"* Based on a school life fantasy light novel series written by Araki Shin and illustrated by Morisawa Haruyuki.

A long time ago, there existed a Demon Lord who terrorized throughout the world until a Hero stepped up to the stage and challenged the Demon Lord, ultimately defeating him and ending his reign. The Hero then created Rosewood Academy, an academy made to help heroes-in-training achieve supremacy and help defend the world when needed that enrolls only the best of the best.

Enter Earnest Flaming, a girl with a high sense of duty and the top student at the academy, receiving hence the alias Empress of Flames who one day encounters the lively, carefree new transfer student Blade, a boy who seems to equal her in power, something that she finds really irritating. Earnest was then personally requested by The King to supervise, and show Blade around the academy during his stay.

The story follows the students' struggles in their quest to become heroes.

I should hate this. Its great. Power fantasy, academy, tsundere... What's not to despise (just kidding, nobody hates a tsun)? Difficult to quantify, but the general mood and production somehow belies a genuine... optimism and reveling in the juvenile source? In short, have fun with it. This isn't just going through the typical motions. Other classmates have personality. Dopey contrivances are acknowledged and treated like that by characters instead of transparently handwaved. The show expects us (the audience) to be on board with the silliness and it mostly works. Give it a shot.

... aaaand the money ran out. Noticeable downgrade in production this week, and the next girl/conquest's story was weaker as well. The interactions between Earnest and her new friends were cute and carried the episode, as deadpan girl didn't make much of a character so far. Treading water- will it last?
