Tags I'd put here: reincarnation - revenge - changing history - edgy/dark - powerfantasy.

https://reaperscans.com/series/revenge-of-the-sword-clans-hound/chapter-1

I'm currently all caught up. And it's a mix between your typical revenge and powerfantasy story.
It's nothing much but better than most in that regard and I know some people like stories like these.

I'd put this at about or... frankly above the level of Solo Leveling, so whoeever enjoyed that might at least find this readable as well.
Translation is so-so, but at some point it seems to be the case that the translator switched and the english got better. Tbh the translation was the hardest part to get past and enjoy this for me.

OP is an absolute "badass" who gets a lot of power ups, his favored word/sentence is "before I regressed.." as you will soon notice if you start reading.
The art is very decent up to the level of good in my opinion. Sometimes it's a bit too flashy and messy but overall it's certainly not bad.
The demons that appear in this story are rather brutal, overall it has some rather dark themes.
Eating children, cannibalism, rape, executions, drugs, utter disregard of human life etc. but there are lighter moments as well. It's overall an interesting story and I was able to read 30+ chapters on a weekend without getting bored of it.

Something some user may like: MC doesn't mess around, he kills whoever thinks deserves it, and he doesn't hesitate.

Like in most of these types of stories, I always find it a bit disappointing that MC gets to power up way beyond what others can achieve, which makes it a bit boring - just like in Solo Leveling. I can say that I've now read like a few hundred of stories with similar themes and this is one of the better ones in my opinion, but take that with a grain of salt, because most of them are utter trash.
Wouldn't mind an anime adaption of this, tbh.
Certainly no "great anime" material, but it would most likely be more fun than most other shows/isekai/reincarnation stories.

I expect that people will be entertained to read and pass some time, if they like the setup.

If you happen to read it, feel free to bash it or discuss it.
Wouldn't mind some recommendations either.

So much WAKI.

Much thanks.

I didn't even notice that and wouldn't know when and where, even while I'm thinking about it.
You sure have an eye for that.

Only while writing this I realized you are probably talking about the girl from the tribe? Or perhaps also the Morgue/red head?

Glad you liked it.
Edit: Chapter 86 (I think is the latest, where he fights the minions of the demon-priest) had a nice cliffhanger, although I doubt it's really her. But god damn, that would be quite harsh und rarely seen in series like these.

Aiyen. Sleeveless archers are the best class. Only at 62 atm.

I cannot blame you for not noticing. It would not be an exaggeration to say that is the first thing I notice at any moment.

It's Camus's cousin, the one she was crying about I think. All caught up.

Yeah most likely. Would've made me a little uncomfortable otherwise, not gonna lie. The good kind though.

Is this a consistent weekly release?

Might actually, looking at the release dates.
Not sure if I'll check it every week though, I kinda like having a bit more available to binge through.

But then again.... it's quite interesting right now.

Do you have any other recommendations similar to this one?

KrayZ33
Tue, 11-12-2024, 04:03 PM
Not really. Let's assume this one here is a 10/10 (so we have a bar)

I obviously haven't even tried all the bazillionton of the same story in variant B or those that are of the same genre.
The only one I'm up to date on, other than this one, but I don't think deserved a thread was:

Infinite Mage (5-7/10)

Some orphan has a super special talent for spellcasting, and then it's about being in a mage academy. But that one became quite weird ever since the author decided it is a good idea to explain magic with physics and math - magic - something.
I understand that he wanted to show that they are actually studying magic .. but it's just unnecessary.
The fact that I came all the way to the latest chapter, which is 92 I believe, however is at least something.

Then there is:

The Knight King Who Returned with a God (5-7/10)

which is more of a comedy for me.
That fucker MC is actually a racist against orcs and spits on people and sees them as below him. It had it's moment and stopped when I reached the end of what was available back then, but haven't even started reading it again.
The art wasn't that good, but certainly decent enough (edit: now after seeing it again, it actually looks good) and it had some seriously cool fantasy knight armor and amazing monster design. At least to the point where I read it.

It's about a King, similar to Pendragon, but in a fantasy world, who reincarnated into the modern one.
And the modern one is plagued by "Gates" just like in Solo Leveling.
He has his old god-given powers (holy swords, blessings) of his old world, where gods actually did shit and is now basically crusading/gathering believers in our world while clearing the gates for us and helping the world, who he considers his subjects in need of protection. All the time while being a complete dick as he used to be a king and wants while he wants to be treated as such at every moment.
He basically "creates" a guild that doesn't value just A-Ranks S-Ranks etc. but basically everyone willing to be loyal to him and buffs them with his "arthurian-spells", so even lousy C-Ranks have certain power and could technically fight B and A ranks. He creates his own army, so to say.
And obviously he himself is SSSSSSS-Rank.

Only way to find good ones is, sadly, to swim through the garbage and see what sticks.
And considering that they are like 200 manhwa's and manga's of the same topic at every given moment... it's just tedious.
Really glad I found this one, and the problem mentioned above is the reason why I asked for other people to recommend me some :D

I have stopped reading manga and manhwa years ago. I only read Chainsawman now, so any recommendation is welcome. Thank you for these ones!

Reading this: The Knight King Who Returned with a God

This is less Pendragon and more Gilgamesh, and I am here for it.

KrayZ33
Thu, 11-14-2024, 04:44 AM
Yeah true, but "arthurian era" instead of sumerian, and he has more respect for the gods than Gil.
He obviously looks like Fate's Gilgamesh as well.

shinta|hikari
Thu, 11-14-2024, 07:17 AM
Might be the author fanfictioning a Gilgamesh and Artoria baby.

He literally is a mishmash of both's personalities, looks, and powers.

His respect for the Gods is weird because they literally live inside of him, which is like the most narcissistic shit ever. "I truly revere the things that are stuck inside me, love me, and give me power."

Ah... new chapter was quite cool.
I think I'm gonna keep reading each week and not wait.

I know it's a bit edgy, but I love the facial expressions and darker style.

That was awesome. So he confirmed it wasn't Camyu, though I don't know how.

Nice work pretending to lure Dantalian out, but is he strong enough to take on an upper 10 demon alone? Last time he needed the entire might of the Baskerville family, and I am not sure how long it has been since that time. If he has reached the 8th or 9th fang, I can see him succeeding here solo.

I don't really think this series is edgy, although I never really understood how edgy is seen in a negative light.

I don't really think this series is edgy, although I never really understood how edgy is seen in a negative light.

Hard to explain but there are enough satire/joke videos about it. It's basically the western version of being a chuuni. I'm mostly talking about the way they dress, or he specifically chose to dress here (plague mask, the naming of his character etc.) basically, imagine Shadowgarden-Anime but while trying to be serious. I can endure a certain amount of it and even like it that way, but it can be dangerously close to being extremely silly.

Anyway:

I'm honestly not sure if he actually needed the help of his father and his troops. Well... he needed his father because the previous corpse would've escaped, but not actually to defeat them, as far as I remember.
I actually believed that he called in reinforcements to be safe or to make it plausible that he is only at a "certain" level.
Although I'm not sure if he even wants to keep hiding his abilities now, since he no longer plans on killing his father.

I think he did need help because the upper 10 demon summoned clones that can use the 6th fang. Back then, he only had the incomplete version of the 7th fang that could not completely defeat the demon who used the 6th. He was simply outnumbered, and his skills aren't great at AOE attacks.

As for edgy, I get what you mean now. You are using it ironically versus the original meaning of "bold, provocative, avant-garde." I can see why you would say that, but I do agree that in this story it isn't annoyingly glaring. I think the reason is because the entire world is dark and grim. For example, I wouldn't say Bloodborne is edgy, but Arifureta definitely is. When only certain characters behave and look unnaturally different compared to the rest of the world, they seem extra edgy.

I just read up to the latest of Artamesh. He has created his army and the others have a chance for the spotlight now, although he ends up saving them most of the time at the end anyway, much like OPM. His racism has only reached new levels, which now includes demons and anything related to them lol.

Just caught up with Rainbow Mage and it is a blast (of light)! All the scientific mumbo jumbo can be skipped, and even if you don't, they all tie up and are actually meaningful to the plot. Great stuff because it is never easy for the MC. He achieves great feats but only after grinding himself to dust and risking his life over and over.

Any other recommendations? You are hitting a perfect 1.0 right now, so please keep at it!

oof - maybe something "different" in terms of setting this time.
This one however doesn't necessarily have a very strong story but it's interesting enough. The search for the murderer is quite interesting as it introduces a lot of characters that are somehow connected to everything.

Reality Quest

Not sure which translation is better. I read the version where he was described with the word "game shuttle" in chapter one.

https://bato.to/chapter/2552124

https://flamecomics.xyz/series/57/6c35d20862e3950a

I liked the fight scenes. And I stopped at a point shortly after best girl appeared (knowing you, you'll probably prefer the first girl in this series - not the one at the very start though) because updates where slow... I should probably pick that one up again. Art was very good too.

I think the one on bato.to is the officially translated one (is that a thing?)? But i'm not sure, it isn't up to date to the latest either.
If you like it tell me which version you are reading/decided on. Knowing that one is official, I'd probably go with that one now.

edit:
just realized, I stopped at the end of season 1. (Chapter 123)
So I didn't even stop reading, I just never got around checking when season 2 releases.

I just finished it!

Pretty good read, but almost no waki :( The action was good, except for the overly repetitive head to the ground slam. It is absolutely hilarious that these guys are all "minors" LOL.

Do you have more recs? I was looking stuff up and saw Swordmaster's Youngest Son. Have you read it? If so, is it good?

KrayZ33
Wed, 11-27-2024, 04:57 PM
Nope, none other come to mind that lasted more than a few chapters for me.
The rest are mangas which take ages to update.
Your turn :D

edit: I think the next one I'm gonna try is

Priest of Corruption.
Saw some pictures where that guy used a chainsaw sword.

I am actually reading the Swordmaster's Youngest Son and it is eerily similar to the Baskerville one.

from the pictures I saw it doesn't look as good though... reminds me a little of the artstyle used in Solo Leveling, which I grew to dislike.
Still worth?

I agree about the artstyle, but the story beats are very similar to Baskerville. No thirsttraps so far and seems to be telling a serious story, unlike the Sealed gamer dood which has entire panels dedicated for ass and boobs.

Man, the faceless dude's "inner dimension" thingy is kinda wasted considering how creepy he could have made that one.
Instead of what looks like a sewer, he should've made it a big hall with fleshy walls where each individual is half sewn in like the aliens do in the Alien movies.
And the guy himself, while looking interesting, should've been some kind of faceless monster that has a hole full with sharp teeth instead of a face. Something like that.

The series is kinda brutal in a way anyway, after all the small girls and boys literally get eaten alive and not just "absorbed" or whatever.
Would've made it all the more gruesome knowing how all of them are basically eaten by such a monster.
The current version looks a little bit too much like a jester, even though it's certainly a spooky/demonic one.

Poor girl.

Did he only now reach the 7th fang in its full form?

shinta|hikari
Thu, 12-12-2024, 08:43 AM
I guess he only reached the 7th fang with her ultimate buff. That means he is still not on par with Hugo, who has mastered it years ago. The difference is he has the blueprint to reach the 10th fang. Since his dad and rest of the family are now allies, shouldn't he be revealing this secret to power them up as well? They are clearly virtuous, just tricked in his previous life.

EDIT:
@Krayz - I think you will like Damn Reincarnation. Give it a try!

I'm usually not a fan of tournament arcs when they don't get going, but I'm glad that he got to fight the "professor" this fast.
The fact that he shot into her face however makes me feel like it's gonna be another corpse. It would be very cool if I'm wrong though.

shinta|hikari

I didn't really need a recap of the other 3's fights. It could've been a short montage of 3 images instead of taking up 90% of the chapter. I was really looking forward to the beatdown after the last one.

I keep forgetting that Vikir is also a master archer because of his amazon training during the spider arc. He's simply also hiding his bow abilities just like his sword abilities.

I don't think this teacher is a corpse. She is just nuts, and this world has healing magic so her eye can recover. Vikir merely doled out a reasonable amount of force for someone trying to break his arm.
