She laments the fact she has never been on a raid, yet she won't participate even when invited! Why?
She got invited to raid with someone? When did that happen, I missed that.
Very boring episode. As much as I like the setting, this show is really dull and slow (story progression wise) most of the time. It feels like they are celebrating a different festival each episode..

im pretty sure that guy is one of those elite forces of the people of the land, forgot the name. those that nobody knows why they were absend all this time. in combination with the princess´ revealed fake-friendliness, it, imo, paints an upcoming plot line where the people of the land begin to rebel against the perceived dominance of the adventurers.

Lenessia is genuine.
Her fakeness is part of being nobility. You have to literally tell someone you're happy/sad because they won't believe whatever face you put on.
She's never had real friends, so she's incredibly overwhelmed by the fact that the Akiba Adventurers are so open, warm, and honest. She's used to some fawning noble that smiles to her face while thinking she's a dead fish or a bore. That's why Crusty throws her off, he can see through her bullshit. She's lazy and cowardly, but always has to show a strong face and a dignified, pleasant, happy demeanor. Even if other people see through her, they pretend they don't.
Lenessia struggles to tell how they are feeling because they don't outright describe their feelings, they wear them on their faces (everyone) or in body language (Akatsuki). She's used to everyone constantly appearing polite or even-handed. The adventurers she always hangs out with hide nothing, and that unnerves and drains her.

were those bubbles at the end Akatsuki dying or did she awaken her teachings power?
Anyway, I loved the expression on Sou´s face during the whole episode. Love these 180°-changes in character behavior.
But I hate, hate, hate how unfocused these past two episodes were. Almost nothing happens, because the episode is split into tiny bits. Can we please see how Shiroe is doing the raid? Can we then see the fight against the murderer? Can we then deal with Lenessia´s emo phase? It´s Game of Thrones season 3 all over again. Jumpy, jumpy, jumpy. sigh
Biggest lol of the ep: When Akatsuki was talking about Lenessia´s tiny shoulders. Yeah, there´s not a single living being in this game that has tinier shoulders than Akatsuki.

Looks like nothing is going as planned right now. Shiroe's raid team seemed to have found an enemy no easier than this berserk royal guard terrorising the streets of Akiba. Quite interesting the same NPC clan Shiroe tried to deal with turned out to be controlling the royal guards as well. Quite a powerhouse, and shady as hell. I don't get why the other royal guards don't go after this single murderous one, though. Perhaps they simply don't want to?
Lenessia missing Crusty was nice, with her continuous emo scenes getting so boring of late.

Royal guards are not designed to fight each other I guess. So that bug, or game evolution can't be easily countered yet. Unless someone finds another bug/evolution they can exploit. Like an adventurer dressing a royal guard armor...

Pretty stupid that they didn't draw him out where the entire clan can fight him. The whole point was stacking two healers on each patrol team to stall so that there's enough time to for the "main force" to get there, which I assumed wasn't just Sou. Each patrol team was about 6, and there's at least 60 people in the clan, so there should be at least 20 healers. There should have been 20 healers backing Sou and akatsuki up, and they should have drawn the guy out to an open space so the remaining 40 members can attack as well. So stupid, absolutely no teamwork. Kakashi would send all these guys back to genin camp.

Best twist at this point is dying once means the actual person being permanently dead and being replaced by an NPC copy.
@Lelouch - The enemy's HP bar wasn't moving. Having everyone fight him means everyone dying. Souji stayed because he knew that and wanted his allies to escape.

I'm guessing the reason why the Royal Guards aren't coming out is the same reason that they haven't been deploying since the last World Event happened. They're either forbidden to, or they don't want to. Perhaps the person who stole the guard armour isn't even a guard himself.
I can't wait for Akatsuki to unlock herself. It seems like the Teachings are simply epiphanies from training, just like new inventions from research.
What they also need is a spell that removes all buffs from an enemy - either targeted or AoE.
Xelbair
Sun, 11-02-2014, 07:36 AM
Maybe the reason that royal guards aren't deploying is either this:
1) they are fighting a people of the land and guards only stop adventurers from fighting
or this:
2) Guy wears their armor so Guards recognize it as a adventurer vs Guard fight.
or this
3) no money for Kunie clan to operate it - Akihabara is behind on upkeep.
Buffalobiian

However, none of those reasons can address why no Royal Guards have been deployed since the last world event at all. We do however have confirmation that the armours are functional and are in the possession of the Kunie Clan.

I think he is reffering to the orc invasion. But the NPC's that didn't show up there were the Izumo Knights if I am not mistaken. Do correct me. Been a while since I've watched that part. The Royal Guards are for for stopping PvP inside of the city. Izumo Knights were Elite NPC's that fought for NPC's.

I imagine the text to be something like "A powerful, cursed scythe that has brought disaster upon all its masters."
Krusty triggered the trap card by saying he was bored.
Overall I wasn't too impressed by this episode though, just happy we're at least moving Akatsuki forward so we won't have to cover similar ground again.

Sat, 11-08-2014, 11:26 AM
The world changes were quite interesting, especially the flavour text. I guess it makes an adventurer think twice before starting to use a weapon or armor that has anything suspicious in the text, unless he's of such predisposition that it would suit the character. An obviously generally decent-minded player shouldn't then try to use some nasty, cursed weapon obviously meant for the evil chaotic types. That ought to make treasure hunting a lot more interesting.
I'm not yet sure what to think about this whole Akatsuki stuff. To be honest it feels like it has no concrete substance, but is more like girl-to-girl blah blah talk, meant to make Akatsuki more like a normal, social girl instead a ninja who barely talks to anybody but her master. Having friends is great, yeah, but especially with this ongoing world change, these folks will sooner or later need to turn role playing into reality.

I actually don't like all of the focus on Akatsuki's problems. I'd rather have it focus on more the raid.
But what I did find interesting is what we saw when she was dead. Did she see fragments of herself in real time? If so, that means the game is basically living it's own life with the people inside of it thinking they are real while they are not.

It sounds that way, but really we've only learned of 2, and both are held by guild masters. All the lower thugs know about it because their masters aren't selfish assholes, but they can't do anything about gaining it. That's why everyone can talk to Akatsuki about them, but it's not like everyone has one. Most people training there are probably from a fighting guild of some sort, so our perspective is skewed there in terms of the common knowledge or access to Teachings.
It was a big deal back ages ago when Shiroe left to fight, but it's been some time now.

why is everybody stronger in battle than akatsuki?
Because they are? In the first place Akatsuki is an assassin, so she shouldn't be stronger on the open field than more regular fighting classes. Her strength would be, surprise surprise, striking from the shadows when the opponent expects it the least. Assassins apparently can one-hit kill very high level opponents when they pull it off successfully. But to balance it out, they shouldn't be able to beat a tank face to face in a fair fight. This is also the problem I had with this training: While it no doubt otherwise was useful for Akatsuki, it shouldn't be the easiest way for her to achieve a Teaching, because nothing she did here would grant her an assassin's Teaching, and one would think that's what an assassin ought to gain first and the easiest.
In the second place Akatsuki really hasn't been doing much fighting during the time the players have been trapped in this world. Not nearly as much as the fighting guilds folks who have been slaying monsters left and right, raiding bosses and slaying goblin armies. Akatsuki only wants to stick close to Shiroe and Shiroe wants to weave his nefarious plans in the shadows. Like I said earlier, now that Shiroe purposefully left Akatsuki behind, she should have seized the opportunity and joined some gang temporarily to go out on raids and whatnot. Instead she was drinking tea and eating cakes with the princess. That only makes her fat, not strong.

You´d have a point ... if it weren´t for everybody spotting Akatsuki spying on them from a hundred meters afar. :/
Also, while assassins´ surely have their specific advantages and disadvantages, the extreme you´re drafting here would mean that no assassin could ever hope to be part of a raid. After all, what he´s gonna do against a giant monster? There´s no room for sneak attacks. It´s about dealing damage, setting up buffs/debuffs and healing. An assassin certainly isn´t supposed to do the latter two. So Ill say that you´re underselling her class´ fighting capabilities.

I may have mentioned this before, but if not here it is: I don't think spying for real on your friends is a good idea. Sit there and observe so you don't disrupt, but going into full deception mode is asking for trouble.

Sun, 11-16-2014, 04:28 AM
Nah, it's not nearly as bad as that. Some have spotted her now, but that's because they weren't preoccupied with anything. However, whether it's a monster, an NPC, or a player, if they are fully concentrating on something else, like opponents openly in front of them, Akatsuki's various skills would allow her to sneak behind them and deliver a devastating blow. I'd say she would be a very nice addition to a raid team precisely because of that: In a very small group it might be troublesome to keep even just a single member in the reserve until it's the right time to strike, but a raid team is larger and the others can keep the opponent busy in the mean time. After the first strike it might further nicely divert the opponent's attention if they are wary of surprise strikes from behind. Of course if a small group is led by a glasses villain like Shiroe, it's a different thing.
I'm not selling her short. She's doing it all by herself, forgetting what she is and isn't.

I was talking about actual fighting skill, like moving, jumping, dodging, hitting, evading, etc.. Not mere stats, which I think would be/is pretty insulting towards Akatsuki. "You´re only good for your bonus stats that are good under certain circumstances". She deserves better than that.

I'm sure she can defeat sufficiently lower level monsters, NPCs, and even players just fine in any manner of an open fight. That wasn't the point. A wizard won't get far trying to crack a fighter's skull with his staff, he has to use his spells to fry the fighter. An assassin similarly can't compete in sheer strength with a fighter, she needs to use the skills and methods granted by her class. It's exceedingly weird to call that insulting. What you are saying is that an assassin should be just as powerful in an open fight as a regular fighting class, but in addition to that they would also have the assassin's special skills and techniques as a free extra. Now that would be totally unfair.

im saying that in a game that has raids and allows pvp, every class should have a winning chance against each other in an open battle. It´s about making the best use of your class´ ability to win. That´s why warrior/barbar classes are often referred to as noob classes, since they dont require as much thought when it comes to such battles, being more "in your face".

Considering this story has tried to show right from the beginning the benefits, no, the absolute necessity of team based fighting and adventuring style (to the point of utter boredom like the Minori eps of the first season), I'm not sure how to respond to your post. Perhaps you are watching the wrong show if you think every class should have an equal chance against every other class in PvP (or every sort of a monster)? Because clearly what you are describing doesn't apply at all to Elder Tale, or the world it's developing into.

Just to add to what Kraco said, Shiroe has mentioned it before that his class can't do anything on his own since he's a support class and in the same vein a healer should also have problems in pvp. As for the fights, Nazuna was part of the Tea group as Shiroe so it's hardly surprising that she would be stronger than Akatsuki, the other battle was 2 vs 1 another practicing tactics against a bigger opponent and finally against Rieze one of the top players in DDD.

It's possible we don't have all the facts, but I'd think they wanted to have the operation underway as soon as possible because the random murderer himself wouldn't wait. It looks like Lenessia was only talking with the Kunie dude when the battle had already started. It could be they also wanted the murderous bastard to stick around and not try to flee when he was freed of his magic and thus the bothersome abilities. In the end the fact they did it this way also granted more experience to all the participants. Akatsuki even unlocked her first teaching.
Happy that Akatsuki finally got her teaching, although it still bothers me that apparently really everybody else already had a teaching. This is bs.
Why? She hasn't been in any really serious, long fights before this, let alone a raid. The teachings would be worthless if one gained them by drinking tea with a princess. The others probably had more stressful incidents under their belts. Although I suppose there could be teachings related to non-combat classes/skills that one could unlock by whatever methods. For all we know Nyanta already has an Iron Chef teaching unlocked...
Akatsuki's development pleases me even though I can't with any honesty call this arc good. The teaching aside, I like what this did to her personality. The socially inept Akatsuki was cute her own way, but from what I can see, this new, more forward Akatsuki also has considerable charm when she's awkwardly trying to express herself and socialise.
MFauli

Nah, I thought it was bs because I had expected teachings to be for the major leaders only, like, whatshisname-ladykiller boy, or Shiroe, or any of the roundtable members. Not aaaaall their underlings, too. So it felt odd to have the super-competent, skilled Akatsuki to be the one to not have it, yet.
Btw. just when it was established that the explanation text of items is of significance, the blacksmith girl edited the text so it says its weilder is "quiet and socially inept". Super competent Akatsuki? It took her a full season and a third of the second season to pull off her first major fight and her first raid (or something like it). I dunno why anybody would call her super competent. She seemed quite competent during the northern city incident, but the opponents were fools compared to Shiroe's genius, so I guess it was only relative.

If I understood it correctly they needed to shut it down in order to negate the way his HP bar was acting and disable his teleportation ability. You need to keep in mind that they made this plan without Haganemushi, in which case the easiest way to stop him would be to kill him and then collect his sword. It's not like they were aiming to destroy the sword earlier since it didn't seem like they could do it.
As for why they shut down the magic circle at that point, they mentioned it already that the sword gave him buffs for every adventurer within a certain radius so they were kiting him around whittling his HP bar down. If they shut it down straight away and swarmed him they might have suffered more losses because of the buffs and if they were in small groups like now he might have escaped once the armor lost it's properties which is probably why they timed the freeze skill. There's also the fact that they had to summon the Kunie clan to a meeting and have them agree on shutting the field down, there's a possibility that he wasn't in Akihabara and needed to travel back after the last meeting. So basically they planned for different scenarios and were buying time until all the pieces came together. At least that's how I interpreted it all.

Episode 9 - HS
- - --- - - --
Those three raid bosses didn't look like something that should have been cooperating with each others. They had nothing in common. I hope there's some explanation behind this. If the world becomes less a game, more (fantasy) reality, then different sorts of monsters and villains should be able to work together all the less. Good guys easily work for a common goal, but for the bad guys the worst enemies are logically the other bad guys. I could see the knight and the berserk looking boss somewhat getting along for the duration of a single fight, since they even aren't necessarily evil (they could be drinking buddies for all we know), but the serpent monster? The humanoid raid bosses would have more in common with the adventurers than that thing.
A pity a full half of the episode was wasted on the world of the dead from Shiroe's pov this time.

Moon server, death, real past self in black and white setting.
For some reason, I'm starting to believe the people we have in that virtual reality, are in fact the avatars of their real self that is dead.
The reason for death is uncertain, could be a nuke/large scale fast mass extinction.
Or it could be that all of those people belong to a category of players who died.
I do not think this is just a long term log out with the avatars evolving by themselves.
But their avatars got most, if not all, of what defines them as people: memories/feelings/characters and the way they think and react.
And what is told, is how these avatars evolve in that virtual reality.
And that's why the goblins arc becomes important, each time an avatar (advanturer) dies in that reality, they lose parts of the set of data that builds their avatar. At some point, they might become goblins.
Just some nonsense here, okay ;)

Uhh... Why on Earth would they become goblins? They would become more like NPCs (people of the land) since this fantasy reality would be their only reality, with their past in the "real world" entirely forgotten. Of course if some sadist kept killing a player continuously hundreds of times reducing their psyche to nothingness, then they would become whatever, but so far we haven't seen a city where anybody would have done that. Instead we know for a fact that people who have died dozens of times still know they are players. As the fighting guild leader told Shiroe, players generally don't want to keep dying after a while. So, it's a self-regulating system.

It's a game guys, /random, /roll whatever, the highest roll gets to stand up first!
The second season of this show is probably one of the worst I've seen.
I can't say I liked a single episode of it so far, at least I don't remember liking one.
The fighting is "meh", the talk and semi-politics are boring and I couldn't care less for D.D.D. guild leader, let alone the princess.
Really boring overall.
Well, at least it feels like they *are* playing a Fantasy MMO, when it comes to raids/buffs/classes etc. unlike SAO for example.

I don't think I've ever read them before, but when checking ANN for anime news, I noticed the front page critic's impression of this Log Horizon ep 10.
This episode was essentially one twenty minute monologue, set over slow pans of William Massachusett's guild as he attempted to steel their resolve for one more raid attempt. And it was easily the best episode of the season.
...
This second season has been more or less bullshit so far, but, come on, it hasn't been so bad that this absurd episode would be the best of the lot!
I guess William really did have fans.

Wow, reading you guys´ reactions is like entering bizarro world. It´s true, this episode didn´t further the plot in a significant way. But sometimes that is not necessary. This wasn´t about William at all. It was a 20 minute love-speech about what it means to be gamer. And I could totally relate to this speech, almost teared up.
Fantastic episode, even if it didn´t do much for the ongoing story.

20 minutes for that is *way* to long
I didn't even fully grasp what he was trying to say in the first 10 minutes or so tbh.
The last 5-10 minutes were better as he started talking about how they can not only play Elder Tale, but live it. A world were *they* were the stong ones and not losers. It was also cool that he mentioned that you "learn" to play in a team and somtimes even form long lasting friendships (especially in MMOs) and you get to know people just by playing with them often enough.
But 20 minutes for that? Meh...
I totally agree with his view about raiding instead of living the good life in a town though. Not only are you able to remind yourself that this is just a game, but all the people in Akihabara are already so relaxed, they are pretty much no different from the People of the Land anymore... Are they even trying to get out of the game? Didn't feel like anyone but Shiroe is trying to find out why they are here for the last ~20 episodes or so.
If they know it's a game, they should play it, you won't advance otherwise.

I especially loved the first 10 minutes, as it was more general, and not talking specifically about mmorpgs. I never seriously played a mmorpg, their gameplay-mechanics are always based on meaningless, skill-less clicking*. But what William said about gamers in general just was too true.
*if we ever get Matrix-like mmorpgs, ill be the first to buy it.

Raid bosses that hurt themselves,.. that's some crazy stuff there. I would have said that if you could run to the final goal without fighting the bosses then you should do just that, but the big bird with the gold would mean fighting 4 at once, so I guess Shiroe made the right call there.
MFauli
Sun, 12-14-2014, 08:50 AM
you think the angel/bird thing is another boss? I doubt it, otherwise Shiroe shouldn´t stand a chance.
I always figured the best way to fight three bosses at once would be to lead them into hurting each other. But maybe Im looking at things too much from a Monster Hunter perspective :P
However, Id like to know what the trigger is for the successful completion of this raid. Shiroe and Demikas simply ran to the "goal". Why not ignore the three bosses and run there with everyone? And if it´s required to beat all bosses, then why not leave Shiroe with the others, so they could fight the angel/bird thing together? Makes no sense.

The preview explicitly mentioned that the bird was a raid boss.
That doesn't mean he is as powerful as the other bosses though. That, or he may have some weakness the villain will uncover and exploit. I actually hope it becomes a negotiation and Shiroe triumphs using his intellect and lies.

I don't think the raid bosses would do that. They came to each other's aid, and then the other guy made sure to keep hurting himself to produce minions when there were none.

I feel like this show forgot something, namely Crusty, who was sucked in by some evil void episodes ago. The next episode is about Valentine, it seems. I guess somebody will go to Lenessia and tell her it's customary to give a man chocolate on Valentine. And only then will everybody finally remember nobody knows where the man is, or if he even exists anymore.
Demikas and his unimpressed but understanding wife make a funny pair, I have to say.

I wasn't so worried about Lenessia forgetting him. I was worried about the author himself forgetting the whole thing! But I got a feeling his disappearence isn't widely distributed knowledge. I'd have expected Shiroe to talk about it with the leader of the fighting guild, as it seems likely at least all Round Table members would know. The monk girl Shiroe was always remembering and looking up to is an idiot airhead. Swell. The biggest disappointment character wise in this show. I expected her to be a remarkable, insightful and inspiring person. I guess Shiroe liked her so much because she never had a worry in her life and thus was his total opposite.
Still no sign of Crusty and no indication anybody would give a shit he disappeared and has remained disappeared for a long time now. Instead it looks like we will get another fucking Minori arc. Is the author trying to kill his own work? I thought there's no way I'd even consider dropping Akatsuki Horizon, but what can man do against such reckless stupidity?

I don't care who the new character is as long as she's related to Minori's group. That association alone will make her a useless character. They specifically set out on a journey without the high level guild members to toughen themselves up and gain the kind of decision making mindset that is essential for independent adventurers - and they end up letting this lvl 90 weirdo join their group?
It's indeed a total joke they didn't do anything against the second batch of monsters. The level difference wasn't unfavourable. The numbers were a bit bad, but in the end these things were monsters, so they would have little tactics. I guess that moment really demonstrated how much they were in a need of a quest exactly like this, without any more experienced and mature companions. This will be pointless if they stick to these new people in the preview.
Looks like people haven't forgotten Crusty, but they are only lamenting his absence, maybe even planning his funeral sans the body. Nobody seems to think it might be worth it to actually figure out what happened to him and what could be done to retrieve him. ----------------------
uneventful episode, but some things i wondered about:
1.) So Roe 2 isnt Shiroe. Not only is her behavior completely different, Shiroe would also be a true villain if he went into the onsen bath with the girls lol. Roe 2 is kinda cute (now that i know shes no trap). But its really dumb how similar she is in terms of looks. I guess her brother is Shiroe. Or she´s a member of the Debauchery guild. Whatever.
2.) Was it ever explained why Rundel Haus Code carries that name? Even for Japan, this is one weird ass name. We see other People of the Land all the time, and they have rather normal or at least reasonable names. His name almost reads like an enchantment or, more realistically speaking, a piece of programming code.
3.) Seeing the pretty npc girl: Was it ever said if there is some sort of anti-sex program in the world of this mmorpg? If not, it´s somewhat (read: absolutely) unrealistic that we haven´t heard of several cases of rape. I mean, at least in the beginning phase of the adventurers´ entrapment, before they started to cooperate with npcs, there had to have been guys that decided to have their fun with those ridiculous weak npcs. I believe to remember that npcs were killed in the beginning, so if that´s a thing, well.
Just something Im sure would happen if we had this technology in real life.

This episode had a hilariously low animation budget. But better a Minori ep has a minor budget than an episode that really matters.
Looks like Shiroe also misses Crusty. Funnily enough, just like everybody else, he only spares Crusty's fate a single thought, and then continues business as usual with an "oh, well, shit happens" attitude. Damn, these people are cold. No wonder Akiba is developing social issues.
1.) So Roe 2 isnt Shiroe.
Nobody thought she's Shiroe. I have no idea why she has to look so much like him, though, apart from having the same cloak, which apparently is a desirable item for the class and thus not really unlikely.
2.) Was it ever explained why Rundel Haus Code carries that name?
Since he's originally a People of the Land and not the sharpest arrow in the quiver, I could see him loitering around lots of players in the beginning, catching weird words he didn't understand, and forming himself a "nice" adventurer name using a random few of them.
3.) Seeing the pretty npc girl: Was it ever said if there is some sort of anti-sex program in the world of this mmorpg? If not, it´s somewhat (read: absolutely) unrealistic that we haven´t heard of several cases of rape.

Roe2 has to be one of Shiroe's alts. I don't see what else she could be at this point.

You mean Shiroe had more than one player characters saved, one of them quite similar to his current one, only female? It became an adventurer? Dunno, seems like a stretch. We already know Shiroe had plenty of fans and admirers, even if also people who only wanted to use him as a tool to level up faster. Roe 2 might simply be one of the sycophants.

...
That wasn't my point. The point was that since we have Shiroe the Main Character present, it would strongly suggest that was the particular character he was playing with when the game became reality. So, who's the "soul" behind Roe 2 if she's an unused account? That Shiroe's mind would have been cloned to all possible characters he might have created is the stretch I was referring to. They would all believe they are the real person from the real world, possessing the exact same memories. That would be creepy.

I like the idea of Roe2 being Shiroe's alt.
1. there's this scene in the opening of which I posted that picture from
2. she said she came from the moon, which is - according to shiroe - the test-server (perfect place to test out classes/subclasses etc)
3. Some/all(?) people go there and lose something there if they die... (memories etc.) which will end up as a new consciousness for twinks sooner or later? Does Akatsuki want to be some kind of "older sister" since she's so small and all? Maybe Roe2's "soul" is a mix of Shiroe's and Akatsuki's
4. She says something along the lines "How did I end up with this subclass I'd really like to talk to the person in charge"
It's as if she started her adventure like that... not wanting it obviously.
And she said she switched with something/someone in Oou.... what/where was Oou again? Gold Vault, Goblin King, some Town Shiroe went to?
Which expedition is Minori talking about?
If it's the area near the Goblin King, guess with whom she switched places -> Crusty anyone?
Crusty disappeared around the time when Shiroe wiped and Akatsuki died to the Royal Guard, right? (see 3.) How much time has passed since then? I'm not really keeping track on that.

If it's established that she really switched places with Crusty, I'll delete this show from my HDD and never mention it again.
However, I don't really see it as anything but a coincidence (and it's not like we wouldn't have already got a truckload of new characters since the Crusty incident a long time ago). First of all, Crusty's disappearance should be tied to the totally forgotten and unexplored flavour text plot thread, and on the other hand Crusty is not a single character phenomenon to begin with: He's half of the Crusty+Lenessia couple, thus nobody can replace him.

Because it's not the characters that develop a personality, but the AI (be it subprogram or a script).

If it's just an "empty" account of Shiroe, then in practice it has nothing to do with Shiroe anymore. It's not like he could have logged out and switced to another character anymore. We are at least led to believe the player characters we have seen so far are either the very people who were playing the game normally in RL or they are copies of those players' minds given bodies in this game world. It's not like I couldn't accept that there's Shiroe and Copy of Shiroe (2) or even Copy of Shiroe (n), but come on, that would be kind of creepy, and would be even more so if they ever met. They both would believe they are the real Shiroe while the other one is nothing but a copy.
But then again, it's entirely possible, of course, and weirder things have happened in this show. If that's the case, it would be better if Roe 2 was an alt account but wouldn't have any of Shiroe's RL memories since that wasn't the account he was playing when they got sucked in. So, she would be an adventurer with no memories of RL whatsoever.

Yea, I'm not sure if it is a copy or what, but it is an interesting situation regardless which is why I think it has to be the case.
Perhaps Roe2's personality is based on how Shiroe acted while he played the character.
We've already been shown personalities can come out of nowhere though, with the gold farming bot.
Though it is interesting that the bot knew she was a bot, but Roe2 seems like maybe she doesn't know about the real world, as Krayz points out.

Dual boxing is pretty easy to do. If only players logged on were brought into the world then the idea that he was logged on to two accounts isn't that far fetched.

Hmm... So, the Odyssey Knight's mission seems to be to disrupt the player only perks (telepathy and resurrection), I reckon. They want to die a true death in battle? That would fit well together with their haggard countenance. They did look almost like some religious cult.
One thing I like about Nureha is how she's so smooth a liar. I thought Touya was falling for her, but I'm not so sure anymore. Although maybe it is so, and the very reason making him so annoyed is because he feels like Dariella isn't honest with herself (no shit) and is unnecessarily carrying a heavy facade (no shit^2).
At least it's certain now that Roe 2 is similar to the people of the land. She knows absolutely nothing about RL.
Largely a tiresome episode again, but at least it did contain a bit of information. The next ep naturally looks better. Jolly good for the party as well: They don't need to go looking for wyverns when the beasts instead come to them!

I don't think he's following them as much as keeping an eye on Minami. Shiroe knows the Silver Swords are in control to the north so his next real threat would be from the south (assuming having the princess is a good way to keep the king/nobles from doing something stupid in Maihama... but that's why Akasuki is there anyway). He knows there are Minami spies in the city so he has to assume they know the city's protection is down (which the viewers already know is true). The swarm of wyverns even at medium level would do some serious damage Akihabara or at the very least would have them preoccupied enough for Plant Hwyaden to swoop in to take over the city in the aftermath. Nyanta has the gryphon to ride making distance travel easier so at least he's give a heads up to a coming army whether it be beasts or "humans".
I'm more interested in seeing what's behind the marked masks of the Odyssey Knights. Wonder if using the mobile temple too many times messes up your face or turns you into something.

Poor NPCs, only 42 songs gifted to them by the BGM gods.
The mobile cathedral seems like it would be super dangerous for players.
If you get resurrected there, what's to stop the people surrounding it from killing you again? And again, and again, until you don't have any memories left.

Maybe that's exactly what they want? If they can't prevent respawning (like they did telepathy), they might as well wipe their own memories and thus their regrets and suffering in the same process. They won't miss RL if they don't remember it, after all.

I do know, however, that even an episode that should have been full of fighting and thus good can be made pitiful simply by Minori being there. That's really all to know about this episode.
I can't help but think the Odyssey Knights really do know dying and seeing glimpses of their past doesn't mean they are getting any closer to RL, but they are willingly fooling themselves as they are sinking into oblivion.
It's pretty hard to see what exactly is going on in Minami. It's also quite annoying they are supposedly making huge leaps in all kinds of magic technology (even the mobile cathedrals of the Odyssey Knights are from there, I believe), but we haven't seen anything fancier than the old steam ship from Akiba, despite the fact there're supposed to be thousands of people in those guilds.

Agreed, I also don´t like all these sudden introductions. People of the land have been portrayed as stiff, uncreative, now it´s the exact opposite.
And while I got the answer "because it´s a shounen anime" before, I really wonder how those adventurerers that have decided to accept this world as "real" think about offspring. Basically, would it be possible for and adventurer to have a baby with another adventurer? What about adventurerXpeopleoftheland? For those that have no ambition to return to our reality that should be a big topic.
Oh, and this episode ruined Nyanta´s appearance. Instead of slaying random ghost monsters in the woods, I wanted him to insta-jump on that train and then suddenly stay behind that overly confident PotL-woman :P

Actually it shouldn't even matter if they eventually want to return or not. They are mostly young people, so they ought to have certain urges. Of course lunatics like the Odyssey Knights are a different thing. While we won't see the actual actions of such kind in a shounen show, there's nothing preventing showing the results. Demikas is already living with a cute wife and months are rolling by (without anybody caring about Crusty's fate), so at some point we might suddenly see Demikas with a baby.

So we finally get to see what is in the letter.
As I expected, Roe2 is an alt. Though the explanation...
Shiroe: "It wouldn't make sense if we were transported to some other world that was just like the game. And it is impossible for us to be sucked inside the game with current technology. So apparently, it is aliens!"
There wasn't really going to be a satisfying explanation, so I guess this is okay. I wonder if the magical empathions are used by the aliens to stop entropy.
Kraco
Mon, 03-09-2015, 04:45 AM
No, it's not okay. If that was all the author could come up with, assuming Shiroe is correct, then he should have just left it a mystery. Madoka could still make it somehow work, especially in retrospect, because it was such an intensive and wholesome package all in all, but this show, which seems utterly incapable of concluding even the most basic of its plotlines, is no good. It's just one more goofy detail in the mess of dozens of details the story keeps pushing out, with seemingly no intention of putting them to any sensible use.
This second season really was a huge disaster. If the Japanese producers have any wits, there won't be a third season. I can't understand how the LN publishing company let things proceed like this. Maybe they have no editors whatsoever.

i want to complain about this so much. why did we have to bear all those filler-ish episodes that added nothing to a coherently progressing plot, yet NOW suddenly the moon reacts? Isaac is a black knight, not a white knight. I kind of doubt he could suffer being stuck to such a boring job for much longer. His guild is one that specialises in quality over quantity and heavy fighting. In other words, his own guild has no weaklings at all.
This whole second season was totally wasted. Many good manga/LN go unanimated or only get a single short season, but this one spent 25 eps on nothing at all. Two eps left and with so much stupid shit going on, I'm beginning to doubt very much I'll be seeing the one thing that has kept me watching this wreck and not dropping it: Crusty coming back and teasing Lenessia once again.

I mean, is a 3rd season confirmed? Because this whole 2nd season makes NO sense whatsoeveratall if there is no third season. However, from what I gather, popularity has dropped significantly and a 3rd season might be unlikey. all these sighs ...

Whitty all the thirteen in a dozen anime coming out every season, I wouldn't pretend to know how the producing works in Japan, but even then it would be extremely hard to understand how this second season could encourage a third one. Like you said, this was nothing but a setup. That is, 25 episodes of setupping new plots that were then always promptly forgotten in the next episode. Absolutely nothing is concluded, except for a few magic bags for the newbies, and even that might have been filler.

No, no, and conditionally no, depending on what you consider interesting. But as has been made evident, this season has been so poor that anything interesting has been mere details lost in the sea of meaninglessness. Sure, there have been a few good scenes, but all in all I can't imagine anybody would be watching this season for any other reason but to finish what they started.
Akatsuki has been rendered as useless as everything else. Dunno if you stopped watching before her arc, but even that was exceedingly unsatisfying. After that she's doing nothing but hanging in the background with a few tricks she keeps repeating, adding nothing to the show.
Shiroe won't have any Aizen moments because this show no longer concludes anything. A plot begins, maybe Shiroe analyses it for a bit, but then by the next ep the whole thing is forgotten and a new plot introduced. Maybe far in the future in the LNs some of them are finished, who knows, granting Shiroe again a reason to shine. Or maybe nothing will be solved since they suddenly started to concentrate on getting out of the game.

Episode 25 Final - HS

What a waste of animation budget. I wish they had used the money animate more Mondaijitachi or something instead of this. Unless the LN source is totally different and this adaptation simply sucked more than a vacuum cleaner with a 3kW motor.
So, Crusty is back, mysteriously together with Kanami. The game world replicates the entire Earth in a smaller scale, yet Crusty mysteriously was able to locate Kanami after reappearing who knows where. Quite a lucky dude, even if they both were crossing the Chinese server lands to reach Japan and even if the lands were quite barren considering there are basically no players but a few stragglers outside of Japan. But it's still a huge place.

http://www.animenewsnetwork.com/news/2016-04-27/log-horizon-author-mamare-touno-found-guilty-of-tax-evasion/.101506
NTV News 24 reported on Tuesday that the Tokyo District Court found Daisuke Umezu — the real name of author Mamare Touno — guilty of tax evasion on Tuesday. The court sentenced Touno to 10 months in prison, although the sentence is suspended for three years so he will not serve time if he remains on good behavior. The court also levied his rights management company m2ladeJAM with a 7 million yen (about US$63,000) fine.
The 42-year old author of Log Horizon and MAOYU was charged last April with tax evasion and violation of the Corporate Tax Law for allegedly neglecting to file about 122 million yen (US$1 million) in royalties in the three years since the fiscal year ending in March 2014. Touno owes the Japanese government 30 million yen (US$270,000) in taxes.
Shortly after being charged last April, Touno released a statement that said, "The Tokyo Regional Taxation Bureau notified me about the investigation on my tax reports, and I cooperated with their investigation. I have filed and paid my back taxes and completed the necessary paperwork, and so the Bureau has concluded their investigation."
Touno was placed under house arrest last December.

A series turning to shit, something I already agreed to in this thread, doesn't mean that I wouldn't want to see more of this series animated, in particular to finish up the running plot.
I'd take another run of any series left unfinished any day of the week regardless of how shitty it had become. Exceptions made when the next portion ruins an already good series, but that already occurred here.

Actually in retrospect I wish Shana stopped after S1.
I guess the thing is that if a series has no hope of being any good, we'd rather see resources being put into other things. It could be a brand new series, or continuing a good series (Claymore, Berserk etc).

I wonder what this would mean for the continuation of the light novel as well. As I understand it, there was one release a couple of years ago after the tax scandal, but not sure if that was work that had already been submitted or what.
I know he has written a couple of volumes as a web novel, but with no light novel adaptation yet. Depending on how long of a season it is, I figure they may need to borrow material from the unpublished novels, since I recall pretty much all the light novel that was out at the time was animated (with barely any new material since).
We'll see. I kinda recall season 2 being a disappointment, but I always liked this world so I welcome this new season.

S3 Episode 1
- - - -
I imagine being a player and bowing down to some NPC king. Because that's what Eins apparently did. He accepted the position of a Duke of Akiba, which means absolutely nothing. He's not a duke of anything in practice. Maybe he's betting on Akiba falling under Minami or something. It's hard to imagine he would want to become a meaningless duke under an NPC king unless it was for a bigger, nefarious purpose. The players in Akiba shouldn't give a single shit about his fancy title of a duke. Realistically the members of his guild should already be wondering whether to stay in the guild or not, since it's not an independent guild anymore.
Plenty of Lenessia in the episode, but it all feels empty without Krusty there teasing her. And now we learned she's supposedly marrying some noname, instead of Krusty.

Episode 2
- - - -
I still think there are far too many players who seem to give a shit. It's like they are forgetting they are players. The round table was excellently believable because it was nothing but a kind of annoying necessity for handling some pressing practical issues. It was only when some losers, like Eins, started to think too much that problems arose. It should still be only his own problem, though. The players, at large, shouldn't give a shit about the people of the land's politics. If Eins wants to play excel sheets with the NPCs, he's free to do it, but he should keep it to himself. There's no imaginable way for him to enforce anything upon the other players, save for some scrubs. What exactly could he do to the fighting guilds? The episode made it sound like the players depend on the NPCs, but all those NPCs would already be dead without the players, killed by the goblin horde.
It also feels like a giant mistake to bring those whatever people of the land nobles to meet Shiroe. I get why Eins, playing his little dreamy games, would want to meet the glasses villain in private, but what the heck kind of role do the NPCs serve? I hope Eins isn't trying to mix NPC nobles in the Akiba affairs. That wouldn't end well.
This show desperately needs Krusty back!
