I would like to know how I could convert video files from one format to another.

Examples - Mov to Avi, Rm to Avi, Ogm to Avi, vice versa, etc.

Do I need a special program to do this sorta thing.

I have acess to video software (Adobe Premiere and After Effects) but they don't work with all media types, so I'd like to be able to convert OGM and RM (etc) video files over to AVI or at least MPEG so that I can work with them.

Any help would be greatly appreciated.

I'm unsure about what you mean by 'so that I can work with them', but just in case...

*deep breath*

I convert my files, but only if I want to put them on DVD. Personally I hate OGMs...I'm happy just to have japanese voices with english subs...I d/led the whole X TV series and to put them on DVD, it turned out they were this stupid format, and their default setting was fucking awful American actors so in order to get them in japanese with subs I had to use a huge list of software to get the ogg audio, change it to wav, then mp2, get the subs from it, convert them from srt to ssa, then start a frameserver to mix the chosen audio with the converted subs, while 3 times out of 4 attempts my computer would restart cos it can't handle the process some of the time. This is the only method I have used as I am pretty new to ogm files (I'm having trouble getting subtitles on the screen on the anime I'm watching...personally I think dubbed versions of anime include acting I myself could better - and thats saying something!) and I was happy to commit X TV to DVD at the time.

Anyway I used this guide to get it on DVD (the guide is made for SVCD but it works exactly the same to make an mpg suitable for a DVD (although the mpg will be of a larger size...) http://www.videohelp.com/forum/viewtopic.php?t=170944&highlight=ogg

To change a Mov to Avi is simple...use a piece of software called 'RAD video tools' http://www.radgametools.com/smkmain.htm

Rm to Avi...I have no idea...I don't have any Rm files...sorry, but maybe http://www.videohelp.com/ could be of help?

Thanks for the help. I'm trying to do some amv related projects but I couldn't use ogm files in Adobe Premiere so I was just looking for a way to convert the video file over to something suitable. I'm glad I don't need the audio, that looks like a whole lot of work.
