no not really he is a sennin its kinda hard to be a sannin since SanNin means three ninjas. San = three Nin = ninjas. thats why they are called the sannin not the sannins or 3 sannin. just sannin. to be a sannin you have to be three ninjas in one body. the only one that can do that is possbily sakon and ukon.

not really the sword is named after the sword found in watashi no orochi the 8 headed snake. orochimaru might be a human version of watashi no orochi.
