I just rented on of Tokyopop's DVD's for first stage to find out about the "enhanced video" they were advertising. The CG is a lot crisper, but it seems to stick out more like a sore thumb now then before. The American voice actors are also horrible. They changed the names for most of the characters:

Takumi -- Tak
Itsuki -- Iggy
Iketani -- Cole

Why change it? I liked there names before, I've got no interest in them once they are this bland. The final alteration was the music. I happen to like 90's Japanese techno. Now its some sort of low-grade hip-hop.

Yeh, i saw sum of the American versions playing in one of the gaming stores and thought it was pretty ruined. Pretty sad how they gayd up a good series really

Most likely they are trying to modify it to make it more acceptable to the general audience in the US. Unfortunetly, its not the general audience, but those that are already fans of anime that will probably invest the most of the money and time in it. They should be thinking more about what we want and less about the people that have no desire to watch it.

That is true, the first dvd came out on March 9th online and from what i have heard (sources) they are only doing 1 episode a month and in that case it could be a 30-45min episode due to the time they are doing it in. I had a synopsis of the whole series if you guys would like to see...If i can find it on my hd again!

I think they probably mean special since it is only on 1ce a month and its longer then a normal 30 min episode. I have heard its 12 episodes will span 1 year to play the whole season

I think TP holds the license up to Stage 3 the movie. I dont want their filthy hands grabbing this anime coz they'll just butcher and "americanize" the series. I think Battle Stage is also not licensed by TP coz i think its still listed in Animesuki's site

I don't always enjoy their subbing, but they do alot of shows that no one else seems to touch. Condor Hero, Rumic Theatre, and now Initial D Fouth Stage. I respect them more for their willingness to provide for my needs than their quality of subbing.

It's actually AC3 encoded like the name says. If you have the AC3 codec installed you can bust out something like the core media player and listen to the episode in full 5.1 sound instead of just stock stereo or surround emulation by the sound card. It's good stuff, I'll probably re-download the whole thing in AC3 if they keep coming out with it. Of course we have to wait on Japan to put it on DVD first ^^:

If you don't have the core media player and the AC3 codec then you probably wont notice the difference at all though.

my audio from the dvd version of initial d (ac3) is somewhat hard to hear. I thought it was my speakers but when i played the non dvd version the sound was loud and clear. How do i improve the sound on the dvd version?

i think there are some controls on the ac3 filter that turns up the volume or someting like that

Yeah if you're in the core media player you can right click and go to Filter Properties then the AC3Filter

From there you have your output setup. Generally I just use Dolby ProLogic II and 16bit PCM since my card doesn't support 24bit in 5.1 -_-; still sounds good though.

You can up the volume and gain while you're in there. Actually you can do that and tweak quite a few other options as well via the tabs. Luckily most sections have a default tab to reset things if something goes wrong. When experimenting with your speaker setup and PCM I advise to keep the volume down since it can get a lot of white noise which may damage the speakers..

hmm... which gutter technique are u talking about? the 1 that passes the hole completely to gain the inner lane? or simply the one he started usin at akina?

at ep 6, watch closely to the part where takumi closes his lights then rides next to tomo
then, once he turns his lights on and begins to turn into the corner - theres a gutter where takumi rides into, somewhat like the gutter at akina

youll see it, itll make the drop in sound if you listen carefully
its only a couple seconds long at around 18:20 of that episode
