If you only saw the prequels you've seen nothing. I recommend reading volumes 1-5 & 12-28 of the manga since those are the volumes he appears in. And if it's anime you're watching, try the first OAV since it deals with the very end of his reign. He's pretty badass in the prequels too but he doesn't really get to show his true qualities there.

Sephiroth! (even though the FFVIIAC movie isn't out yet he's still the coolest character ever!).

For present anime though I'd probably pick Kaneda/Tetsuo from Akira...still half way through the manga but they both rule in the anime and the manga so far...also Kay is a pretty cool character http://forums.gotwoot.net/html/emoticons/rolleyes.gif. Generally anime characters can piss me off sometimes but I like the characters in Akira. I kinda like the Saras or whatever her name is from Hellsing too http://forums.gotwoot.net/html/emoticons/tongue.gif...considering how few anime characters I don't like its surprising how hard it is to pick a favourite http://forums.gotwoot.net/html/emoticons/rolleyes.gif

Motoko might have been a favourite as she looks cool and is cool in the movie, but I don't like her character so much in GitS:SAC and in what little I've read of the Manga.

Shinji acts like a six years old... i know he had a bad life and everyone hates him (cuz he&#39;s such a crybaby) but still, he&#39;s 16, he should have gotten himself something similiar to a spine by now, or at least be mad with style, like Soujiro or Orchimaru...

Shinji got the chance to operate a gigantic robot, and what did he do with that chance? absaloutly nothing&#33; he cried all the day like some newborn baby... he should have at least gone mad with some diginty, like a killing spring or &#39;lets kill daddy&#39; thing..


i won&#39;t say i entriely hated him, he had a few good parts, but whenever the anime got serious, he looked like some out of place idiot, he should have left angsting to the girls...


and one last thing: even the most devoted NGE fan admit that he&#39;s useless, but they also say he isn&#39;t gay, just lonely...

there are way too many animes to pick a favorite charecter out of them.. i&#39;ve got about 2 favorites in each show and i couldn&#39;t possibley choose the ultimate favorite one.

if i have to choose, i can say i defintally like these few from thier repective animes:

Piccolo (DBZ): he makes funny comments (&quot;is it over?&quot; &quot;not until the fish jumps&quot;) he&#39;s probably the smartest fighter on the anime (Buu would have never been able to match gohan without his battle sense), he has ownish fights (17, cell, even his fight against freeza was nice) and he can regenarate his organs. you won&#39;t find anyone cooler than him in the entire DBZ anime.

Tanchikuma (GITS:SAC): the robots attack&#33; run for your life&#33; tanchikuma is here and no one will be able to stop him from being the funniest, cuetest matallic thing ever&#33;

Houshimaru (Narutaru): he&#39;s just so cute, i can&#39;t resiset a murderous star...

Hiei (Yu Yu Hakusho): he can stand in the ring and fart his enemy to death and still be cool.

Chrno (Chrno Crusade): he stands up rossete, you got to give him credit for that, and i still think he looked cool in ep 4, when he almost changed into his complete demon form.

Soujiro (Rurouni Kenshin): he the worst swordsman around the anime and he still wins just by being an uber 133t guy, me and my friends are still not sure if he could win shishio, but he&#39;s definatlly an owning kind of guy.

Gutts (Berserk): he&#39;s a cynical, crazy-in-love, vengefull mainiac with a large sword and good battle animation, you don&#39;t go much farther than that on the &#39;cool&#39; ladder.


BTW: Shinji Ikari is the anime equivelent of shit, you have to have him, but no one wants to...

Leopold Scorpes (Scrapped Princess) - He's simply a fun character to watch develop. He starts out seeming like simple comic relief, but he develops into so much more.

Erlic Brothers (Full Metal Alchemist) - The pair of the Erlic brothers should forever be known as the best Anime Duo in history. So many ironies surrounding their characterizations, great comedy in reference to their bodies, and, of course, incredible development on both parts.

Vash the Stampede (Trigun) - Has there ever been an anime character with more layers, more depth and just more loveable than Vash? He is a god among anime heroes.


Villians:

Valgaav (Slayers TRY) - What the deuce? A Slayers villian with decent motivation and development? We have a winner!

Soujiro (Rurouni Kenshin) - In case you couldn't tell, character development is a big deal for me. Soujiro has ALOT of character development. He simply rules.

Zabuza &amp; Haku (Naruto) - Once again, development is key. Oh, and villians who end up having legitimate changes of heart? Incredible. These two characters have the saddest deaths I've ever seen in anime.

Hunter X Hunter: Hisoka + Killua, Hisoka is creepy as F**K! I mean, he gets off over Gon and Danchou, if thats not weird what is. And Killua because hes cocky as hell and totally kicks ass.

Yu Yu Hakusho: Hiei cause hes a pissy little fire demon.

DBZ: Vegeta because of his arrogance and humour.

GunGrave: Brandon Heat as he kicks ass with a gun.

Saga - from 'Saint Seiya'
He's strikingly similar to Sephiroth from Final Fantasy 7 (the baddest character ever), except more evil. On one side, he's a great legend that everybody looks up to; on the other, he's one bad-ass villain that desires universal dominance, and shows no mercy in a fight. On both sides, he's an incarnation of a God, and is knows to be the strongest. Gemini owns.

Seta Soujiro - from 'Rurouni Kenshin'
An assassin with a single emition (happiness, or so he acts) whom is born with a natural swordsman ability... naturally awsome. And his super speed owns!

Dr. Jackal from "Getbackers":

He has such a cool and mysterious aura. The way he talks, moves, looks, all just reak of style and charisma. He's always so confident and never seems surprised, shocked or scared. He's a genius battle tactician. And the scalpels are just damned cool too.


Monkey D. Luffy from "One Piece":

His optimism never dies. He constantly looks on the bright side of things. The fact that he's naive about a lot of things is hilarious - such a humorous character. I doubt that he's ever told a lie in his life, he's always 100% honest no matter who he's talking to or what he's saying - it's a refreshing change. He sticks up for his friends, puts his life on the line for what he believes in. Plus, he's super strong, he has an interesting fighting technique, and the whole rubber factor is awesome! Man what I wouldn't give to join his crew, just to be able to hang out with Luffy and the gang!

Naruto series is unusual in the fact that it has alot of likable characters... so it's hard to choose a favorite from it... but if i had to - Gaara ... simply because i destroy people with him in the fighting game. runner up is kakashi and sasuke - by far the two characters with one of the cheesiest moves in anime history

Rurouni Kenshin has the same problem - too many cool characters. so Sano it is for kenshin.

Flame of Recca - Recca was awesome in my book ever since he got smacked around by Oni no Kukai.

Hellsing - Alucard, dude he called the first vampire a "PuNk!" in bad english in the first episode - he's classic.

Scryed - Kazuma, the character who forever changed what a guy says while punching someone in the face ... really hard "shogeki no first bulleto!" lmao.

Air Master - this series really sucked but it had one character who made a name for himself with a few lines and parts that will be forever remembered. - Sakamoto Jullieta (Sp?) dude.. he kicks some slutty high school girls then he said "are you protected by Ultra Man or something?? if not..." then booted the shit out of three random guys. &lt;&lt; freakin classic. not to mention he walked around booting people with his hands in his pockets bwa haha.

you've seen the movie and that stopped you from watching the series?
big mistake, the anime is so much better than the movie!

here's an example, remember the scene in the movie with the dog, it went something like this:

"hello there, little doggy"
"OMG! OMG! you can see my dog, it must mean you're a dragon of earth, i'm going to kill you!"
~~~fight, and then someone dies~~~~

the anime had about 3 episodes on thier realtionship, and in the anime you had time to learn about charecters before they were brutally killed every ten mintues...

No I never even knew about the anime...I just meant I saw the film a year or two ago and it was cool but confusing...as soon as I heard about the anime (by accident when I was looking for a review on AD Police manga) I searched for it on the net and started downloading...but its slow going - 8 eps at 2gig (plus I downloaded a few films and other anime/manga at the same time so its taken quite a while)...

X the Movie... saw that at Anime North 2 or 3 years ago. We threw food at the screen beause the ending sucked so much. The crowd was booing as a whole after that stupid conclusion.

Hellsing : Alucard - was the shit, plain and simple, and the soundtrack that was goin when u see him about to kick ass just makes u wanna wet yourself

Trigun : Wolfwood/Vash - they were sick, skilled when serious, yet funny as all hell, loved em

Get Backers : Ginji - i dont care what anyone says Raiten coulda defeated Mido easily! He's full of crap. Also the dollish version of ginji (usually seen when he attempted to run from Dr. Jackal) ownz all

Golden Boy : Kintaro - lol pervert to the max, gotta love it

FMP-Fumoffu : Sagara - he was the man, hilarity followed wherever he goes

Green Green : the moronic trio - they had their homosexual moments but they were funny overall

Wolf's Rain : Kiba - love that white wolf, cool lookin as all hell and strong to boot

GTO : Onizuka - hahahahahahahahaahahahahahaah

Konjiki no Gash Bell : Gash - anyone that'd stick their tiny penee in someones face that early in the morning can only be described as hilarious
