This is why we love Japan:

Recovery picture? *snore* j/k. That's damned impressive. I can remember a number of other disasters in the last decade or so that weren't handled quite as efficiently...though I do question the wisdom of rebuilding exactly where the disaster struck.

They don't really have a choice since land is a very scarce resource in Japan.

What they'll most likely do this time is create more precautionary measures to deal with future Tsunami. There was an episode of "Modern Marvel" that shows off the Japanese flood channels and how it's much more advance than the rest of the world due to the extreme danger of seaquakes.

Yeah. And since this is like a once-in-however-many-years disaster, it's a bit hard to avoid. Next time it comes around it could well be in a different spot, and the entire Japan is prone to earthquakes anyway.

I never actually got to know the final result of the whole Fukushima nuclear crisis since the news channels moved on to other things.

It is still being dealt with and being contained. It's not over yet not for a long time to come.
