the tea shop, he called himself the "great Idate". After he tripped, he called himself the "swift Idate". And the Boss didn't introduce them because they already knew each other.
3. Idate's speed
He is trained to run, run, and run! Unlike Lee who needed agility as well as speed, Idate only trained for speed and more speed.
4. Naruto and comp's tiring
They ate before they took of after Idate, during which time Idate was running very fast. He had a BIG head start, and no, he didn't trip right after Naruto them left the tea shop.
5. Konohagure, epitome of good?
Yes. Konoha village only takes missions that will be good for most people. Why? Because their hokage isn't an evil b*stard like the Kazekage. The first and second raised the village with ideas of justice, honor, and respect. Quite the opposite of the hidden mist village where their academy exam used to be an all out slaughter fest. ie: during the chuunen exam did the konoha ninja threaten death upon all who challenged them? What about the hidden rain, who though did try to discourage fighting with the sand, had no trouble getting pissed and trying to kill them. Inf fact, during the chunnen exam, Konoha's ninja were the only ones who went in without the intent to kill, or seriously injure the other ninja teams.
I hope this helped to clear some things up.

The filler arc fits in a bit awkwardly. It is odd to see them running off on a mission as if nothing has happened, but overall not too terrible, and for once people aren't saying things like "oh, well, that was nothing, just wait until you see what's next" because noone knows what's next. I was thinking of skipping the filler arc, maybe reading the manga, but I guess I'll stick with it.

I was talking this over with Gaaralovessand yesterday, and I told him(sort of joking) what if it was a dream, as in what if sasuke was just dreaming it up, and he was still in the hospital sleeping.it would be a good setup to get back on track(didnt say the m word), but it is a possiblility but overall wrong, just because no one would agree with me on this, but like I said, I only said it as a joke

Sasuke doesn't know about Tsunade's friend.
Sasuke doesn't know that Naruto knows the boss guy.
So it would not even work.

All this talk about getting back on track... I am not sure why it is so important, since I don't read the M, but maybe, in this filler arc, if it is so important that Sasuke returns to the hospital, by the end of this arc, he'll be in a major fight and go into a coma again.

If manga people didn't call this a filler saga, im pretty fucking sure you anime watchers would just enjoy your fucking anime and watch it like its still on track and its still wicked. Some people get discouraged to watch it, just don't listen to any manga people calling this a filler arc.

I dont call this a filler saga, Im calling it regular anime(thats all it is) I didnt even start reading the M until around ep. 70 of the show(which is a long time) I necessarily dont care if they stray from it b/c Ill like it either way

So what did you say before about getting back on track?
But don't worry, im not directing my last message to certain people (maybe i am) but to manga readers only. If they would keep their mouths shut for abit, even the anime people would not start thinking its a filler arc.

I was just saying, that it would be a good setup(the whole dream thing) with following the M(since they follow it so closely) but nobody really cares, they(as far as I consider) can do what ever they want with the anime(they did it with FMA and it turned out alright).

but yeah... i liked the needles move from the chuunin exam so i'm quite happy that it came up again.
