@The Next Hokage:
Maybe its you not XP. I have yet to have issues with XP, it is actually quite robust, and as Assert has said maybe you never used XP before.
You can say shit about any other windows OS(other than XP and 2000) specially winME the mother of all fuckups!
The only major issue XP has had is with security, but what do you expect from M$?

i do infact use win xp
security shit
incompatability of sp2 with some 3rd party antivirus software
i personaly have some problems running java based aplications
DOS or should i say lack of (and yes im aware there are ways to run dos based programs its just a pain in the ass)
auto update causes more trouble than it solves
Problems when having multiple os on the same system (i admit this could be the cause of my trouble)
oh and i hate the way it looks
I admit though that despite the above it is 1 of the better OS on the market

It can be changed to look similar to 98, and if you don't like that, you can get StyleXP and get a skin you do like.

if you're having problems with antivirus and dos, then it sounds like you need to upgrade a few things anyway.
although are you actually having problems running your antivirus, or does it just not register with sp2's security thingy.....cause even if it doesnt register, doesnt mean it isnt working.
cant relate to the other things you mentioned
oh, and in response to XP having security issues, its only because its the biggest target for hackers and virus programs, since the most people use it. If the mac os was as popular as XP is, then it would be having the SAME security issues
