Maybe a little early to make this thread, but on the other hand it feels like this season went by super fast, and some anime only have 10 episodes, so whatever. Feel free to wait if you feel it's too early :>

I want to use this chance that I hope you guys become a little more active next season. Maybe it's because of the anime airing, but there's a lack of debate. I'm especially shocked that I'm the only one watching "Dance Dance Danseur". Oh well.

https://anichart.net/Summer-2022

----------------------------

What I'm gonna try watching:

- Overlord Season 4 (Oh boy. My enjoyment will hinge on one thing only: Will humans finally achieve a way to fight back against Ainz, or is it just more "monster murdering humans gore porn)
- Hataraku Maou-sama Season 2 (I kinda liked the original, but it's been a long time.)
- Soredemo Ayumu wa yosete kuru (this looks like exactly the kind of cut couple that I missed with Arahen and Komi-san. Looks cute)
- Isekai Meikyuu de Harem wo (eh, could be a quick drop. If the ecchi is there, it might be fun)
- Shoot: Goal to the Future (trailer already looks better than Aoashi. Never heard of the manga)
- Prince of Tennis U-17 (wtf, why did I not hear about this before?! Super hype. <3)
- KJ File (no trailer yet, but genre and synpsis sound intriguing)

Ugh, after all, another rather bad season. Some hopeful shows, but also lots of potential to disappoint.

You mean you're not thrilled by the Made in Abyss sequel ?

This has the potential to actually be an extremely strong season, actually, depending on your particular tastes and how well some of these adaptations end up being. Broaden your horizons a little...

Youkoso Jitsuryoku Shijou Shugi no Kyoushitsu e (Classroom of the Elite) - Finally back after a very long time.

Utawarerumono: Futari no Hakuoro - Same for this. LONG overdue sequel to a sequel series that left us on a cliffhanger! And this one is scheduled for 28 episodes!

Yofukashi no Uta (Call of the Night) - I hear nothing but praise about this manga, but I haven't read it. Pretty strong casting will keep me waiting for the anime first.

Hataraku Maou-sama!! - I'll watch it, but I think I have lowered expectations for this one.

Lucifer and the Biscuit Hammer - Nothing else need be said here. Been so long since I've read the manga, I've forgotten the majority of it and can enjoy it thoroughly except for obnoxious superfans posting on forums about it on the off chance it gets butchered somehow.

Isekai Ojisan - Absolute must watch for me. Stellar casting on top of a fairly accurate art depiction. This series is satire, parody, comedy, gut-punch drama, coming of age, and is also a wholly-sanctioned love letter to SEGA. Yes, all at once. (edit: I should mention that it is a returned isekai. He is back in our world after being isekai'd)

Prima Doll - Feels like a Mahoro/Madoka inspired series, but not sure if it is harmless slice of life, or something a bit more. KEY is behind this, so we'll at least give it a try.

Kinsou no Vermeil: Gakeppuchi Majutsushi wa Saikyou no Yakusai to Mahou Sekai o Tsukisusumu - A title this long, must be at least tried out...but in all seriousness, this does border on shotacon (so is Saikin Yatotta Maid ga Ayashii by the sound of things), so I am wary, but it is about summoning a demoness.

And I'm not even including other things like Made In Abyss, Kanojo, Okarishimasu 2, and more Hestia. None of which I'm going to watch, but they are there.

Lucifer and the Biscuit Hammer (aka Hoshi no Samidare)
Utawarerumono: Futari no Hakuoro (I cannot believe this actually got adapted, really awesome VN/Game)
Danmachi 4th season (Lyuu focused novel will get adapted here)
Made in Abyss 2nd season
Classroom of the Elite 2nd season
Yofukashi no Uta (from Dagashi Kashi author)

The titles above make this summer season the best anime season for me in YEARS.

Man, I wish I were into loli girls like you guys. Guess I'll be in my threads all alone all over again. Well, maybe neflight will post in them half a week after the latest episode aired ;>

Overlord.
Made in Abyss.
Danmachi.
Utawarerumono.
Isekai Yakkyoku.

There seem to be quite a few potential series. Possibly also more than these. I won't trust my chances of successfully watching so many. Maybe I'll end up removing Isekai Yakkyoku from the list since I'm reading the manga anyway. Time will tell.

- Isekai Meikyuu de Harem wo (eh, could be a quick drop. If the ecchi is there, it might be fun)

The ecchi in the manga is straight out porn. No way it's going to be there.

I don't understand how you can look at Ryll's and my list and somehow your takeaway is liking loli.

Something supernatural and sad will happen. Guaranteed.

I'm less convinced of supernatural at least here. It looks like a Steampunk Mahoro/Is The Order a Rabbit.

Mask of Deception/Truth lacks Karura and Ulthuri. The characters are generally aged down, so I can see where the misinterpretation might be made. Leave the rest up to lack of familiarity with the source material.

What about all the other titles??

And loli characters are actually rare and non-sexualized in Utawarerumono, so I don't even get that one.

just saw the latest trailer for "Shoot" - is that a football anime for girls? :/

So much crying and blushing, and hugging and nakedness. And several designs looked very bishounen.

On top of that, animation looks mediocre at best, after being advertised as this old, famous football story, I expected more. Oh well, will give it a try anyway, just had to readjust my expectations.

Lycoris Recoil is pretty interesting as first episodes go. The less you know watching the cold opening, the better.

I'm halfway through episode 1 of Shoot! and I think I'll drop it. Cheap animation and the main characters goes 200% drama in an instant, like, wtf.

Why can't modern sports anime leave all the derivative personal drama out of the story and focus on THE SPORTS?! That's why Tsubasa is still the best football anime, because it's just kids trying their hardest to win their football matches and that's enough. And it's super exciting and fun to watch. sigh

I'll finish watching the episode later, but I doubt things will change.

It also feels like a yaoi fest. Might suit some people, not me.

Because sports series are fujoshi bait, and often written by fujoshi. The genre is a magnet for it. The alternative are dry "love letters" to a sport written by old men.

It's hard to write actually engaging sports series that don't have some other element to them. The majority of the critically acclaimed ones are either Adachi works or from the early 1990s before fujoshi took over the whole genre.

Lycoris Recoil:

What kind of scandal did Shibuya Rin get into to make her resort to becoming an assassin?

Lycoris Recoil:

Close, but not quite. Kousaka Reina swapped bodies with Unmei and her personality inverted.

Reina parts her bangs on her right side, Idol Rin and AssaRin both have unparted bangs. Reina also has trimmed hair on the sides of her face. Idol Rin and AssaRin have full length side hair.

I will concede that AssaRin and Reina have the same eye color.

Kinsou no Vermeil has a strong first episode.

The background art is phenomenal and really paints a mood for the setting. Very good for a new studio with only work assistance and a single hentai for their credits.

Can't go wrong with a succubus female lead whose attire is a dress version of the virgin-killing sweater.

The anime adaptation made a total joke of Isekai Meikyuu de Harem wo. It's understandable since it would be impossible to make it faithful to the original, while still airing/streaming it normally. The original is pretty much vanilla porn, but this anime adaptation actually had far, far stricter censoring than any run of the mill ecchi show, by showing nothing, bleeping any suggestive words, and even censoring the subtitles. It was pretty funny for a single episode, but it'd be a bit much for the duration of the whole series. This is textbook trash isekai, so it doesn't really have much going for it as it is.

Prince of Tennis U-17:

Do we really not have a Prince of Tennis-thread on Gotwoot? Searched showed nothing.

It's a bog standard continuation, basically just gives another excuse to pitch characters against each other. I didn't even know Ryoma had a brother, lol. I also didn't know he was half-American, nor that Tezuka was half-German. Or why are they allowed to play for other countries' teams?

Not much tennis yet. I'm hoping for Atobe doing some dominating, that is all.

Soredemo Ayumu 01:

It feels like a mix of Karakai Jouzu Takagi-san and Kaguya. However, I'm not sure I can stomach a whole season of such serene, quiet episodes. It wasn't bad, though. Although they're already so close, they might as well just confess. She literally used the term "aiaigasa" at the end, which afaik is used in a romantic context only.

I'm not going to watch/read anything anymore from that author, Yamamoto Souichirou. I've had enough of his much promise but zero development approach he's so dedicated to.

Prima Doll is a bit of Gochuumon wa Usagi Desu ka, but since it is KEY series, it's also a lot of Eve no Jikan, Mahoro, and Violet Evergarden all rolled together. I like the steampunk aesthetic, and the mysterious nature of what the reactivated automata (dolls) did beforehand, hinting that they were heavily involved in some nasty war stuff.

Big gloopy robot tears (I also don't understand why they eat either, they have their steampunk backpacks).

The character designs are very pretty. KEY has upped their game.

Kuro no Shoukanshi ep 1:

The most generic isekai ever. Honestly, it's sad how authors have given up entirely on creating heroes that don't look like ... THAT.

Also, I don't get it: WHY is this an isekai?! The hero even loses his memory from before reincarnating! There'd be no difference if he was just someone living in a fantasy world ... except then he'd have an interesting background at least from where he grew up and such.

What makes this so frustrating is that it's not like the isekai genre has exhausted all ideas. Fuck, it hasn't even begun! But instead of trying different isekai approaches, we keep getting "handsome, gay Kirito-alike materializes in generic fantasy world and helps everybody because OF COURSE he's a moral person!". B-ooooooooooooooooooring.

There is more variety in the isekai series out there, but quite often the super generic ones get animated.

So to everyone: Any potential GREAT anime candidates already? Only non-sequels though.

For me, Isekai Ojisan is a standout.

Too soon to say on any of the others, we're still two weeks away from the 3 episode test!

Prince of Tennis U-17 episode 2:

Alright, if this were a new franchise I'd drop it. There's really nothing to talk about here, it's a hollow "let's pitch all the fan favourites against each other" again, even if it makes not sense why only team Japan has 20 or so players but all other teams have 6, lol. I hope the tennis matches in this episodes only were that boring because it was exhibition matches, ugh. Doesn't deserve its own thread.

I didn't know the franchise, only read the titles over the years with anime/manga dating from pre internet era.
But honestly these 2 eps are pure garbage in every department.
Worse being art and animation. It feels like we get Hokuto no Ken original anime characters with tenis apparel, and we get the same animation technique from that era with everything still and stiff. Story/scenario makes no sense, players change national teams over they like.
I have low requirements but that anime still manages to go lower than that...

LOL, this is a very bad place to start this franchise, David :D Pls start from the beginning, it's quite fun then. I rewatched the whole series 2-3 times. But the power level at the end of the regular anime was ... "full" already, and then they overdid it. U-17 is just dumb "dragon ball characters blasting their iconic attacks against each other and Goku winning at the end" level bs.

Ouch. That's me moment you decide to drop a show that was already extremely mediocre and generic.
Even though the fights seem to be pretty fun
