Trouble watching .avi files

I've downloaded a few videos in .avi format from different websites, however when I open them using different media players it's always the same thing, I can hear the audio but I can't see the video. Is there any way to fix this problem?

Yes this means that you do not have the correct codecs installed. I suggest installing Xvid: http://www.roeder.goe.net/cgi-bin/fetch?file=XviD-1.0.1-05062004.exe
