i think its when you use your idle computer power to help the SETI guys look for aliens and things. It hooks up computers together and uses their power to add to theirs.

Its just to process info from seti in hopes of someday finding alien life out there i/expressions/face-icon-small-smile.gif

I've done it before, I was a bit sceptical at first, but looking at their sponsors gave me some confidence... I mean, the page is fairly well known, and also on the berkeley website, so it would be hard to lie about their sponsors without getting a lawsuit thrown at them.

It's just using up your unused CPU cycles. What're you losing? Personally, I prefer the folding@home group, which uses those cycles to help cure diseases. Find out more here (http://www.stanford.edu/group/pandegroup/folding/).

yeh, various groups have programs that do this, either one is a good choice to give something back

Hrm... I'll see. Probably not though, we had it installed once and we decided to remove it for other things.

Oh it's one of these. It's where you use your computer to complete process cycles to help decrypt information or calculate information regarding a specified subject.

It's the kind of calculations that you need a supercomputer for, but a lot of people can't afford. Thus they send chunks to lots of people willing to participate, and who use their idle computer to complete processing cycles in order to help complete the overall calculation.

Even companies take part in these kind of events. Sony, HP, Sun Microsystems... it's quite interesting. But i'm not willing to waste my computer power on that seeing as my computer is constantly in use anyway. When i'm not here my brother uses it, and when i am here i'm always using it, and when i'm sleeping all my processing power and RAM is taken up by Shareaza and other programs to get anime overnight. If i get more RAM then i might consider it.

Edit:
I decided to join anyway. But for some reason it's screwed up. It dosn't show my name, or any of my results. What the hell happened?! Why arn't i showing up properly o.O?

If my name or results won't display properly, then i might just un-install the program.
