Maybe he just thinks it cost too much energy because it cost 6th too much energy. They are making it a point that Deku has better compatibility and longevity than the previous users.

Yeah it made no sense to say that they're using it too much when it had no obvious adverse effects.
That said, it also had no obvious positives either. Aside from hiding Midorya from the police, there wasn't any obvious benefits to it during the fight.

I'm glad they explained Dabi's white hair discrepancy vs fire quirk. That was really bugging me.

Despite how far he's come, Deku can only pull off 45% power. He's got a long way to go. They're right in terms off all his powers being a tool, because against actual powerhouses, the only thing you've got is a the brute force 100% smash.

Episode 134:

"Lady Nagant needs first aid"

No, she fucking needs a coffin, because she had a MASSIVE explosion happen INSIDE her body.

God, why is the writer of this story so devoid of any balls? :/ I was already upset that Deku wanted to save her (can't let a hot female villain die, huh), then I was positively surprised when cracks appeared on her face and All for One appeared. Then the explosion happened. And then her body was still fine, except brown and grey. Sigh.

This is just so bad. So, so bad.

All that said, her design is kick ass.

On the other hand, from a lore perspective.. how exactly does one plant a "breach of contract" thing inside someone? Assuming it's an application of AFO, the quick "Bomb" was planted in her to set off should she breach contract. If "Bomb" was a quirk then you'd expect a level of survivability for the user.

I don't really understand Deku's new power. It doesn't help they didn't translate the name...

Buffalobiian
Sun, 02-26-2023, 06:32 AM
Repeated movements store up kinetic energy for when you wish to use it.

So I punch the air multiple times to "bank" up punching power, then use it in a big ass punch. The visual effects didn't always correspond with its charging status - like when Deku was supposedly moving his legs in midair and gained charge, he wasn't visually charged.

DarthEnderX
Sun, 02-26-2023, 11:04 AM
So like that guy in HxH who every time he pumps his fist, his punch power multiplies.

Buffalobiian
Sun, 02-26-2023, 12:03 PM
Phinks the blond Spider who winds his arm up to increase punching power?

Essentially yes. Aside from the fact that he rotates his shoulders to "wind power" while Deku actually has to perform the relevant action, yes.

Episode 135:

- I feel like at least one whole season was skipped. wtf

- it's SOOO obvious that the author read Berserk and wanted Deku to look like he's wearing a version of the Berserker-armor :D Unfortunately, I don't buy Deku's act.

What do you mean Deku's act? It makes sense why he acts this way.

He's a whimp. And now he's acting like "I'm BATMAN". The moment he takes of the mask and talks to his friends, he'll revert to whimp status instantly, so I can't take his tough guy-act seriously ^^

Buffalobiian
Sat, 03-04-2023, 06:41 PM
I didn't get the feeling that he's batman. He's always been a wimp.

He's just got a hero complex, now has the power to back it up, but is burning out nonetheless because his body can't keep up with the responsibility that everybody has placed on him (including himself).

It's similar to every other "I can't rely on my friends or else I'll hurt them" anime scenario, except this one's kind of baked into his character from the start.

I love it. It's by far the coolest version of him.

I like that he is getting deeper into his train of thought, fueled by hatred.
It would have been even better if he wouldn't collapse from exhaustion and slither through the streets like a slug due to it, because that just makes him look weak - and it's kinda annoying when he manages to switch out of it and fight like a maniac even though he can barely walk anymore.

DarthEnderX

I love it. It's by far the coolest version of him.I think it's dumb that his costume is literally becoming monstrous. He looks like a FNAF villain now. And battle damage doesn't explain all the changes.

Deku gettin' raggedy feels needless (if he hasn't slept, you know he hasn't bathed; homeless looking people don't put anyone at ease...), but it is forgivable if we are to buy into his infinite justice syndrome that is pushing him to the brink. Also sad to see him pull away from All-Might. Come to think of it, for a complete non-combatant, he is surprisingly involved with the story and has quite a bit of screen time, still.

-I was going to say that their efforts to stop Deku were ad hoc and lacked any real synergy, but then they pulled the music out and did the roller coaster launcher.

-It still didn't hit as hard as Bakugo giving a level headed apology though. We knew that guy was supposed to be smart and intuitive, but when he does it without yelling (and isn't in battle) he sounds pretty cool.. even though he's been bullying Deku for years.

-lol at Todoroki summoning an giant wall of ice for Deku to just break his neck crashing into. That was brutal.

Yeah, there really needed to be a scene giving all these people shit. "OK, then DON'T stay here, guys. Go outside and wait for Shigaraki to kill you. Or maybe make you his slaves. Or WE leave, if you think you're fine here inside UA. But if you think we have ANY obligation to protect you, no matter what, you're WRONG. ALL the shit that's been happening is the VILLAINS fault. WE are risking our LIVES to fight back. And you treat us, and especially the most hard-working hero here, like SHIT. TOUCH SOME GRASS, you FUCKING, self-centered ASSHOLES."

A reminder that these people aren't quirkless little lambs for the most part. They all have quirks, they just don't / can't fight.

That pisses me off, perhaps even more than the fact that no one there is using their brains.

As for the underground subway system, I don't see how that allows you to escape Decay unless you outrun it (which is only temporary) or you levitate. Subways still have contact points.

A reminder that these people aren't quirkless little lambs for the most part. They all have quirks, they just don't / can't fight. In their defense, not every quirk is useful for fighting.

Like, Deku's mom's power is levitating small objects.

Buffalobiian
Mon, 03-20-2023, 02:05 AM
Yeah, that's why can't fight is in there. Some quirks aren't suited for being front-liners, I agree.

I mentioned the reminder because we often don't see non-heroes use their quirks often in society to the point where they behave like they're quirkless in every day activities. I know if that if I could levitate small objects I'd be levitating the shit out of everything for convenience. I'm going to guess that from a story-perspective it's unnecessary and puts extra burden on the artists to keep track of and draw too many powers.

That said, thinking about this more, even if they were quirkless that wouldn't be an issue. Everyone contributes during a war even as non-combatants.

DarthEnderX
Mon, 03-20-2023, 02:48 AM
I know if that if I could levitate small objects I'd be levitating the shit out of everything for convenience. I mean, they've shown her doing it while she cleans the house. So I guess maybe she does.

Also, quirks wear you out. So even a relatively weak quirk may not be worth using constantly for stuff you don't need.

Everyone contributes during a war even as non-combatants.Well that's just not the case. Civilians just give up or hide all the time when war moves through their area. Sure, some fight back, but most people don't.

Oops, forgot to mention Stain. Yeah, he stole the episode by serving dark justice. A lot of the dialogue or commentary in MhA can start to blend together after a while, but Stain's tirades grab attention.

Off topic, but pertinent to previous episodes, does anyone know of a shounen MC that cries as much (or as often) as deku? I was thinking about what MhA does to differentiate itself from the herd, and Izuku's waterworks was one of the first things that came to mind. Boy just cries at... almost everything. Things have been bad-getting-worse for two seasons now, so I don't blame him per say, but the story is constructed in a way to give Deku plenty of sad points every other episode and the levity sections don't have much impact to counterbalance it.

While that's not a bad thing, after a while, it wears down the audience and our sympathy, eroded, ceases to identify with the character and he reverts to being the center of a 'story' that has now has some pacing issues. Glad they ended the season on a hype shot.

Buffalobiian

That was a pretty fun quirk. The "two rules" thing seems to apply loosely, because she's controlling both lasers and air right now. That is, unless she turned her self-buff off, in which case her muscles aren't "inflated" like All Might's but are actually real.

I mean, he get's hurt. He just regenerates.

But to what degree he gets hurt is entirely arbitrary. He got hit with LASERS and his body didn't get torn apart. Why should I beleve missiles will do more damage? And when that fails, what's next? At this point I believe he'd even survive getting nuked. So all the fighting boils down to: he's getting pushed around until the writer decides: NOW.

Still hate how 'tough' Shigaraki's body is, making no sense.

Kind of a huge retcon, if you think about it: the author made Shigaraki so overpowered that he had to make up an All for One-fan who served to bring Shigaraki down to a level where the established heroes have a fighting chance again.

Why did thief think he was a side character? Makes no sense. He can steal and use anyone's quirk.

He has a 5min window, and requires physical contact to borrow the quirk. That makes his use rather unpredictable and unreliable if the subject did not consent.

If the subject did consent, then you'd be better off having the subject be the hero instead since they know how to use their quirk plus do not have a time constraint.

What we've seen here is a pretty niche scenario where he's:

-accessed a prisoner's quirk without consent.
-had time to train with it to utilize it.
-is able to apply it within his 5min time frame (unless he was also touching Teleport while he used it)
-Also was using a crippled hero's quirk with his consent, in a stationary manner.

Can't disagree with that one.

The degree to which this show keeps trying to humanize these complete psychopaths is ridiculous.

Like, some of them have a legitimate grievance. But the idea that the response to that grievance is mass murder is...disproportionate, to say the least.

I just don't find these bs battles interesting or even exciting.

Sound girl should have been killed, Falco should have been severely injured, like, half his beak ripped off or something. Hawk should have died. And Allforone should have died by being burnt by the sun.

But no, always some bs. And I hate how none of the students ever die. "It's shounen" - fuck off.

Shigaraki having some random "mass controll object"-skill now that's just another version of Gara's sand control or Byakuya's sakura leaves bankai is so lame. Putting thousands of hands onto each other, aha. And why does he not destroy Bakugo when he touched him?

Oh, I forgot the biggest asspull this episode: The "will of the stolen quirks" stopping Allforone from defending himself. Sigh. I don't care about any explanations, that was pure bs.

That was always the case though. If your power was physical, it couldn't be cancelled. So if your power was just "I'm a turtle" then Eraser couldn't make your body human again.

All abilities are supposed to be physical.

Bakugo's supposed to have explosive power from using his sweat, but that strains his body. Speed class-rep person has physical adaptations for his thrusters etc. The whole idea was that this was supposed to be genetic.

Being an animorph screws up the rules a bit but your venom would presumably not work.

They've combined "magical abilities" like Blue Jeanist controlling fibres, and physical ones etc, but it's all supposed to be physiological in nature - which in tern mean they're physical.

It's hard to apply Eraser Head's ability to animorphs because it feels like "being a turtle" is an enhancement that's already done and doesn't require further input. You'd feel like it should erase any active buffs like "I can regrow all my limbs/tails" or "I produce silk", if Eraser Head's ability is to do anything at all against quirks (again due to the supposed physiological nature of it).

As for new shows, Karasu wa Aruji wo Erabanai is good.

But your complaints are just dumb. "Why are you complaining about a show you watched 100 episodes of?". Most people complain about stuff the consume regularily for various reasons. In my case it'S the undying hope that these anime might eventually get better. In regards to this week's episode of BnHA: If I knew Bakugo was actually dead, it'd be a really emotional moment. But because of how non-consequential this anime has been, there's a 99% chance that he'll survive, either by simply resting or by some bs healing ability. And that sucks. Miruko's power also is just nonsensical. It'd be okay if she SURVIVED, but no, she's fighting at full power after losing 3 limbs, come on.

What annoyed me the most, however, (well, on par with Bakugo surviving) is how All for One couldn't even kill that one female hero he stole a quirk from. He just had to snap her neck there.

Miruko's pretty badass. She's losing limbs all over the place and has a pretty one-dimensional superpower, but she just goes in kicking anyway. Every Luna-Arc she lands feels deserved.

It looks like Ninja is suturing the heart, but that's what Jeanist did before, so what exactly is Ninja doing? He's doing CPR, but Jeanist can do that too. I thought Ninja was replacing the heart that was destroyed, but it looks more like it was just pierced.

As for replacing the existing blood that was lost, well there's not much you can do about that with their current powers. If anything I thought the transforming dude was going to morph a heart for Bakugo.

Toya having a flaming thing on his chest didn't make that much sense. Phosphor was a move that mixed both hot/cold aspects of him together so that he could output both at the same time (with the end result being that one move was for offensive damage towards enemies, and the other move was to counter the negative effects it'd have on his body).

Toya was deemed a failure because despite his lineage, his power ended up being super-fire that was even more self-immolating than Endeavour's. Toya also never demonstrated any notable ice powers to balance this. That means Toya's "Phosphor" move makes no sense.

Episode 151:

I mean, the "hero" is dominating the whole episode. And I still don't believe that Bakugo will die and now I even have doubts that the guy trying to heal Bakugo's heart will die either.

This is all so boring, really the worst of the "big" shounen-anime. The end was especially bad, with the "I want to save that kid" bs. If Deku again risks everyone's life only to save Shigaraki, fuck all. Fuck treating Shigaraki and All for One as if only the latter is evil. Shigaraki, even without All for One, is a murderous evil villain.

And now we'll have to suffer next week through some side event, who even cares about the heteromorphs' fight, lol?

PS: I have a visceral reaction to Toga's face. It makes me want to punch something so hard. Worst character ever and she should long be dead.

I did like how Shigaraki was like "Giving it our all?! You're negating all my powers and blocking all my teammates! You cheating dick!"

Yeah, and he is absolutely right about it. For all the overpowering Deku, they wouldn't be able to defeat his regular-ass power. Kinda disappointing.

I got hot eyes at the build-up of that final punch though. The music is lit.

It's kind of like Fairy Tail. The story, power levels or fight logic don't always make sense, but a killer OST and a little shounen pep talk goes a long way to making things feel cool in the moment.

Hero Academia has one or two blood-pumping battle tracks. Ones that have several would be Fairy Tail, Attack on Titan and Initial D.

-------

Watching the fight a second time though, I did find Shigaraki's approach amusing. His trying to figure out Deku's timing - then Deku introducing a delay and also bringing out new moves feels like when I play against DS-like bosses - with Deku being the boss.

Well, this is the episode where all that "sparing the villains" theming comes home to roost.

So I'm pretty sure Stained will finally show up again soon. Which is the thing I'm most interested in.

Of course, the little girl is a more capable hacker than the adult villain, sure. :/

And I hate these clones, because 100% will they all vanish when some "core" is destroyed. lame.

Can we have a shounen-anime where the villains win, at least for once? I hate all the heroes, lol. They're just given new powers and shit, I'm way more concerned with how All for One can survive this, lol.

I'm way more concerned with how All for One can survive this, lol.I assume he just has to complete his transfer to Shigaraki. The reversal drug shouldn't follow him to another body.

Doubt that. After all, Shigaraki must be save so he can become a "good guy" ... after murdering countless people ...

I was taken aback at the random hot weatherwoman in the American news report. I'm all for fanservice. I can't figure out if it was actually a joke or not. She's holding a purse and all during it lol. Japan does have their own version of this but it goes down the "cute" pathway. I'm going to guess it's just taking inspiration from the Mexicans.

I never realised Shoji had such a cool voice, probably mostly due to his limited screentime before this.

I forgot about Gentle, and even when he came back I couldn't remember his power.

The sniper girl's always been pretty cool.

I don't get it. Why did Mina's skin turn white? I rewatched the scene several times, there's no hint. I ASSUME something is making her lose her quirk, but I don't know what.
