Zoro being all business was a fitting touch.I don't know about fitting. He seemed to have an intelligence that was borderline out-of-character. Or at least, more than he's shown in so long that I forgot he had it.

Zoro was never anywhere as stupid as Luffy. He has atrocious navigation skills and isn't overly interested in anything outside of swords, training, fights, and booze, but that doesn't make him stupid per se. Besides, considering his previous occupation, he might have seen a bunch of hostage situations before, from the other side.
