Alternative title:
Ranma 1/2 (Japanese)
らんま1/2 (Japanese)

Genres: action, comedy

Themes: body switching, gender switch, harem, love polygon, martial arts, school life, tsundere

Plot Summary: Ranma Saotome has just gotten back the legendary Cursed Springs (Jusenkyo) of China and has been engaged by his father and his best friend, Genma and Soun, to Akane Tendo, Soun's daughter. Ranma and Akane are off to a rough start and it doesn't help that Ranma has a curse from Jusenkyo: turning into a girl when splashed with cold water. Throughout the series, more characters are introduced, some with curses similiar to Ranma's, and Ranma and Akane begin to love each other, even though they refuse to admit it. (from manga)

-Humour is on point.
-Art style is fine. I thought I wouldn't like it initially because it looks less serious than the first anime but it's fine.
-Detail in episode 5 - Kasumi is actually ridiculously strong?!

Why did they decide to show breast nudity but remove the nipples? Will they be there in BR?

I prefer the breasts without nipples. Makes me feel less dirty for staring at them.

I prefer them just not show the breasts using clever direction and/or foreground objects to block the "offending" parts. Showing full breasts with no nipples is just strange and jarring. If consistency is the issue, add nipples to the men too.

It's due to the network and timeslot they're in.

Does that mean they will add them in the BR? No timeslot issue there, and many shows fix up a lot of things in the BR release.

Eps 6

Kodachi enters the series (with Sakura Ayane as a replacement VA doing an excellent job playing Kodachi's particular flavor of crazy).

One of my favorite comedic aspects of the series is well displayed here. The average bystander is completely unfazed to how weird (and stupid) the main and supporting cast's behavior is.

Woman appears in the middle of the night wearing a cloak and whips it off to reveal a leotard and a giant wooden mallet? Their reaction? "Whatever that is, Not my problem." Or Suon just ignoring the pet pig of the house turning into a boy while he's bathing.

This show is so easy to watch.

While I look forward to both this and Dandadan the most each week, with Ranma 1/2 I feel like I can watch it at any time (tired, refreshed, whatever) and have a good time.

I noticed both the red and black roses but it still hadn't clicked that those two might be related until they revealed it.

Some aspects of this show are immediately recognizable as being from a different era of anime/manga (Chinese martial arts [and Chinese in general] being considered the cool thing, the slapstick nature of characters etc), but are just as funny today.

I'm quite surprised at Ranma holding out on disclosing P-chan's identity. He really has no reason to hide it, besides feeling like it isn't his business (but it is).

Ranma is trying to expose him though, with the hot water. Ryouga is just strong and a skilled martial artist in his own right, even in baby pig form.

Ranma doesn't like that Ryouga is taking advantage of Akane's trust and sleeping with her many nights.

Despite his protests, Ranma has already been shown to think Akane is cute (at times) and not really all that upset about their arranged marriage.

Ranma can just tell Akane that the pig is Ryoga and explain the circumstances of how he came to be that way.

I gotta say Ryoga sexually assaulting (no consent) Akane every night doesn't seem as funny to me now compared to when I was a kid and didn't know any better.

Kodachi is one of my favorite Ranma antagonists, there may be others who are more menacing, but Kodachi's expertise in cheating doesn't get old.

It's funny how brazenly dishonorable she is, especially compared to her older brother.

I expected her to say that she's given up her love for (female) Saotome Ranma, and that she will continue her love for (male) Saotome Ranma after the scene with Ranma naming his girl form the same.

Eps 8

-------

Akane really is the best potential wife. Specifically, because she's so atypically cute. Feisty is best.

One of the things I like about the series is that they give an equal opportunity for the cast to be good at things. Ranma isn't just instantly good at everything because of his "natural agility" or because he's a "natural martial artist" like more recent bullshit of series since the mid-2000s. He actually has to learn some skills to compete in a lot of the activities they do. Likewise, Akane is already good at skating here, unlike the gymnastics, so she's in position to teach Ranma something he doesn't know, and he's more than willing to learn. Or how Ryouga is physically stronger than Ranma.

Ranma not being able to accept his own shame for not knowing how to do something immediately backfired on him, which is even funnier.

Slow burn, but it's working and I had good laughs.
The highest hurdle was the VAs with mature voices, but I'm back in the shows universe and can start to enjoy it again.

The black lips effect when Ranma got kissed was top notch.

And Akane didn't notice Ryouga with his Charlotte collar.

The Charlotte collar was part of the fun too. We can't be sure wether Akane knows or not. I like the idea she's been knowing from the start.

No way she'd know P-chan was a human and snuggled against it anyway.

Very true, but that's why I like that idea hahaha

Loved the contrast between the 1st and 2nd iterations of the Merry Go Round move.

I didn't expect the match to go onto the next episode.

Same. It's one of the more entertaining early fights though.

Episode 10

---------------------

Alright, Ryouga you're being a dick now. Ranma kept letting you off the hook and you're out for the kill as soon as you get the chance here in terms of revealing Ranma to Shampoo.

That said, so a boy beating her is okay and gets the Kiss of Affection while a girl beating her gets the Kiss of Death. This could become more risky for Akane than it is for Ranma.

Episode 12

-------------

I guess that's the first cour done.

Good fun overall, albeit this episode making me feel sad that Akane forgot Ranma, then also sad that Shampoo broke her heart after learning the truth.

Watching this first the first time.

Yeah, at this point, the only reason Ranma hasn't revealed Ryoga's identity is because it's a running gag the author thinks they can just run into the ground indefinitely. There's absolutely zero logical reason why he shouldn't have done it by now.

Also, FFS, just give girl Ranma a different name and say it's your sister. It makes explaining to normies 100x easier.
