Am I forgetting something about baldy? did he ever before say he was exceptionally lucky or someshit?

or maybe he considers himself to be lucky because he has friends and family in the 11th division?

Yeah he's mentioned how lucky he is a few times before, it started when he survived his battle against Kempachi

Lol...

I was able to see the end of the fight, with the brawl and all. But badassness would have been enough to explain the outcome. He's pretty much like Kenpachi, being able to fight strong till the end regardless of the odds against him. That should have been enough to give him the edge against a brat that thinks his lucky move is the ultimate weapon.
