A show clearly meant for the HC Type-Moon fans and thus I'm going to lose much here and there, not knowing many of the characters, but at least this first ep was still very understandable... enjoyable for me. I doubt they'll ever be too understandable.

Now I need to watch Tsukihime again.I dunno if that will really help you too much. You be better off playing Melty Blood: Actress Again and Fate/hollow ataraxia. All the character variations are from those two.

edit: You won't find Len, Riesbyfe Stridberg, Sion Eltnam Atlasia, or Arima Miyako in Tsukihime. Same goes for Casual Caster ♥, or Caren in FS/N.

@Kraco: That might actually be the best idea. I have a feeling there is going to be a lot of spoiler references throughout this. Specifically to the other arcs of the FS/N game (not the main one that was used for the anime), the side arcs to Tsukihime, and Melty Blood.

HA, along with everything else too. The backgrounds flash the character images used when a character uses their Blood Heat Arc Drives or Last Arcs. The timing on them is dead on, frame for frame, from the fighting game (http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=r8zf54-fxYQ).

Hisui spends the episode using motions from her moves in the game, Ciel actually shows her Circuit Meter, and Ahika goes Vermilion twice...and Sacchin gets snubbed. :3

As gotwoot's number one (only?) Sakura fan, I loved the dramatically more arrogant take on her personality. Or at least the more open version of her real personality, the one appropriate to her true station. She's a tragic figure not because of the daily abuse, the constant attacks, and the hard life she must lead. No, all those things are because she is simply too beautiful such that others can't help but be envious, and treat her poorly out of sheer jealousy.

That and her falling off the roof. I don't know why, but I found that incredibly funny.

Rule Breaker as a wallet charm...it actually makes a lot of sense.

Well, it's something else altogether. I might be able to watch a full FSN of that, why not. But they have to keep the production values as high as that short OVA.

It's highly incredible how eyegasmic they make the Fate universe these days. I guess the franchise gets them tons of money.
Watching the original FSN anime will give you leprosy in the eyes after watching that OVA.

I was more impressed by how many things stayed the same from Prototype to F/SN, despite genderswaps, completely different characters, utterly different appearances. A surprising number of plot points remained completely unchanged, others just swapped one Servant for another, one master for another.

Regarding the Super Date, at first I thought there was an animation error, since Sakura kept appearing in the background or side of the other two dates. Then I realized that it was in fact, perfectly in character for her. Sakura, knowing far more about everything going on than she should (this time knowing about the other two dates going on), slinking around deceptively, keeping an eye on Shirou, just waiting for her time to strike ("Senpai! Where have you been?").

Eh? Kara no Kyoukai character(s) are alluded to in Fate/Stay Night, entire organizations are the same (Mage Association most notably), and the same KnK characters are occasionally referenced to in Tsukihime (Touko).

How is that the same relation if they are all in the same universe, while Prototype isn't?

Kara no Kyoukai was a prototype of Tsukihime - according to Nasu if i remember correctly - he first wrote few chapters on KnK and after a while he started working on Tsuki, he finished KnK and then Tsuki if i recall correctly.
There aren't that much similarities between those two(aozaki mage gives glasses, mystic eyes of death perception, inner murder instinct/impulse(native to Nanaya clan), and fighting supernatural beings) as in fate/stay night <=> fate prototype though.

I really liked that Prototype seemed to give more importance to collecting Command Seals. If the "degrees" translate to power scales, then collecting command seals didn't just mean being able to make your servant do one more thing (since it kind of means you and your servant didn't get along that well in the first place if you needed to use it), but it actually makes you into a stronger master.

It turns the grail war from a survival game into a hunting game.

Whatever else may be said about Shirou, at least he wasn't ever a coward or an emo. In that sense I'm happier with FSN as it was. It seems to me like some superficial elements of Prototype's main character was used in Rin, though, even if the personality was completely changed.

The only reason that this wasn't the final product was because Nasu felt he needed to create a main character the otaku wanted to be and a heroine they wanted to fuck. If not for the pandering to the low lives this would have been the final product, and it would have been glorious.

I very much doubt a cowardly, emo main character would have made FSN glorious... Shirou was stupid with his overly virtuous wannabe hero attitude, but at least he faced the troubles head on and never wanted to run away, much less fall into depression. I instantly disliked Prototype main char.

On the other hand, I totally loved the "alter-Kotomine-Kirei" evil guy. Maybe he was too evil for FSN. Too much of a give-away.
