Sun-Ken Rock (サンケンロック? (http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Help:Installing_Japanese_character_sets)) is a Japanese manga series written and illustrated by Boichi. The plot tells the story of Ken who is in love with a Korean girl called Yumin. He dropped out of high school and followed her to Korea in an attempt to be in the police force just like her. Instead, he finds himself as the head of a local gang.



The story revolves around Ken, the main character who wants to become a police officer just like the girl he loves. But due to unforeseen circumstances, he becomes the head of a local gang Called 28 and tries to hide it from the girl he loves since she hates gang members. As the manga progresses he recruits new members and becomes notorious by taking down other gangs.

I god damn love this manga as it gives alternate views that criminal organizations may have originally been founded on altruism rather than money. The art is amazing and the comedy surprisingly fits in very nicely despite having a very dark theme. I do think that the women-trafficking/rape/blackmail chapters could be toned a bit, but it's what makes this manga all the better.

Yes, I like it too,. One of the few mangas I'm following right now. They do hit on a lot of major points of the underworld which makes it more realistic. Everything blends well in this manga and the pace is great as well.

If there's only one thing negative I have to say about the series, it's that the recent chapters start to stink of some shounen powerlevel scaling.

Hope it's not the case that the antagonists just simply become stronger at fighting as the series progresses.

Of course, if the new gang is one founded by Kim Bonfuu, that might change my opinion.

My thoughts exactly.

Tae-Soo thinks that the new attackers (Bon-fuu and his foreign gang) are the people with political influences, so it'll certainly be interesting to see how the Sun-Ken Rock group deals with a two-front war (thinking it's one opponent instead) and that's excluding Benito's plans to assassinate Ken.

I'm still following it; the fight with Ban has been pretty damn long (9 chapters).

I wonder how Ken will react once he finds out Yumin has been the Yakuza's heir and that his parents were effectively killed the organization.

Just like he does with everything else in life... Like a boss.

I'm sure he wont flip out about it too much. He's had everything and its mother thrown at him and he's found a way to deal with it all. Plus I'm sure Yumin accepting who he is without much struggle will help too.

Definitely not the same feeling when I first started reading it but still enjoyable. I do kind of miss the training chapters, them going through hell and coming out looking ripped.
