I don't remember there being multiple specials. The only one that I know of (day at survival mountain) can be watched almost anytime. I'll probably say after episode 35 (so echizen has a chance to settle into the team) but before episode 70 (around where one of the characters leaves, I have no idea what the episode really is, and I'm not telling which one leaves, its a surprise!).
While I will say Ippo has no comparisons (it looks like whatever Ippo-comparison was made was edited out of the original post), I will say that Prince of Tennis is my favorite sports anime right behind Ippo. Unless you consider Inital D a sport anime, in which case its my third favorite sports anime. Unless you consider sexy no jutsu a sport, which makes it fourth...

there are the tenipuri specials to i love those http://www.gotwoot.net/forum/html/emoticons/tongue.gif but prince of tennis is far from finished when it is its going to be an aweosoem show. hajime no ippo is of course also super cool and hikaru no go is a good sports anime to. i think those 3 top the list. i love all three. but PoT definetly got the most characters and stuff. i havent seen an anime that can compare there are so much great characters. i like Fuji he's cool looks like a nice boy on the outside but what he truly likes to see is people that suffer hehe he's kinda freaky.

PoT is good... but my fav sports-anime is still SLAM DUNK.
If you consider HnG to be a sports anime... then it is my second fav.
http://www.gotwoot.net/forum/html/emoticons/mf_laughbounce.gif I like kikumaru-senpai!

Prince of Tennis is a fantastic anime, though there are obvious exaggerations. But arent all sports anime like that?

yeah they exaggerate a lot. Slam Dunk didn't have that much "super power sport" kind of thing but they still had their exaggerations like Mitsui making every 3-pointer and stuff.

True, but how fun and popular would one get without the exaggerations.
You watch basketball or football. Sure, there are a few suprising events that occur once in a while but incomparable to what the anime can do.

I've never seen Hajime no Ippo, so I don't know how the two compare, but I love Prince of Tennis.

I haven't seen Captain Tsubasa yet. Last time I had the urge I went looking for opinions. One guy told me it was the DBZ of sport anime. Every time they went in for a shot they would power up for a minute or two.

I agree with that, I've never said that I don't like sports anime. In fact in one of my earlier posts I said that I consider Slam Dunk to be one of my top 10 favorites. Sometimes it gets too cheesy, though. For example in Captain Tsubasa, all the soccer shots had fire with them http://forums.gotwoot.net/html/emoticons/laugh.gif http://forums.gotwoot.net/html/emoticons/laugh.gif , I thought that was great when I was 8 years old, but now I find it kind of cheesy.

Prince of tennis sucks... Hajime is alot better than Prince of tennis...
They only got stupid tennis moves like what ever

you obviously cant see what a good anime is. and the "stupid" tennis moves you speak of, most of them are real but exagurated(sp?) i hope you get what i mean. Prince of tennis got great characters and alot of them, the tennis matches are interesting and the show doesnt get boring at any time. hajime no ippo is of course good to but it gets a bit boring around ep 20 - 25 but after that it gets better again. the biggest flaw in hajime no ippo is that it lack in characters.
