I was mighty surprised (happily) when i just passed through animesuki and found the new Hikaru No Go... I downloaded it, and have been watching it (because of this i will be very tired when i get tp school in the morning, which i can endure).

But let's not talk about that, what i want to know is if there is going to be more Hikaru or if it was just this one special. To me, this "special" seemed more like two eps picking up where the series ended (although acording to me with messed up animation). It also seemed as though this series could be picked up from that Special which i of course hope for... But since i know nothing about it, i thought i'd ask around http://www.gotwoot.net/forum/html/emoticons/biggrin.gif

It's an anime based on the "Go" world (Go is a strategy game played on a wooden board, kinda like chess). It starts with a boy whom encounters a ghost from the past that's supposedly a great Go player and introduces him to the game. Thus we watch him grow into a talented player.
Beside the ghost, this anime has a really realistic theme. There's no fighting whatsoever, but it has a lot of suspense to make up for it; more drama based in other words.
What's cool is you watch the main character grow older and mature as the series goes on, and he never wears the same clothes over and over like most animes.
I've watched the anime, but prefer the manga. It's got much better artwork and humor.
I recommend either, it's a good watch.

They say you either love it or hate it... Hikaru No Go is as about a boy named Hikaru who one days is visited by a strange ghost. This ghosts name is "Sai", and all Sai wants to do is play "Go" to master the "Kami no itte" = Divine Move/God's move. However, Hikaru himself at first doesn't even like the game but decides to let Sai play a little bit now and then.

He lets Sai play against a boy named Akira, one who is able to become a pro because he is the son of Touya Meijin who is the best player in Japan. Sai wins and Akira feels a bit depressed (obsesivly after a while wanting nothing else but to win against Sai, although he doesn't know that it is Sai that is playing and not Hikaru). Hikaru becomes intrested in the game Go and decides that he want to learn how to play so the he one day can surpass Akira with his own strenght, not using Sai.

I love hng and I really hate to see the manga end with only 23 volumes.
But come to think of it, what else can the author write?? He can't possibly make hikaru (or anyone else) master the divine move, can he??
All the games we see in the anime are based on real games. I don't think the author can fake one out if there is no divine move in reality.

If there was a second season coming up, i'd like it to be built up like Hikaru No Go as it has been so far...

Hey, do you mean to tell me that every game played in Hikaru No Go is a real game with like real pro's way of laying the stones? It's not just something they thought up with lots of studying the game? That sounds awsome, and it makes it so much more real to watch as well.

The manga has ended. The special here starts a new arc of the manga... but doesn't cover all of that arc...

Lots of people are speculating, but I think the only people right now who could answer you are the producers themselves...

If you're really insanely hooked on it, you can find manga scans around. The manga extends I think around 80 chapters past the end of the anime, but I could be wrong there, having not read it.

Torrents should be linked on animesuki's series page for it ('http://www.animesuki.com/series.php/1.html'). You could also hit that ftp I spose http://www.gotwoot.net/forum/html/emoticons/wink.gif.

Well that Special actually doesn't really take place immediatly after the series. Instead there were several skipped chapters which were basically tossed together in the last episodes ending. I really hope they don't do what they did with Hunter X Hunter and release it in OVA's 8 episodes at a time http://www.gotwoot.net/forum/html/emoticons/tongue.gif

I really hope they realize that the people wants to see more of Hikaru and make a second season of the series, which should also be like 75 eps or something like that... Something to enjoy for a long long long time http://www.gotwoot.net/forum/html/emoticons/biggrin.gif

Edit: By the way, does anyone here know where i can find the manga? The last chapters that is, since i've watched the anime. That FTP isn't working really well for me i can tell ya.

the whole "ghost super player" thing reminds me of yu gi oh.

I'm guessing the anime is targeted towards young adults? since someone said there wasn't any violence or action and was mostly drama/talking. If that's true, then i'll check it out. I'm a little tired of these wonder boy animes though (which is why I love Azumanga so much).

http://www.gotwoot.net/forum/html/emoticons/laugh.gif um Shinji Hikari, which release did you download? the YoumaOtakus or AnimeJunkies one?

I've been trying to download the YO one for almost a week (since Jan 24) and now I'm stuck in 31%... Download rate: 0, upload still uploading

The AnimeJunkies one too, too slow...

I dont think its my bittorrent problem because I downloaded other torrents and the speed are great up to 70-80kb/sec

Would anyone mind to hook me up this special 2004 eps?(upload it to my ftp) http://www.gotwoot.net/forum/html/emoticons/biggrin.gif

started reading the manga and am hooked on it currently at chapter 131 i'm gonna finish today or tomorrow too bad it's only 189 chapters afterwards i'm gonna download the anime. this is definately a must see/read if you have even the slightest interest in go (wanted to try it after learning that shikamaru loved to play go and wondered what kind of game it is, now i see the strategy behind this game and how it helps you device battle plans)

I think they would've made the special longer and actually give it some form of closure if they weren't to make more HnG later.

Has anyone else seen this anime? I recently started watching it, as I had managed to catch up to the current point in the other animes that I have been watching (Naruto, FMA, One Piece, HxH, ect.), and I must say that although the concept of an anime based on someone playing the game Go sounds dull, it seems interesting to me (wow, what a run-on sentence...). I've gotten up to episode 45 and am now downloading the rest of the series, and it has now become one of my favorites. Checking some of the other message boards, some said that the series is now continuing in Japan past episode 75 and the New Years special, does anyone know anything about this? Also, to continue my ramblings, this anime has gotten me interested in possible picking up the game of Go and trying to learn some of the basics, as it seems much more complex than Chess, which I played for a while. Does anyone know of any good websites to go to, or books to read, even, that might explain the concepts of Go, to a beginner?

Well... I guess that ends my ramblings... if you can understand anything of what I just said, incoherent as it may be, I would appreciate answers to my questions, and if you've seen the series, your thoughts on it.

i read the manga and watched the anime. I loved both of them. A good thing about this is there is no "hero" and "antihero" only people competing. They ended the anime very interestingly... It started off hikaru vs touya and it ends with hikaru vs touya. but in the manga the ending was really poor... even though they said there was going to be a summer manga special back in 2003... lol

I watched it but for the first 10-15 episodes I had to make myself keep watching because I would get irritated how they acted like such babies with all the crying over a board game. Once I got past that though I really enjoyed the series and watched it all in a 3 day span or so.

I had posted this in the Anime Download section of the forum, but here's a repost:

ftp://ftp.hikago.flirble.org

This FTP offers all the episodes, the music, and even all the episodes in various different languages. It also features the 2004 special release which came out this year. The download speeds are also very very fast, so you won't be disappointed. If you want to grab them at good speeds though, i would recommend using an FTP Program, rather than Internet Explorer. Although Internet Explorer will still do the job ^_^

(Note: If you use Internet Explorer, because it will be a transition from the usual HTTP to FTP, there will be a slight delay before the FTP will load up in IE. In that delay, it will seem like everything has crashed, but just way 10 to 15 seconds and everything will work again with no problems. The faster your connection, the faster it will recover.)

This is an FTP dedicated to Hikari No Go to say the last ^_^

Edit:
If you get a login prompt. Ignore it, and just click login anyway without filling anything in. You will still gain access perfectly fine.

Also note, that after each episode they teach you how to play Go anyway, so if you follow the series, by the end you should know a lot on how to play it anyway.

Edit:
btw, when i posted it in the download section, hundreds of people flocked to the FTP. The max amount of ppl allowed at the same time on the FTP is only 100 people, so if you can't connect it's because it's busy and you should try again later. An FTP program would be better as you would be able to see if it's full or a problem.

Also note, that note one person out of those hundreds of lurkers said thankyou to me. It makes me wonder why i bother T_T

For general Go websites I'd reccomend this one (http://gobase.org/).

If you want to play Go online with other people for free I'd reccomend Panda Net (http://www.pandanet.co.jp/English/content.html).

This post inspired me to go back to the site, but I forgot my old password.... I have a new account now, as Maea. If you want to play let me know. I totally suck though, my younger brother beats me all the time and I can't beat the AI's on the site. That's very sad, because go is more freeform than chess and very difficult to build a good program for.

I just spent these last 3 or 4 days watching this series (one that I had burned like 7 months ago)... so I just decided to start watching this series... and I can't help but say what a great great series this was....

Edit:

Yeah sorry about that... I figured that by now everyone would have watched it but I should have marked the spoilers anyway....

Spoilers:

Too sad we don't listen to what Sai has to say any longer... I hope he is able to re-appear in the future... even if it means playing vs Hikaru as a one shot deal...

Can't wait for the next special if any.... They should do an OVA just like Hunter x Hunter... or simply continue doing specials like the 2004 one... it was very good... That last match was incredible....

Anyways... what was that Special Edition Episode (variant of 64)... has anyone seen it and tell me how it differs from the actual 64?

Third. Kariudo Kid, would you like to teach me how to play? I have it on my computer, but I don't use it because I don't want to play a serious match before really learning how to play for real... Oh, and if you can, please send me a PM and I'll start a new account at kiseido... Thanks either way.

I don't really know anything about it, but I did a search on amazon.com for it and found them being sold both separately and in one big boxset. The boxset however was outsold, don't know if you can find it at some other store.
