The Sannins refer to the team trained under the 3rd Hokage (but back then he wasn't a hokage yet). They are Jiraiya, Tsunade, and Orochimaru. And they are all suppose to be 50 years old.

They are Legendary because they all are very very very powerful. i guess not every memeber of a team is going to be strong (e.g. sakura is a weakest in team 7). each sannin is near impossible to defeat cuz that's just how powerful they are.

Wasn't he Hokage when he was training them? How could he not have been? It showed Sarutobi becoming Hokage at a very young age in a flashback during the Konoha invasion.

They are just 3 legendary people, known for their strenght. Although they aren't impossible to defeat, a few characters release could take them on at the moment.

slightly wrong Coolman, the legendary 3 were known for their great strength and unbeatableness (that a word?) in their prime (20s to 30s)

He was a Hokage? Have to watch back the old clips.

I would think that he was a Jounnin at that time though. Was he wearing his dumb hat?

sarotobie (sp?) was named to be the 3rd at a very young age, but im not sure at what age he was when he started really performing Hokage duties, so he was Hokage when he trained the Sannin.

i don't think hokages train teams. jounins train teams. isn't that the rule??

hokages can train teams if they want. they are hokage and have the power.

well did the 1st and 2nd die before the 3rd trained the sannins? if so then he was performing hokage duties by that time

the people are basically called Legendary Sannins b/c they were trained by the third, and since San=3 and Nin=ninja; you can basically that the Legendary Sannins are in fact the 3rds ninjas

I think Sannin deals with that were three of them, so three ninja's. It could be taken either way.

i agree w/ lefty that the "sannin" refers to them as THE three ninjas. not just because they trained under 3rd. but it's open for debate.
