I also Prefer Trillian becuse i have Yahoo,ICQ,AIM, and MSN. So with one App I can use all of the IM services. Also it has an IRC client.

msn is enough for me since every god damn scandinavian person uses it and no other im service.

for me its aim...but thats because most of my mates use aim anyway as that was the first one we ever used...

MSN tells me when I have e-mail without any logging in bollocks so thats pretty much all I use it for i/expressions/face-icon-small-tongue.gif.

Pretty much just pick whichever one your friends are already using, because there's no way they're all going to bother switching. That trillian thing sounds interesting. I'm currently using dead aim with my AIM.

yeah.....the one the most people use will be the best messenger

i used to be a big icq fan (16091449) i/expressions/face-icon-small-wink.gif
but then more and more people switched to aim, so yeah.......

i dont use aim 5.0 or higher.....cause it gimps up my resources, so i just use an older version w/ aim+ to disable lame banners and keep a history log

trillian's a great idea......but i'd only consider it if there was actually another messenger besides aim that had alot of people on it

I think your choice of im networks depends exclusively on who you want to talk to and what they use.

I used to use icq heavily, when all my friends did. Now my friends either use aim, or just email or call, so ICQ took a pretty long hiatus. But now people at my job use icq, so I had to dust off the old number and find a client for it.

For aim, I use a slightly older aim client with a slightly older deadaim wrapper, and the ad server pointed at my local webserver (just to make things particularly quick loading). ICQ I use the open source client Miranda IM. I don't use MSN or yahoo, because I don't like the fact that MSN refuses to listen to what you tell it to do, and yahoo im is just ghey.

A lot of my friends who are on multiple services use trillian. In linux I used to use gaim, but now I'm usually too busy when I'm in a linux desktop to worry about im. on my mac laptop, I use ichat and say again "screw icq" because usually on my laptop means at work, where it's easier for the people who talk to me to just walk the 20 feet to talk to me than to type at me and have me ignore them.

But yeah, it all depends pretty much on what your friends use, ya know?

I still use ICQ because there are still some neandherthals who haven't discovered MSN.
