people who don't like the church will just make jokes about priests. people who like the church won't get the entire thing. weird people will decide that luce is actually lucifer and the devil.

I honestly think it's not a bad idea... pretty sure some kids will certainly love this and find this cute.
Hard to not consider this silly as an adult though - obviously.

Would be interesting to see if they actually do a show or some short episodes with them to give these characters a story.

Seems fine if you ask me. Kids ought to find it a little bit interesting. So far the Catholic church presence in anime has mostly been that of an evil organisation. The Christian purge is still very much going on in Japan. If Vatican wants to show people that the church can be something else than a villain in anime, it's all good.

Oddly enough, a good amount of the memes about it have been wholesome or at least on-brand with being a Catholic Church mascot.

The pervy ones are happening, but I don't think they're the majority.

I'd say the campaign is surprisingly successful since the meme and fanart community have been largely self-policing regarding Luce.
