4th Hokage

I don't understand this, why couldn't the 3rd Hokage seal Kyuubi instead of the 4th.

Is it because Gamabunta can give extra chakra to the 4th?( Not sure if this theory is right, I saw this on Gotwoot or animesuki)

The 3rd could seal Kyuubi,but it seems like it was the 4th's choice.Techniclly the 3rd Hokage is the strongest one so far,so it seems like it was his choice.

i think it is because he was hokage and he thought of it as his duty to do it.

Ya, its just because he was the hokage at the time, but the 3rd was the strongest of all the hokages, I am not sure if at the time the 4th was stronger though since the 4th was beggining to get old.

the 3. might be old but hes still hokage, why would he be Hokage, active, when he was not still the best in the village? think 'bout that.

I think the 3rd retired to the 4th because the 4th had gone better than th 3rd and so he had to seal kyubi.

The 4rd,

he was able to do his suicide jutsu on the first 2 hokage's bodies, just barely too weak to do that again against oro, tat means less than 1/3 his total chakra almost killed oro, the 4rth tho against kyubi, was more powerful than all 3 others together. age would only increase the power of a person in here rite?

And for the topic. The 3rd was getting old so they had to choose a new Hokage. And The Fourth (i don't remember/know his name) was chosen because he was at that time the most powerful and most fitting for Hokage job. You can guess that the Third who loves Konoha above all else wouldn't choose someone who doesn't feel the same way.

... and one day The Kyubi apeared! All the shinobis were sent to battle the Kyubi to delay it and that it wouldn't destroy the whole Konoha before The 4th arrived.
Maybe he was just late (Kakashi style) or maybe... he was preparing the jutsu or something.

The 4th didn't look that old to me in the pictures i've seen. Unless by old you meant not a kid, in which case please forgive me. They say that the 3rd is the strongest hokage ever, but i have a feelin the 4th was starting to surpass him. During the episodes when Konoha found out that Orochimaru was gonna pull sumthin, Hokage seemed like he wanted the 4th around. I think some jounin maybe Anko said "If only the fourth were here." I don't know, mabye it's just cause old man Hokage is past his prime.

At the time of the kyuubi battle, the 3rd was retired because the 4th was the current hokage. When the 4th died from the seal, the 3rd was forced to come out of retirement because they needed a hokage.

And yeah, the 3rd in his prime probably would have been stronger than the 4th. But as an old man, the 3rd is losing his edge a bit I think.

I always thought the 4th was the strongest.... even if he wasn't he was still younger than the 3rd and he could have probably gotten stronger was he grew older... by that I mean not an old man like the 3rd is now but just an older man.

The 3rd in his prime was called the god of shinobi. He was the best ever. They chose the 4th because the 3rd was too old and lost lots of his power. If u go back to the story u'll see that the 3rd is ero sennin's sensei and ero sennin is the 4th sensie. This leads me to believe that the 3rd was already too old at the time when they chose the 4th 12 years ago. I bet that he's in his 80s or even 90s now.
Anyway the 4th sealed kyubi not because the 3rd couldn't, but because he was the hokage at that time and it was his duty.

Hmm, I also think that it was the decision of the 4th. Maybe he wanted to get remembered as a true hero who saved the world from the Kyuubi. I also think that maybe the 3rd Hokage would have been able to seal Kyuubi. Or maybe he wasn't http://www.gotwoot.net/forum/html/emoticons/ohmy.gif, it's nearly impossible to say how the things were. Of course it was easier to the 4th as he had the control of Gamabunta. It bet it would have been difficult to fight Kyuubi without Gamabunta.

There are heroes and there are who aren't. The 4th Hokage was a hero and he did what everyone else wouldn't do, he saved the world from Kuybi. I think by thinking about the fact that 3rd hokage was old and he (4th) was the hokage he had to do something to save the world.

Btw. The hokages are the strongest nins in the village so who would be the 5th hokage after 4th? or would the next hokage be 4th because 4th died ?

personally i think the 4th did it cuz only he was strong enuff.......i dont c the point of letting the hokage die if theres someone else who could've done it. its like, if the 3rd was to do a suicide jutsu to kill oro, when jiraya/the unknown senin could beat him instead (hypothetically speaking)......it would make no sense.
