"To better reflect the high level of integration among Adobe's creative professional applications, "CS" is the new version denominator for Adobe's professional design and layout tools. For example, Photoshop CS is the new, full-upgrade version of Photoshop (instead of Photoshop 8.0)."

is it recommended to get PS8 or this would have to be a choice based on personal preference. I got 7 not too long ago and would like to know if it would be beneficial to get 8. I'm not a hardcore PS user as i've just began to get into the program but i'd like to find out if this new version would make certain things easier.

8 is just a minor upgrade. Ive heard from friends that they even got rid of a few good features like the fill delete apparently.

i had the install for a few weeks or so, but never got around to trying it yet. I heard from someone that when they tried a copy of PS8 that they downloaded, it deleted some of their psd files http://www.gotwoot.net/forum/html/emoticons/dry.gif

I use photoshop 8 (CS) now. Changes aren't that noticable for 'general' use resizing slicing adding effects etc. Maybe profesionals would notice other bit settings and more color settings.
Also it had a new and improved 'activation' scheme which has been hacked.
I haven't had ANY problems at all with photoshop CS it wasn't deleting any files although that was a bit of a problem because it left photoshop 7 just sitting there. Without asking for a removal so I had dat deleted manually.
Thus far I like what creative studio brought... 2 cd's with most adobe products on it including software for writing pfd's and it also includes macro's for word to go from .doc to .pdf. Which I think is pretty cool http://www.gotwoot.net/forum/html/emoticons/wink.gif
