This one would be really hard to say without first knowing your tastes in music .. hm. I'd say the biggest name in JPop at the moment is still "Ayumi Hamasaki", though. XD Personally, I hate her, but a ton of people love her music - so you could check that out.

Some that I like are: (mixed JPop/Jrock) Utada Hikaru, L'Arc-En-Ciel, The Brilliant Green, Aikawa Nanase, Day After Tomorrow, Morning Musume - that's just naming a few. There's a ton of great stuff out there.

I usually get most of my older music off P2P sites. As for new music - there's one site I know of for the newest releases, but it's not really up for me to give to the masses XD But I'm sure you can find stuff out there. Even on anime.mircx.com, they have tons of soundtracks posted (Mostly by #Anime-Game-OST).
Soundtracks are a good place to start, too ^^ You can see who does what songs, and maybe you'll end up liking them.

I know ever since Naruto's second opening, I've checked out every release from Asian Kung-fu Generation.

Thanks.

Yeah, same here. They only have two singles and one album out. I have all three of the things (downloaded, but I will import them when I have the money). And Akeboshi is good (Naruto 1st Ending), but I haven't been able to find any torrents for any of their albums/singles.

Ah, I almost forgot. You could try the pillows, the guys that provided most of the music for FLCL. I love their music.

Anyone know of anyplace to download anything by Akeboshi (Naruto 1st Ending), besides the 1st ED single? Or know when their album comes out (if there is one in the making).

If you had to find/download just one Japanese artist, make it Yoko Kanno (& the Seatbelts). You may remember her from such soundtracks as Stand Alone Complex and Cowboy Bebop.

I've got a couple of her albums (notably the two above), and they are absolutely outstanding.

Other than Yoko, I recommend Mad Capsule Markets, Rip Slyme, Plus-Tech Squeezebox, and Puffy Amiyumi if you can find any. Most of the other stuff I've got/recommend is miscelaneous anime soundtracks - they just seem to have better music than Western cartoons.

The Mad Capsule Markets are the best band on earth - get Osc-Dis as its well amazing, plus Takeshi Ueda is the god of bass...

If you're downloading I recommend Midi Surf, Island, Tribe, Bit Crusherrr, Come, Chaos Step, Gaga Life, Scary, Systematic.....*carries on mumbling other amazing songs by them*

I kind of like one or two songs by Ayumi Hamasaki but I don't know much about J-Pop.

Aren't there a few HMVs in the US? Might they carry some imports?
