It was mentioned shortly after Ichigo lost his powers in the manga that his friends never had their minds erased.

The final member of the Zero Squad's island is one big spiritual training room (ala gravity room training ftw).

So... Bath -> Eat -> Test/Work/Forge -> Clothes -> Hyperbolic Time Chamber / Gravity training. I think a lot more people would of survived if we just took turns and had everyone go through the training. And you know ... not wait for the spiritual apocalypse to occur before we do something.
