Can I get an account to your FTP please?

And bit torrent is peer to peer, and I use that for pretty much everything right now.

I just recently started using BT as it hasn't worked for me in the past..
Before that I used DC..

Now it's all BT, and the rare usage of DC when I can't find a torrent for
the things that I want to download..

I used to use Kaaza and eDonkey but I got one of those letters in the mail, so now I only use newsgroups and mirc. http://www.gotwoot.net/forum/html/emoticons/smile.gif

eMule is my last resort. its usually good at finding things but not quite as good for actually downloading something http://www.gotwoot.net/forum/html/emoticons/tongue.gif
otherwise its usually a torrent or DC. DC may not have everything in the world, but its more realiable than most other p2p that is like "893849384 USERS" but you only dl from 1 user and it goes .2 kbs

Can you explain newsgroups to me? I've heard about it,but I'm not sure what it is exactly.

Newsgroups are sort of like Forums except that you have absolute freedom in what you can post(exe, rar, zip ect). If you go to yahoo groups you usually can find anything you want. Games, Movies and other stuff like that.

I mean Im not the most familiar with them myself but I think thats the general just of it.

How many of you use Peer-to-peer programs for anime downloads?

If I can't find the anime on torrent I in worst cases use DC++ (Direct Connect)

Normaly I try to find the serie I want on FTP or asking some of the users that has access to my own FTP to upload.

peer-to-peer programs really isn't a hot alternative if you ask me

I'm using DC++ sometimes for anime that isn't seeded on BT.
Also Shareaza

I use Shareaza as my main P2P and Torrent client. DC++ i tried but i got kicked off a server and the server said they sent of my info to the FBI for pedophiliac porn or something like that.

It wasn't actually pedophilliac porn, it was just a file i downloaded off the P2P world with some fake gay ass name which made it seem like it was. I changed the name to one which suited the picture better, which was a Love Hina wallpaper. I've never had a problem with filenames since, because i've learned how to get better search results, but since then i was totally put of DC if they're going to work WITH the record companies and the governmental authorities. Especially if they report false information about me.

God that pissed me off. http://www.gotwoot.net/forum/html/emoticons/mad.gif

mwhahaha. wanna bet? Found this way cool anime FTP which gives me a constant rate of 112 KiloBytes per second! a whole episode in just under 20minutes of download time. whoooo! ^^

But the guy is having problems maintaining it. He might have to shut it down eventually if he dosn't get any donations or more HardDrive space. =/

The other thing is, i can only download 1 file for every session. Then i have to disconnect and wait for 30 minutes before i can start another session for another download. That's about 1 anime episode per hour, (an average of 15 episodes per day).

Also only 20 people can connect at any one time, which means if i tell you guys i'm unlikely to be able to connect. So i'm gonna keep it a secret. MWHAHAHAHAHA.

*ahem*

Mhawawawaw nothing, I'll stick with irc channels and get an average of 300 kbs http://www.gotwoot.net/forum/html/emoticons/mf_laughbounce2.gif

300 kbps is nothing compared to my 112KBps. mwhahahaha! so ner =P

because your kbps is = to 300 KiloBits per second rather than Bytes. Thus you're only getting it at a rate of 30KBps in comparison to my amazing 112KBps.

All the instructions are at the site. Its the best for stuff thats hard to find and diverse files.

nothing is better than an unrestricted access ftp of either a member of the fansub crew that did the series you're trying to download, or of a friend who's made it a point to download, screen, and appropriately name the series you're trying to get.

But those are hard to get, especially if you aren't a fansubber yourself and don't have college campus type connections (campus sharing communities tend to form with not too much effort, given a fairly large and diverse set of residents).

When I can, I stick to l33t ftp hookups. When I can't, I look for .edu xdcc's if it's for a new release or if the group whose stuff I'm getting has an archive set up for it, and then I go to torrents as my third choice. Which is still pretty high on the list.

3 is the cutoff though. I rank kazaa, gnutella clients, dc, emule, all that stuff tied for dead last. With p2p searchable networks like those, you don't know what you're going to get. Trusted ftp's are nice because you know if the file's not the right one, you can tell the owner and they'll fix it. With torrents, you have cryptography on your side, with sha values calculated on every chunk of data. With xdcc bots, they tend to reside in the same place as the group itself, so if it's not the right file you grab an op and they get the problem fixed. With p2p searchable stuff, there are a lot more malignant users and the purpose for many people being on the network tends not to be "share" but "get". Rather different than the purpose of the fansub group's xdcc bots and torrent page, which are pretty much "we're giving this, you can have it". Ya know?

lol. yeah i agree with you there.

btw, that anime server thing sounds cool, i might try it out by adding the server to my shareaza. The really annoying thing though is about not having MP3 files shared, which means i'm going to have to screw around with my share directory system on shareaza to access the network. blah.... bit of hassle but it may be worth it... =P

Yeah this FTP is very good. Not sure about the IRC channels, perhaps they are as good as Joker says after all. But to get 300KBps you would need a 3MB connection. Do you really have a 3MB connection? England sucks, we've barely got a 1MB connection http://www.gotwoot.net/forum/html/emoticons/sad.gif

I tried using IRC myself, but i thought of it as a pain because i had a bad experience with it. I tried downloading a file, but then i lost my transfer window, so i didn't know how much i was downloading and at what speed. So i disconnected and reconnected to the server, and tried to download the file again. But the bot wouldn't let me, it kept saying i had already requested that file. Feh.... besides. The only speeds i got with the bots was a max of 30KBps myself. I'm amazed at Jokers speed, how he got 300KBps i will never know http://www.gotwoot.net/forum/html/emoticons/laugh.gif
