Now And Then is about pure misery to put it bluntly.

A kid who lives a carefree life meets a girl. And before he knows it this girl is attacked by people who comes out of nowhere. He tries to save the girl but is captured along with her, he is thrown into prison and the girl is taken off to some place. He promises that he'll save her...

What he sees along the way is the story itself, but going into that is going to far and spoiling alot... What i can say is that there are children who are soldiers and that despair is all around.

2: Pet Shop Of Horrors OVA - shame there was only four parts to the OVA but I just got the first few volumes of the manga and thats well good so far as well
3: Hellsing - kinda sucked that it was only 13 episodes, but I guess it did kinda trail off a little towards the end...hopefully the manga is cool as well
4: X TV - only seen 10 eps so far but its well amazing and the music is ace as well...this would probably have been 2nd if I wasn't less than 1/2 way through the series

It is about a strange pet shop in Chinatown (in America) which deals in exotic and extremely rare (ie often fictional/mythological) animals. When the seller sells an animal, the buyer has to follow certain rules set by the guy who sells the animal, if the rules are broken then the seller won't accept the consequences of anything that might happen...

I think you can get it on boxtorrents, its pretty dark and original (at least original compared to what I've seen)...I've read the first 2 books of the manga and thats well good as well. Can get a bit philosophical at times (but not too much to put off anyone who isn't interested in that kinda stuff).

1. Haibane Renmei: Solid drama, very nice twist at the end, excellent art.
2. Fruits Basket: Yeah! Shoujo!
3. Revolutionary Girl Utena: You would think it's shoujo, but it's way too dark and NC-17. It's by
some of the same people that did Sailor Moon, and my theory is that after Sailor Moon
these people hated all high school students and wanted to make them suffer horribly, hence Utena.
4. Kaikan Phrase: just because
5. Kare Kano (His and Her Circumstances): mentioned 1x but deserves to be mentioned again
