EDIT

Audition

A middle-aged widower decides to choose a new wife by holding a fake audition...it gets very disturbing later on

Ichi The Killer

Extremely violent in a comic book/kill bill kind of way. Film features an extreme sadist and an extreme masochist

Tetsuo

Bizarre film where two men slowly become machines...violent, fast paced and quite disturbing. Is low budget (shot in black and white) and just over an hour long but its really cool and well done...I just got this on DVD with the sequel and I'm looking forward to seeing the second one...

Ring, Ring 2, Ring 0, The Ring Virus (Korean), The Spiral (aka Rasen)

Famous now because of the American remake ( http://www.gotwoot.net/forum/html/emoticons/mad.gif ) but the Japanese ones are better. Ring virus is a Korean version of the first film and The Spiral was the original sequel before Ring 2 was brought out. Kinda difficult to explain...but its basically about a cursed video tape...very scary (especially Ring and Ring 2).

The Eye

Japanese or Korean film that Tom Cruise is planning to make an american remake of...is no good foreign film safe?? I heard theres gonna be an american version of Tesis (cool spanish film) as well...

The Legend Of Fong Sai Yuk 1 & 2

Cool kung fu films set in China (in the past) starring Jet Li...my favourite films featuring him...why these aren't so readily available (at least here in Britain) on DVD I have no idea...

Once Upon A Time In China

Pretty good (but not great) film with Jet Li also set in the past in China...

Phone

Brilliant Japanese horror film involving a mobile phone...has a similar technology curse theme to Ring and Kairo (Pulse)

Kairo (Pulse)

Similar to Phone and Ring but not quite as good...this time involving ghosts and the Internet...gets very weird towards the end...

Dark Water

Cool Japanese horror film by the same directer (and based on the book by the same author) of Ring.

Battle Royale 1 & 2

See the topic elsewhere in the General Chat section...

Fist Of Fury
Game Of Death
Way Of The Dragon

Jackie Chan films I have trouble remembering their names but the Police Story films are good (though they follow a similar Jackie Chan storyline which occurs a few times too often for my liking), Meals on Wheels is cool, Rumble in the Bronx is good and a couple of his hollywood films are really cool (Rush Hour and Rush Hour 2)...

U know about these already http://www.gotwoot.net/forum/html/emoticons/smile.gif

Um throne of blood (although that may be hard to find), Kagemusha.
Oh also you know how 7 samurai inspired magnificient 7, well Yojimbo inspired A fist full of dollars. (A Clint Eastwood western. I think its the one in back to the future.)

Also an overlooked samurai movie(s) is the &quot;Samurai&quot; trilogy movies. It has Toshiro Mifune(Can&#39;t remember his name) and it is based on a legendary japanese samurai. The story is based on a book called Musashi and there is also a manga of it called Vagabond. I bet you can guess where I got my name from........

And last I agree with everything else but there is one movie I want to see. It&#39;s called Miracles and it has Jackie Chan. The intresting thing about it is that it looks like the backdrop form the 1920&#39;s but with kung fu. Looks cool. If anyone has any info regarding where I can find this movie please PM me.

EDIT: Can&#39;t forget, I just d/l a movie called Twilight of the Samurai. It is up for an oscar this year so it may be good. Need to watch it soon........ </td></tr></table><div class='postcolor'>
Yojimbo i must see cause fist full of dollars is one of my favorit films.
By the way the Samurai Aeon in Final Fantasy X isn&#39;t Yojimbo?

Is Vaganbond manga good?

Also if you know of any good Samurai manga other than Kensin and Peace Maker Kurogane tell me. I love anything with to do with Samurai:D
Im thinking of starting to learn Kendo.

The 1920&#39;s Kung Fu setting sounds familiar. I remember that older Japanese samurai movies have lots of gratuitous blood (hey, that sounds familiar.. Kill Bill, anyone?) Not too sure about the Jackie Chan part though.. Might be another Drunken Master though http://www.gotwoot.net/forum/html/emoticons/biggrin.gif And that&#39;s always a plus&#33;

And yes, the Samurai in FFX is Yojimbo. I think Yojimbo&#39;s a common name for Samurai warriors...

Some good Samuraiish anime/manga? Uhm.. I dunno.
I saw one episode of something called &quot;Mobile Shinsengumi&quot; about the daughters of the Shinsengumi members... but it&#39;s WAAAAAY shoujo.

Also, I never saw it, and I heard it&#39;s very Cowboy Bebop inspired, but &quot;Kaze No Yojimbo&quot; might be a good one?

Hatake Kakashi
Thu, 02-05-2004, 11:22 AM
Yojimbo means, the Bodyguard.

That is why the name is appropriate for the character in FFX. He is your bodyguard on your journey, but you have to pay him. A true bodyguard for hire.

Their is an anime called Kaze no Yojimbo, which is translated roughly to Wind Guardian. Sometimes it can mean Guardian, it just depends on the usage.

Meh i like Vagabond, but some may not like cause it doesn&#39;t have a superhuman main character. I think its kinda old (started in 2000) so right now i think volumes 1-7 are released in english. I dunno if you can find it on the internet though.
Also theirs an anime called Samurai deeper kyo. I don&#39;t really like it but you can decide on that yourself. http://www.gotwoot.net/forum/html/emoticons/tongue.gif

Oh also I just watch The Twilight Samurai. Not a lot of action but when there is it is really sweet.

Hatake Kakashi
Fri, 02-06-2004, 12:38 PM
and before that Clint Eastwood did his own version called a Fistful of Dollars. It was a spaghetti western where he did the same thing as Mifune&#39;s character.

Vagabond is based on Musashi&#39;s auto biography of the same name, right? I might have to check that out.

I am more psyched for Zatoichi, than anything right now. I have the Kurosawa Criterion Box Set and have been trying to watch them again.

My favorite Asian movie right now has to be Versus though. Get the Uncut Special Edition from Media Blasters, you will love it.

Well i just watch Ichi the killer and I have to say its not really my thing. Very weird movie with weird action.
Anyways, kakashi what is Zatoichi? I saw a movie in a video store with the same name. I also saw one called Yojimbo vs Zatoichi or something.

Hatake Kakashi
Sat, 02-07-2004, 01:26 PM
Zatoichi is the fabled blind swordsman. Their have been many movies, series, and novels written about him.

The latest movie was directed by Takeshi Kitano, who also starred. It should be on DVD pretty soon if it isn&#39;t out already.

Zatoichi vs Yojimbo is an older movie in which Tushiro Mifune costars with the Zatoichi actor. He plays a Yojimbo, not Sanjuro the Yojimbo, but another character of the same type. All the old Zatoichi movies started getting listed for higher prices due to the popularity of the 2003 movie with Kitano.

Hatake Kakashi: I dunno if you already knew this but Zatoichi is coming to theaters in the US and probably Canada. I dunno if you live in either of these places. BTW do you know when it comes to DVD cause it said it is coming to movie theaters in the summer. The weirdest thing about this is that it is being brung over seas by miramax. http://www.gotwoot.net/forum/html/emoticons/blink.gif
