Ushio thinks that his father's talk of an ancient ancestor impaling a demon on a temple altar stone with the legendary Beast Spear is nuts, but when he finds the monster in his own basement, Ushio has to take another look at the family legend! To save his friends and family from the invading spirits, Ushio is forced to release Tora from his captivity. But will the creature prove to be worse than the curse?

Episode 1 is out!
---------------------------

Artstyle is a bit on the retro side of the anime spectrum, but the simplicity of the story setup and the rash nature of the hero reminded me a lot of Hunter X Hunter. Definitely one of the better summer season anime so far. Looking forward to ep 2.

Hmm, I remember watching an ep or two of this from years back. It was pretty goofy from memory. I'll check it out.

Damn, the MC is uglier than Rock Lee and Might Guy combined. That's quite an achievement already.

Even if you combine water with water, it's still water.

MC and demon are both ugly. In the first ep, everything is set. I guess this is your basic shounen action/humor show.I wonder if it's worth my time

man, i really didnt like all the coincidences that prevented Tora from eating humans. They obviously want to build him up as a good character, who can exist next to Ushio. But that was aweful to watch. All those excuses to not eat people. And then Inoue only survives because the 5 flying heads appear just when Tora was about to murder her. Meh. If the goal is to make Tora a good character, it would have been better if Ushio had never allowed this demon to run away and forced him to stay with him, so he can watch over him. Thus slowly growing less harmful. Well, I guess I cant expect that much reason from this anime.

Besides that, it´s still an enjoyable show. One monster per week, but it doesn´t feel formulaic, yet.

episode 6 is out
------------------

Nobody else watching this? Despite featuring one new monster every week, it doesn´t yet feel formulaic. Each episode introduces some new developments, i.e. Tora asking for Ushio´s help this week and them teaming up to defeat the Ayakashi. No idea where the greater story is going, but definitely an enjoyable anime so far.

Also, Nakamura Asako was ridiculously hot in this episode. I think her body to legs-ratio was up there with good old Sailor Moon lol

Good old one piece.

Beast Spear carries Ushio to Tora team like a boss.

I really like how this series the episodes are connected to one another, yet they can manage to keep the monster of the week (at least so far) structure.

Anyways, episode 7 was quite good, expanding the world and mythology.

The latest episode was fantastic. The longer this goes on, the more I´m reminded of Hunter X Hunter, which is a good thing :D

The whole priest organization thing really opens up lots of room for an epic story. The goofy dad suddenly fighting on par with Tora is such a clichee, but still awesome moment, typical for shounen anime. And then the hero finally leaves on a journey. Perfect.

If they can now move away from "monster of the week" and have multi-episode spanning arcs, this could become really great.

Haha, now bring on all the butthurt boys who trained their ass off for nothing xD

I'll miss Ushio's two friends.

I'll miss Ushio's two friends.

That was my first thought as well. Maybe they'll tag along? Guess it'll depend on how long he's travelling.

I'd like to see Ushio getting more powerful independently from the spear.

Was also disappointed in his performance once the monks showed up. He was taken down too easily, and for some reason he didn't activate the spear which made no sense to me.

The spear is supposed to only hurt beasts. During the first or second episode they showed it passing through someone. Using that logic, the spear doesn't do anything against humans.

Well, the spear also enhances his physical attributes so he need not the spear itself to stab them. Also, in that same episode he used the Beast-Mode to attack his Dad (break his weapon).

Yes. The whole spear-against-beast thing hasn't been consistent, unless it's "I'll pass through people if it wants to".

Wow, episode 8 was incredibly bad. Terrible, and dumb as fuck. What a let down after a few strong episodes.

One of the worst episodes I've ever seen.

While I did think that Juuro smiling happily ever after was a bit too easy, having him die via suicide was a little off as well. It deviated from my expectation that Juuro was possessed or corrupted by some big bad phenomenon that was supposed to happen now that the spear's been plucked.

Humans are pretty stupid sometimes, I have to agree. Look, that thing has fangs and claws - let's stone it!

Aaand, we're back on track again.

My hypothesis is that the barrier was created to keep the Hakumen in. The youkai are just dumb when it comes to stuff.

And here I thought "Damn, the voice they chose for the spear sounds awfully similar to Tora's"..

Anyway, it looks like the good episodes are back.

Watching Ushio and Tora each respectively showing those Successors down was hugely satisfying. The guy in particular, mainly for what was equivalent to torture. The girl turning out to be rather cute has nothing to do with anything.

And this was my face when Ushio kept talking about saving women from their crying:

I'm certainly not as empathetic, but I also find that view rather condescending towards women.

I enjoyed the fanservice, but getting naked was also unnecessary, even if it's the whole spiritual purity thing.

Nothing escapes harem huh? Well at least the lead is clear. I'm not sure why Mayuko is so easy to give Ushio up to Asako if she likes him as well. Well at least there's a clear winner here, even if nothing will come from it (like most).

HS - Episode 20 (http://www.nyaa.se/?page=download&tid=755995)

----------------------------------

The last two episodes have been a bit funny.

-Firstly, it's not okay to display the spear in the past because it wasn't forged then, but Ushio was cool to talk to people despite not having been born yet.

-Jie Mei and his brother never had direct descendants. Ushio's friend looking like her is less symbolic now.

-If Jie Mei and time-travelling-youkai knew the truth behind Hakumen's seal they could have just disclosed it.

-If the spear already had a sacrifice (or two), there was no real reason for it to devour souls of the wielder. It wasn't a requirement by the dark magic he spoke of, and her certainly didn't wish anybody ill will while he forged. And even if all of that made sense, it should have left Ushio alone because of who he is.

Or are we saying that this isn't a closed-loop time paradox, and that sending Ushio back was actually intended to make him compatible with the spear, not just to educate him?

Shit's weird.

Aaand, more leg again :P

Last week's episode felt like a side chapter. This week's one could have been that too, or actually filler. I don't mind either way since it's extra padding and fun stuff before the series takes a 3 month break.

You can tell that Asako is way more of an "Ushio" than Mayuko is.

Ushio to Tora - END.

Overall I liked this. The near-end segments where Ushio became mentally unstable were irritating to watch, but this is a good old fashion fun.
