Not sure if this thread is gonna catch on, but let's give it a try :>

I'm two episodes from finishing my long-overdue rewatch of "Record of Lodoss War" and I'm amazed at how good this medievil-fantasy adventure-anime still is. The pacing is near perfect, there's no boring downtime, each episodes bring the plot forward. The character designs are SO good, it really is a total difference to nowaday's "where is their nose?!"-designs. And speaking of characters, it really feels great how important EVERY character is. Sure, knight Parn is somewhat in the center of everything, but everyone around him does things of importance, too. Even the thief that would be a slapstick sidekick in any modern version of this story, has a thing or two to say, and later on even becomes important to the main plot.

If there's two things I would criticize, it's that:
1.) while I praise the pacing, sometimes the jump between scenes/episodes can feel a bit too much, like, you need to fill in the gaps in your head. Not enough that it becomes a real issue, but a couple additional scenes here and there wouldn't hurt the story.
2.) Sometimes the ongoing plot is really simple compared to what you'd expect. For one, how quickly Parn and his friends become important to the upper royalty, conversing with King Kasshuk like they're equals, despite Parn being a noname beginner (well, the king knew his father, but still ...). Also, we never see other light elves like Deedo (unless they appear in the final 2 episodes), and since they aren't extinct, it makes you wonder why Deedo or Parn never ask them for help. Considering how capable elves are, they'd be a great help in all. There's more stuff like that, but ultimately it's easy to accept these logic holes in favor of the swift pacing.

I'm glad I finally did the rewatch, it really still is the genre-defining anime that I thought it was for all these years. Anyone who hasn't seen it definitely should do so, if there's an interest in medieval fantasy. Really, what a great anime, and I can't get over how good the art is. I must look up who's responsible for it, because at times it reminds me of "The Last Unicorn"'s art which I also adore.

So far from my first posting. Feel free to comment on my rewatch and/or post about your own recent/current rewatch!

I can't get over how good the art is. I must look up who's responsible for it, because at times it reminds me of "The Last Unicorn"'s art which I also adore.

Izubuchi Yutaka, the creator of RahXephon, illustrated all the original Lodoss designs.

Then unsurprisingly, the anime character art direction is led by Yuuki Nobuteru, who went on to do the anime character designs for Escaflowne, ParaKiss, Terra e, Sakamichi no Apollon, the updated Yamato 2199...but also Maken-ki.

The author of the replays in the RPG magazine stories that became Lodoss, Mizuno Ryou, went on to write Starship Operators (one of my top scifi fleet anime), and Grancrest Senki (which is all over the place at times, but also a great fantasy series. I rewatched half the season in an interseason lull a few months back).

I "recently" rewatched

Ballroom e Youkoso (Chinatsu for the win.)

and

Oofuri

I plan to rewatch Vinland Saga... but I'm not sure if I can squeeze it in before the next season.
After that it's going to be Mushoku.
After that, probably Grimgar.

Nothing too old

I don't really rewatch series, so I am kinda impressed so many people do. I also don't reread anything.

I have rewatched some shows with someone else just so they have someone to watch with, but I've never done it alone.

I don't think I've ever rewatched a series from beginning to end. I might rewatch an episode a few times while something is airing to kill time and if it had cool sequences. The closest I got is maybe watching sequels-that-start-with-a-remake like HxH, where I watch the first bits even though I've already seen that part of the story.

Rewatching stuff helps appreciating how well done some storytelling actually was as it's very likely you'll miss a lot of stuff due to not really paying that much attention (as we all do... or don't). Especially when the show isn't as "in your face" about everything but rather subtle.
It's fun noticing stuff that you missed because you weren't watching out for it.

I would have long ran out of stuff to watch if I didn't rewatch old stuff all the time.

I re-read a ton more than I rewatch. Mostly because releases might be a long distance apart, or I'll let chapters build up before returning to a series...which I promptly restart from the beginning.

I've rewatched Girls Und Panzer and its movies probably three times though.

Also think I'm due for an Iria rewatch soon. Recently found a copy of Venus Wars, so maybe that too (only the art is good there).

The earlier you got into anime in the US, the more you're probably into rewatching, because you could often only get older series on DVD, and they weren't cheap.

I read VNs and LNs a lot, and since I can read Japanese, I'd be hard-pressed to run out of stuff. It kinda sucks though when I read a VN in Japanese and a good English translation comes out. My main reading language is still English, so it is much easier to read that.

VNs are also MUCH longer than anime. A single VN can last 70 to 100 hours, and that has no repeats. If any of you ever want to delve into more VNs, I can give very targeted recommendations.

I'm in the camp where I'm struggling to keep up with things I intended to watch while I balance gaming and work. That sometimes fluctuates though, and at times I find myself having time to watch new series. But then there's also TV series too..
