well - notice that the casters are at a slightly lower elevation that the actual battle. so i&#39;m assuming there is also a field underneath the rooftop.

Each field thingy probaly blocks chakra.
Think of Star Trek and their shields...the shields will deflect everything except weapons that are on the same frequency as the shields are.

Basically only the sound 4 are capable of sending chakra through the field. Er...perhaps spirit energy frequency might be a better term?

Now you ask, why don&#39;t the Sound 4 attack from within the shield? Probaly because there too busy concentrating on keeping the field.

the reason why they dont go in there is quite simple.... 3rd is fighting orochimaru and 2 hokages in there... if an ANBU goes in there it would mean certain death to him. it would probably work to go through the roof from underneath but its not very smart since orochimaru probably would kill you in 2 seconds.

I&#39;m fairly certain chidori COULD cut through it... but the thing about the field is that it isn&#39;t hard as in solid but that it burns you when you touch it, so what you would need is a technique that protects you not be able to cut through stuff.
