View Full Version : What time do you sleep?

I have been sleeping late for quite some time and I know I'm not the only one here. On average I go to bed by 2;00, I'm going to have to stop this habit cause school is coming up.
So how late are you up?

Heh, I'm an idiot so I stay up till whatever time I feel like, unless I have school work of some kind or another to do, in which case I usually go to bed when I'm done. Like now, studying for finals tomorrow. I'll be in bed at around three. When I don't have anything to do, I'll sleep between 12 am and 7 am depending on what I'm doing (chilling, playing online games, moping, etc.)

Almost exactly what you said applies to me...I'm studying for a Uni exam for Monday and in all my exams so far I've been getting to sleep at like 3am-5am (then getting up at 7am) - though to be fair half the time that is at least partly due to a huge revision session beginning the night before i/expressions/rolleye.gif. Generally though since its the holidays I go to bed when I feel ready to, last night was 3:30am, the night before I think was around 7-8am...generally though its between 1am-8am.

Quite good to see there are more people with weird sleeping times i/expressions/face-icon-small-tongue.gif, I've got a mate who is even worse, his bedtimes can vary at any point during a 24 hour day depending on whether he has work/uni or anything else planned for a day...

Nolah, I stay up so late because I sleep in the afternoons when it's most hot. If I do get to sleep in the afternoon. Then at night after 12, it's time to do homework!

On school days, I go to bed by 10:00. On weekends, it depends. If i'm just around the house, I go to bed at 10 or 11. If me and my friends are playing poker, we play till 1. Or if we go to the movies, by 11.

nah man it wasnt no catholic school lol. if you skipped a lot theyd bring you to court and if you kept skipping then they would put you on probation or lock you up. but if you were 16 or over then they would just drop you. im assuming your in hs btw...

No thats not how it works, personally i quit 10th grade this year for just this year and had to deal with truancy, the thing is you can take a leave of absence and stuff like that, but even if you did it illegally your parents are held responsible not you, and yea if your over 16 and have passed 10th grade then they just drop you

haha nah man it wasnt like people actually got arrested or any shit like that, kids only got arrested for drugs etc. like if you kept skipping school with no excuse then it would go
1. court with parent
2. probation
3. juvenile hall
then you couldent go back to that school for the rest of the year, you can go to an alternative school for the rest of the school year, then you can come back.

I have. Over here a woman got convicted and sent to jail because her daughter was almost constantly truant. It happened about a year ago I think, but she got taken to court again recently because the situation hadn't improved and her daughter was still skiving. She was the first parent ever to be convicted of such an offense.

unless the mom had control over her kid skipping classes, then i'd have to say that is pretty lame to send the parent to jail for that

I think the argument was that a parent should be responsible for a child under 16, and that the mother wasn't doing enough to get the child to go to school. It did cause controversy at the time, as people put the argument forward that it was the child (I think the kid was about 14/15) who was responsible for her cutting school and not her mother, but others said that parents should be responsible for their children until they are at adult age and leave school (over here that is 16).

Seemed as if it worked though...

interesting.....but to put the parent in jail as a way to scare the children still doesnt seem fair though to the parent

its basically like if you cant handle your kid then you need to let the state handle it, and if you dont do anything to stop your kid from skipping then its your fault, thats why parents can get locked up too.

easiest course of action for parents of rebellious children to take is just to send them to boot camp.

I really see no reason for parents being locked up for wat the kid is doing. especially at their age... I started cutting class at around well past 5 months or so (im 16 rite now). I got a choice of wat i wanna do and wat i dont wanna do. screw the government. they wanna arrest the parents? PLEASE go choke on a pretzle bush =)

nah cuz i was talkin about the setup in mass. all you see in schools is social workers left and right, if parents cant handle their kids they put them on probation and if they keep skipping they get locked up. the only time parents get locked up is when they dont do nothin about it. its kinda a bad setup though, i swear they like lockin up kids. kids go there and come out more messed up and dont even bother going back to school.

Yeah the situation occured in England.

We don't have boot camp (as far as I know) so I don't think that'd be an option. I don't really know much about what boot camp is, but isn't it basically getting a load of kids together and putting them through military-esque exercises? That'd suck! Though I guess it could sort out troublemakers...whether it'd work I don't really know...

Merely cutting school isn't enough to get parents prosecuted, these girls spent practically no time in school, wasting taxpayers money (which is desperately needed for the NHS, and our 'worst in Europe' public transport systems) while they throw any prospects they may have away just cos they didn't want to learn. There is a difference between "rebellion" or simply cutting class and hardly ever turning up to school...to miss as much school as these girls did is pretty pathetic but what surprised me is that their mother being sent to prison seemed to give them a kick up the arse and they actually started attending...so they must at least have SOME respect for their mother...

I think its important to show kids how important it is to turn up to school, but I'm not convinced that threatening parents with jail is the best way, as many such kids just wouldn't care and would keep reoffending...

Its hard for me to think what should be done, short of escorting them to school and not letting them out of your sight (which is obviously impossible) I have no idea what the solution is, I read today our government spent £800m on trying to tackle truancy last year and it literally did fuck all.

Incidentally, JusDaMan...so you wouldn't be able to have a life AND go to school at the same time? Do you sleep all afternoon and night as well? Or does school in America end at like 10:30 at night? i/expressions/face-icon-small-confused.gif Ah well, your choice i/expressions/face-icon-small-smile.gif

Don't worry about the length (not really long by my standards i/expressions/face-icon-small-tongue.gif, I'm a pretty fast typer), only the last line applied to you (the bit you read).

I'm not slagging you for skiving (there aren't many people who didn't, and I used to do it if I wanted to get out of handing in homework or if I was feeling lazy etc), I just thought what you said sounded slightly strange.

I go to bed between 11 -12, cause I have to be at school at 7:00 am, and I have an extra after school period.

On the subject of skipping class - my school has really strict tardy/truancy policy too. if you have 10 or more excused and unexcused absences, you lose credit in that class, unless you testify in front of the school board. also, if you have more than 5 tardies, you get a detention , and your parents get called. My scholl isn't a private school either - it's just a regular public school. Oh, I'm in Washington (state, not D.C.).
