Omega Cosmo was my first online nick. Everybody called me Cosmos. So when I wanted a new nick I kept the Cosmo part and added a mega-cool prefix. Me being a huge FF6 fan and Terra fanboy is of course pure coincidience.

And welcome to the forums.

Lefty
Fri, 08-20-2004, 07:03 PM
My user name comes from my Kendo buddies. When I just got into armour i had a bad habbit of letting go of my shinai with my right hand while still holding it with the left after a strike; because most of the time i would bash my right elbow into the persons Men grill(which fucking hurts) because of my hight( I'm 6'6"). One day some called me Lefty and the name stuck for a long while.

I picked NarutoMaster because what one part of the anime is about is that Naruto wants to be Hokage, the best ninja out there who has "mastered" and can use his ninja techniques at the right time. I didnt want to make my name Hokage Naruto or something so I picked NarutoMaster out.

Uchiha Barles
Sat, 08-21-2004, 04:11 AM
Barles is a "dumbification" or "chodization" of my real name granted to me by a friend. Uchiha, cuz the Sharingan is my favorite bloodline limit thus far.

Masamune
Sat, 08-21-2004, 04:28 AM
The name comes up a lot in video games and anime, and is
derrived from a famous Japanese legend about a swordsmith named Masamune.
Goro Nyudo Masamune lived during the late 13th to early 14th century, and was
considered to be one of the - if not THE - greatest Japanese swordsmiths of
all time. (Do not confuse Masamune with Muramasa or Murasame, as these are
all completely different legends that have attained something of an "urban
myth" status in video games and anime.)

Stoopider
Sat, 08-21-2004, 08:12 AM
Started from my counter-strike nick, which was legendery in my cybercafe. (Long long time ago). So much so, that when ppl take over my pc, and they see my nick, they went like 'Woah, he was playing here just now'.

Stoopider just add's a nice ring compared to "Your more stupid".

Example:
"Your stoopider than him, Your more stupid than him."

Somewhat strange because the word 'Stoopider' don't exist.

Made up the name when Ciber took over my usual name on IRC about 4 years ago. I changed the password to it and instandly forgot it and came up with Wilik to replace the name I usually used, kinda stuck and have had it since.

Black Knight
Sat, 08-21-2004, 11:13 PM
my name has two sources actually.. it was originally meant to be Black Swordsman, in honor of gatts (berserk), but i watched monty python and the holy grail the same day and i got swordsman confused with knight. youll understand if youve seen the movie. hes a very memorable character.

Santah
Mon, 08-23-2004, 02:03 PM
I live in Australia for reference. Back in.. 2001 or 02 I think... In the weeks leading up to Christmas, it was reported nationally in the newspapers etc that a Principal of a Primary School (school for kids aged 6-12) had told his students that Santa Claus wasn't real. There was a fair amount of uproar, with some parents being very angry about it, and others backing up the principal etc. The Prime Minister of Australia, John Howard, while on national TV said he believed in Santa Claus. Personally I found the whole thing hillarious.

To show my support for the christmas spirit, I decided to use the name Santa for all my online gaming etc, and added a h to the end to be original. I had originally intended to go back to my normal screen name after christmas, but I had become used to being Santah and have had it ever since.

So there you go, thats why I have the name Santah i/expressions/face-icon-small-tongue.gif

DB_Hunter
Tue, 08-24-2004, 06:45 PM
I orignally started out with the name DB_Master on direct connect. DB stood for Dragonball (didn't want to say DBZ master, though I'm a fan of DBZ and not DB). Eventually I had to drop the name and err... well due to some circumstances which were not pleasant but still kinda funny at the same time I took the nick Hunter. When I cam to the Gotwoot forums I was thinking which nick to use and I thought I'd combine both of them.

KitKat
Fri, 08-27-2004, 05:09 PM
A few years ago I had to pick a nickname for a university event. A friend of mine came up with KitKat for me, because I like cats and also because a KitKat bar has 4 sections. You may wonder how the second reason relates. Well, it happens that I only have 4 fingers on my left hand (a little run-in with some farm machinery when I was 2 years old). Hence, I have been KitKat ever since.

Wicked
Tue, 08-31-2004, 06:31 PM
My mom, aunt (God rest her soul), and I love to play Mexican Train Dominos but we hate it when someone "helps" us (and subsequently get pissed if no one helps us) resulting in us insulting one another when the unwanted help occurs. My mother, the darling woman that she is, decided to brand me a Wicked Child. "You wicked, wicked child!" she would hiss at me whenever I placed a domino at the end of her train preventing her from playing another round. So I decided to use it as my online persona since I was tired of my old one (Nebulus which was intentionally spelled wrong). I'm typically known as either: wickedchild_md, Wicked Child, or Wicked.

Plus other people online have described me as a wicked person, why I'll never know.

thundrakkon
Tue, 08-31-2004, 07:06 PM
I originally played one of the first online games, Subspace, and on my team, I was always named Thunder (i.e. Blue Thunder, Silver Thunder, Macross Thunder, etc.) The name stuck with me until I played Ultima Online, in which I need a more Medieval name. So I became the Thunder Dragon, or Thundrakkon for short. It has stuck with me ever since.

or something equally stupid because im so famous in the UK CS scene. no really...

Winged Dancer
Fri, 10-29-2004, 10:06 AM
Well, my first name was "Niphredil" 'cause I'm a Tolkien fan, but for some reason everybody thought I was a guy.
So once when I was about 14 I was roleplaying at some message boards and I can't remember why my character had a bakery, when deciding for a name a friend told me to name it "The Dancer" and I liked things with wings, so it ended up being "Winged Dancer".

When I used it for the first time as a nick, it was clear that no guy would use such a well, girlie name; in other words it was clear that I was a girl.
So I decided to stick with it, and so far I've done it.

kooshi

I guess mine is either lame or weird.

It's all because of my haircut (weird enough from here, hehe). According to my friends, they say that my haircut feels like one of those koosh balls (I don't agree with them). Because of that, some came up with the nickname Kooshi. Ever since, it got stuck.

Board of Command

At my former school there's this student commitee called the "Board of Control". Once I made a joke about them literally using a board to force people to do things, thus my sig was born. Board of Control doesn't sound as good as Board of Command, and thus, my name.

Mine comes from Ferris Bueller's Day Off, mainly. I've worked in movie/music stores where most people couldn't remember my name, since it's a common name. But since I was 6, I've been told I looked like Cameron from FBDO. My dad also has a kick ass car that I'm not allowed to drive much (600+ HP '99 Cobra w/ Saleen parts, looks like a 2-seater black bullet), so the name just kind of stuck. I also have his kind of monotone voice, so it just stuck. I spell it with a "K" to piss off/confuse people. =b

Astraea
Sat, 11-06-2004, 04:19 AM
Astraea:

Title: Greek Goddess

Description: Astraea was the sister of Aphrodite, and was among the Gods, the most beautiful, Aphrodite became jealous of her sister, and deemed herself the Goddess of Love. Astraea, wise beyond her immortal years, cared not for the selfish rivalry of her sister, she deemed herself the Goddess of Justice, where all who would stand before her, would know judgement. Where her essence presides, judgement was swift, and death came upon swift wing to all those who fell before her ill judgement.

Astraea resides in the Hall of Law, above Mount Olympus, where her kingdom was among the clouds. Her father Zeus granted her this domain, for the Gods dared not trifle within her presence. Although she was known as a lesser God, her presence alone left a quake through the ages. Where justice knew only truth, and none would stray from the piercing gaze of her All Seeing Eye.

Psyke
Fri, 05-20-2005, 10:28 AM
For me the name "Psyke" was derived from the word Psyche. Doesn't really mean anything much but I just like the sound of it. Have been using it since I first got on the internet, which is close to a decade now. i/expressions/face-icon-small-happy.gif

I normally use Jin as my name for the character I created with said name. when its taken (which it usually is) I had to come up with another one, so out of the blue I just pulled Kezren. used it ever since.

Kovash
Fri, 05-20-2005, 11:36 AM
Wow, after read all those, mine sounds REALLY nerdish...

Kovash is (one of) the name of the General of my Tau army for Warhammer40k

In Tau, it means - Crusader

If Kovash is ever taken (and I rally hate it when it is) I go with - El' Kovash - El' is a rank (Kight ) and 'Crusader Knight' sounds cool (technically Knight Crusader, but I have creative perogative i/expressions/face-icon-small-tongue.gif).

Full Name - Shas'o Tash'var Ko'vash Mont'yr Or'es

:/

Death BOO Z
Fri, 05-20-2005, 03:39 PM
wow, this thread is old.. can't believe i've never posted in it...

anyway, i've started out my nickname at some RPG forum, and i was 'Wolf' for a while, just becuase about everyone i met told me that i've got that 'wolf-ish' feeling, but then i decided it was too 'normal' so i buffed it up with 'death', cuz having death in your nickname is sooo cool when you're 12.
then i've moved to a forum for the baldurs gate 2 game, so i changed the wolf part into boo (the minature giant space hamster!) and kept it on for about three years, until they've started airing DBZ in my country two years ago, and since everybody was changing thier nicks and avatar into DBZ stuff, i've wanted to show that i'm also into DBZ (even though i already watched it all on the computer) so I added the Z part into the nick.

since then, it's been pretty annoying to change nicks, so i've been keeping the Death Boo Z name, which is nice as I don't always have to write the full thing.

Astronopolis
Fri, 05-20-2005, 06:02 PM
Well one day a couple of friends and i went out to the local flea market in search of old diecast transformers and robotech and whatever else we could find. i ended up with an old valkyrie, a figure of King Zarkon (woot) and an old grendizer tape. we ended up watching the tape, over and over as it was fucking hilarious, shit like the kid named bobby had a giant 'H' on the front of his shirt, so we re-named him Hbobby (the 'h' is silent). someone noticed that the pilot of grendizers name was aries astronopolis, how greek can you get, right? as it turns out im half greek, so i assumed the role of Astronopolis the Space Greek and the rest is history

complich8
Sat, 05-21-2005, 06:38 AM
whoa .... thread resurrection!

I guess I'll tell my story. It's sorta strange though, and unexpectedly long.

Back in high school (yeesh, 10 years ago now) I wanted to get in on the whole "email" craze I had heard about. Yahoo mail had just started to get some word of mouth going, and I was like "I need a name". I had recently read some Forgotten Realms novels, several of which made mention of liches. One in particular mentioned archliches -- and presented them as particularly rare, uncommonly powerful, and not evil-aligned (ahh, good-old D&D). I was generally gravitated toward chaotic good, and liked the thought of having lots of power to do good things with (and the presented ability to end your existence as a lich in a sort of "blaze of glory" to do something normally beyond your power to do). So I picked archlich for my online identity.

Well, that was all well and good, but when I joined the anime community round about spring 2001 (back in the dalnet and etg heydays), I started using irc. And on etg and efnet and a few others I could be archlich, but on dalnet someone else had registered the nick (and not used it in like a year, but dalnet nickserv wasn't expiring nicks back then). I had recently taken up meditation and was in a yoga class that I was somewhat enjoying, and had recently changed majors to computer science, so I stuck them together and got "ComputerizedYoga" (which became my slashdot name (archlich was taken there too), and also the name I used on AIM when I wanted to keep a restricted buddy list (so certain bothersome people wouldn't annoy me). So I thought "well, it'll work" and tried it out for IRC.

But ALAS! IT WAS NOT MEANT TO BE! Turns out ComputerizedYoga is particularly long. And Dalnet supported 12 character nicks, and efnet (another regular hangout) supported 10. So I became "Computerized" which I decided was lame. And then I shortened it to "CompYoga" which I decided I didn't like either. Whatever was I going to do?

Well, then I thought "ComputerizedYoga ... archlich" ... "Comp[uterizedYoga .... arch]lich" ... "Complich". And I didn't like it ... because I knew that people would mispronounce and misread it as "complick" and think I was some 16 year old cyberslut.

Just then, a random bit of inspiration hit. And by random bit, I mean random music track in winamp, which reminded me of the group Altern8 (a rave group from the 90's that I didn't hear about until a few months before all of this, when I was first getting into rave/dance music). And I was like "altern8. hmm .... complich8, that's an idea".

It stuck. Now I'm complich8. Around mid-2002, I decided to re-center on the complich8 name as a unique online identity. Now, I'm the singular central point behind any and all searches for "complich8", and interestingly still the number one hit for the search "archlich" on google. None of this "Oh, it's a character I like, so I stuck a number on it and used it as a nick".

Alhuin
Sat, 05-21-2005, 08:08 PM
To tell the truth... I don't know what my username means or where it comes from. I was given this name several years ago to use on "Everquest" (because I'm not good at making up names). I eventually dropped "Everquest" and so therefore dropped the name for awhile. It was only when I registered on my very first forum that I remembered it. I thought (what could I use as a user name?" I eventually decided to revive "Alhuin"; and that's the way it has been ever since. On the WWW, I am officially known as Alhuin. Only select individuals discover my true-self.

Just made up a random name to play first-person shooters. Used Roko, and I've been usin it ever since on forums and such. I woulda used roko in my email address, but for the fact that it was already taken, so I decided to add a "bo". But alas, I no longer use "roko" except on forums and such, since I have found another username for games, which is "Born to Die", which I guess I shall explain also. So I was playin as Roko on Wolfenstein: Enemy Territory one day, and it just him me, since I kept dying and respawning. This soldier is being respawned/born just to die again, so why not use "Born to Die"? there's my story, although i have absolutely no idea why i explained my gaming username...

XanBcoo is "mock ghetto" for my real nickname: Xan (from Alexander)
I wanted something narcissistic, like, "Xan is God" or "Xan is cool", and because me and my friends used to make fun of ghetto-slang a lot, I chose Xan be coo' and shortened it to:
XanBcoo' <-- when I joined GotWoot I forgot to capitalize the X and B and dropped the apostrophe.

EDIT: And have since had the X and B capitalized. But still no apostrophe.

AngelEyez

Well I go by two nicks; AngelEyez and my gaming name Syrinx.

AngelEyez -- I've had ever since high school. I took the name from after seeing a film called Angel Eyes with Jennifer Lopez in. Its not that I like the film, I just thought the name was nice. Plus, Angel is a nickname for my real life name.

Syrinx -- I got that from reading Peter Hamilton's: The Reality Dysfunction. Good book. Would recommend it to anyone.

Masamune because FF7 was the first video game that totally owned my life and I thought Sephiroth was one bad motherfucker of a character. And then it appeared in the next video game to rule my life, Chrono Trigger, which I got from a friend and had me revert back to the old SNES.

the EHS is obviously my high school. Edgemont High School.

The two first got put together way back in the day when that little online game called ARC was so popular. (the game with the red, blue, green and yellow orb & squarish tanks that shoot lasers and you can pick up and then lob stuff like grenades and shoot multi-shots. So ghetto, so much fun) We had kids from our school join the same team and so we all put EHS on the end of our names.

Masamune, also known as Goro Nyudo, is widely recognized as Japan's greatest swordsmith. No exact dates are known for Masamune's life, but it is generally agreed that he made most of his swords in the early-to-mid 1300's. He created swords, known as katana in Japanese, in the Soshu tradition. Masamune's swords have a reputation for superior beauty and quality, remarkable in a period where the steel necessary for swords was often impure. He is considered to have brought the art of 'nie' (martensitic crystals embedded in pearlite matrix, thought to resemble stars in the night sky) to its perfection.

Swords created by Masamune often are referred to with the smith's name (much the same way that other pieces of artwork are), often with a name for the individual sword as well. The Honjo Masamune, a symbol of the Tokugawa shogunate and passed down from one shogun to another, is perhaps the best known Masamune sword.

The swords of Masamune are often contrasted with those of Muramasa, another Japanese swordsmith. Muramasa has alternatively been described (incorrectly) as a full contemporary of Masamune, or as Masamune's student. Since Muramasa dated his work, it is known he worked right around 1500AD, and as such he lived too late to have met Masamune. Often, Muramasa's blades are described as bloodthirsty or evil while Masamune's are considered the mark of an internally peaceful and calm warrior. The most famous legend of the difference between the weapons of the two swordmakers is based on what happens when one of each sword is placed in a slow stream. Muramasa's sword was able to cut a leaf cleanly in half, while another leaf abruptly changed course and slid by Masamune's sword without touching it.

Yeah for some reason I've always been talented at 2D fighting, inputting combinations and thinking quickly in those games. Also, having played 'em since I was 7 probably helps too (bought Street Fighter 2 at that age and I beat people which were 4-5 years older). Fun stuff.

Kraco
Sat, 04-22-2006, 03:16 AM
Mine has a very boring history.

Great many years ago, when Amiga was still a cool, competitive computer, it had a demo scene (or craze) with everybody making multimedia presentations that had the idea of looking and sounding great and fitting on 3.5" floppy disks. Me and my brother tried that stuff very briefly, and in order to do things like that at all, you obviously needed some cool nick name...

It was years later that I learned there was some company with the same name manufacturing car parts or something... It looks like the company invented the name long before me, but obviously I had had no idea of that. It just proves every sensible short word is already in use somewhere. Such a big world.

RedX1z
Sat, 04-22-2006, 07:01 AM
ultxdarkredx1 is short for ultimatedarkredx1, or to make it simple it can just be redx1, the name first started a 5-6 years back when i seemed to have played nothing, but rockman games in middle school, then i just so happened to like the color red more than anything, then the whole thing about rockman being evil which i substituted for dark, so at first it was just darkredx, then as the times passed, i'd play x4 for the playstation 1 again and when i saw that ultimate armor again, i was like "sounds cool, so let's just stick it in there." hence, ultimatedarkredx1(i forget why i put the 1 there, but since i'm used to it, why not, yeah?). as the years passed by, it started getting annoying to type that shit up for msn or aim, so i made it shorter to ultxdarkredx1, actually thinking about just making it redx1 now. this is the story behind my name.

However, my friends always called be evil and cynical because I would come up with a bunch of tricks and stuff to help us win. I was also called evil and such because, well, I killed everything. So, then it became DarkMasterChief. As time passed I was too lazy to type Chief and people only called me Dark or Dark Master so I took it out. The "x" come from... I don't know actually...

dragonrage
Sat, 04-22-2006, 01:30 PM
well, the way dragonrage came into being. Most of my gaming profiles i have are named "rage" because that is what they called me. Since i was a kid my friends thought i was kind and helpful, but piss me off and more than likely you are gonna get hurt (its hard to piss me off). So the name "rage" stuck. Then came "DrAgE", i use to play socom1,2, alot and i joined a clan called "g-unit" (one of the best clans there was) but unfortunately one of the clan leaders was already name "rage", and after much debate it was decide that i had to change my name since he refused too (that bastard). So "DrAgE" was bore, it was suppose to mean demented, deranged and stuff like that, but i found out that it means "medical candy".

"dragonrage" is one of my alias, it was formed from "rage" and "dragon". I have always like dragons they are my favorite mythical creatures, and when i found out more about them as life went along, the great my appreaciation for them grew. Dragon are a symbol of power, strength, wisdom, restrain and and soundness in mind etc. so i put "dragon" and "rage" together and i got "dragonrage".

Also it was cool to mess with my team mate and online users. I use to really get them going, and with a huge clan there was always someone new to mess with. Not to mention you could mess with other clans, but after high school, my personal life became non existant so i left all that behind me. Now i use it for this forum.

Wow. How many times has this thread been revived?

As was discovered in the picture thread I actually have long hair. A lot of people (myself included) have joked that I would wither away and die without my hair. This remimded me of the biblical story of Samson (sometimes spelled Sampson) whose strength came from his long hair.

I'm actually not religious at all, but I enjoyed the idea of long hair giving someone power. Thus the name SamsonLongHair. I don't like to hit the shift key when typing in my name so I took out the capital letters.

Contraire to popular opinion, Deadfire does mean something and no, I just didn’t put two words together and call it a day .

A “Deadfire” is a military word meaning the following:

Deadfiring is firing multiple missiles or other projectiles without having a lock on or aiming. If firing in Deadfire mode, you are usually aiming in the general area of the target and firing. Used in high stress situations, as well as a scare tactic.

So in other words you aim to basically to it and everything around it, with massive firepower.

I’ve used this nick for as long as I’ve been on the Internet, due to the fact most sites never have it taken already. Any other names I have are just various versions of it. I like as it fits my kind of learning process, I want to learn about everything about something, even when I really only need to know about one thing

Ho... Then this thread is obviously meant just for you: You get to learn everything about the usernames, not just the (necessary) word itself...

Well I'll be honest there is really no real meaning behind my username aside from the fact that... well I hate that pig bastard from Naruto.

Actually I usually use the username "mjkthirdeye" for everything that I signup for and when I joined here I was watching Naruto at the time and tonton came on screen doing his little sfx. I was pretty bored of using the same username, so that got me thinking, and ultimately I decided on this name.

Hadn't it been for Tonton, I'd probably be mjkthirdeye around here.
