Forgetting about the supernatural aspect of this show, I was going to palm this off as a fairly tame "socially-inept girl meets someone who can take her shit and slowly opens up to make friends" type of storyline. The whole monster-ancestry thing came as a surprise, and I hope it develops more in that direction. As a complete package with some quirky side characters to keep your interest, it's not a bad watch.

I downloaded this because I was bored, so I too didn't remember anything about it being a supernatural show. Nevertheless, I was pleasantly surprised with the "twist" toward the end of the episode. It was stupid of me, since it was thrown in your face since they named the mansion. I just figured the place was going to be haunted or something.

Inu x Boku SS is like kurenai crossed with a little bit of Zakuro. I like it. Or maybe apartment life (Maison Ikkoku or more appropriately Mahoraba) meets Zakuro. :3

The lead is a pretty talented VA. I've seen a lot of her other series, but I can't recognize her voice at all. She's got good range. She doesn't sound like Last Order or Kaede from Tiger and Bunny at all. A little bit of Hideyoshi from Sengoku Otome without any of the cutesy voice, which makes her character in Inu x Boku SS even cuter. Nakamura Yuuichi (Macross F's Alto) was perfect as the male lead. Gentle voiced yet fawning over Ririchiyo and serious when he needs to be.

It's got good comedy, a nice ensemble cast of nutcases, a good VA cast to go with it, and an art style that lends itself well to the two tones the series touches on (super deformed and bishonen/Shonen).

Ririchiyo must have the patience of a saint to listen to the SS dude's endless flattery around the clock. Must be her demonic blood that allows her to retain her sanity under such a continuous onslaught.

I wasn't expecting this show to delve that deep into such themes and all, but it does give it something other than humour. The cloth-monster is pretty gold. Ditz-males are kinda refreshing.

I didn't realise Japanese fox spirits were charmers too (and male ones at that). It's pretty exclusively female in Chinese mythology.

The sadist!/masochist! guy was pretty funny, and Sugita Tomokazu is always awesome. While the later judgments about the fish tank glass, the sky, and the roof were silly, he did seem to have a good handle on all the various personalities of the residents. Earlier episodes had a few minor hints that the maid isn't as nice and cutesy as she comes off. Ririchiyo too, likes to act sadist to defend herself, but gets hurt too much. Banri, Watanuki, and Nobara are of course, obvious. The Karuta comment about her wanting to be the eater was cute. I'm guessing she likes Kagerou because he always feeds her.

What I'm really looking forward to is a hopeful reunion of Ririchiyo and her sister. That scene a few episodes back was really moving. Her father was crying for her sister (never for Ichiyo) because he thought his "privileged" daughter would never understand the hardships that the "normal" daughter has to go through being Ririchiyo's sister. The sad part is that he has the entire situation backwards. Ririchiyo is more trapped, more restricted, and never experienced affection from her parents. What's even sadder is that since she never experienced being loved before, she thinks she is developing a heart defect...

I would like to see how her sister would act now that Ririchiyo has done a "selfish act" by leaving the main household to live on her own. Would she be be kind and loving toward her "privileged" sibling, or haughty and resentful, when she was the blessed one this whole time?

Banri, Watanuki, and Nobara are of course, obvious.

The racoon fellow seems to be Banri Watanuki. Did you mean to say someone else, or just added in the extra comma?

I really wanted to see his judgement for the flying scroll guy. Guess he's too random.

The carpet was the best. xD

Yeah, I meant Natsume (the rabbit guy).

The carpet wasn't silly, which is why I excluded it from that line. ;)

Karuta's ED was delicious. Comparing it to OP/EDs of similar qualities I would call it second only to Sengoku Nadeko's Renai Circulation.

Ririchiyo is so cute. I really love Hidaka Rina for this role. Her monologues are always interesting despite the repetitiveness because of the delivery.

Her actively regretting every line she utters in real-time was great since we've already had a great deal of the "walk away and reflect on your action" scenes already.

I'm not sure who I like better though - Ririchiyo or Karuta. I suppose I can always play the same way the Ice-lady plays and like whoever I can get my hands on at the time.

Ririchiyo seems unnaturally hung up on the fact that Fox might have known she had a fiance.

Karuta is great, but she isn't really above all characters of that type. Ririchiyo is just that much better a loli tsundere than most, mainly because she can kick ass, and has a kick ass voice.

Ryllharu
Mon, 02-27-2012, 04:43 AM
She's not really a loli though. It's just the art style. Karuta and Chino the Maid are about the same height as Ririchiyo is. Nobara is tall, and the guys are all tall as well (as bishonen always tend to be) except Watanuki, who is the same height as the girls his age. Sorinozuka is notably tall for his age, which has been mentioned before.

I agree. It is just the art style. It makes one think that Karuta and Ririchiyo are about the same height, when they aren't.

Ririchiyo is 152cm, while Karuta is 163cm. Check out this screenshot: They are both standing. (http://i59.photobucket.com/albums/g310/shinta617/996245.jpg)

152cm is still pretty loli to me.

Maybe they are saying it looks natural, rather than implants, which do defy gravity.

So Ririchyo is into coffee making.
At least she has a proper kettle and knows the circular movements.

But although hot dripping has its charms, you get better extractions with an aeropress, a cona type (with proper process) and in a very different way a toddy (cold brew).
Then you could go the espresso way, but I guess we're not in the same category as you have to master a machine, rather than simple tools.

Other than that, we get a brat unable to communicate even the simplest positive feeling?

I'm surprised you didn't complain that she wasn't using a French Press...

Aeropress ftw, not that I drink coffee, but guests do, so I own one. Vacuum pots are nice as well.

edit:
You have to remember that Ririchyo was completely isolated in her home. No one talked to her, even her servants. They revered her and treated her like a doll. Her own parents loathed or feared her, preferring to give all their attention to their "less privileged" daughter. Her household acted like she could get anything she wanted, but it was obvious that all they really did was give her what they expected her to need. When she did ask for something (paper), they would paralyze her with choices. While she did learn to love stationary, she definitely over thinks everything she does.

Ririchyo ends up too worried about another person's reaction to what she might say (since she theoretically held so much power in her household she could ruin someone) so she ends up stumbling and saying "safe" small-talk or the insults.

I was somewhat astonished that she didn't just send a letter of invitation to him. That's more her style.

French Press? I did try it too. It was called Moroccan coffee. It's a little muddy, even when carefully processed, I didn't mention it as it might not suit the character well.

Regarding the letter, well she did try to put her words on paper to sort her ideas, but it seems it didn't come to her she should use that medium.
It's true I did forget about her background and how she's an outcast.

Hmm, so what's the big secret? It would seem like he was lying and using her for his own ends this whole time, and with all of Ririchiyo's trust issues, that's certainly what she's thinking at the end of the episode. What she saw in the hallway when she went to visit him will help that misconception. It's too bad we never saw what her text message said.

But if I had to guess from the preview...it would be that Miketsukami was actually the one receiving her letters when she was young. That would be how he "saved" him so long ago. He might even be the one who she's actually engaged to, but for whatever reason, he asked Kagerou to take his place.

I'm a little saddened by the fact that we will probably not be seeing her sister any time soon, if at all. That was always the most promising aspect of this story for me. Maybe the manga covers it...

P.S. And oh yes that mother (9:19) was an "S", ku ku ku.

That's my thought too.

I would have thought that it was Kagerou who was engaged to her all along though. He just didn't feel like writing those letters since he can't be very S about it, so he passed the task on to Miketsukami.

Inu Boku SS is like the complete opposite of GC - without its flaws.

I gather that the "bewitched man" was seeing all those clones, and there weren't multiple (9?) Miketsukami Soushis? Even if Kagerou's family was more powerful, I can't see how a family would simply give up their prized possession like that - particularly when the Miketsukami household believed their own could be used to control the world.

Power is like that. They simply had no other choice. The alternative was probably being crushed by the stronger party.

A satisfying ending to a nice series I suppose. The relationship did feel a little fast-tracked since it wasn't too long ago that Ririchiyo was thinking she had a heart problem, but the relevation her childhood "soul mate" was actually Miketsukami does make sense for such development.

Nobara was right. Miketsukami certainly doesn't care how young Ririchiyo is. xD
