Plot Summary: The story is set in "No. 6", a future model city in 2013. Raised as a top-ranking elite since the age of 2, a boy named Shion lives in an exclusive area in No. 6. On the night of his 12th birthday, he rescues a boy who calls himself "Nezumi" ("Rat"). Nezumi ran away from the city's Special Security Area. From that moment on, Shion's life is changed forever...

A more informative, somewhat spoilerish (but not really) Plot Summary follows. Highlight to read:

-------------------- Set in the year 2013, where Shion (Kaji Yuuki) is living in the futuristic utopia NO.6′s most prestigious section, Chronos, because a medical test at the age of two deemed that he possesses high intellect and aptitude. He’s grown up learning fundamentals until the age of ten and specialized in ecology since then, and everything in his life was looking up. That all changed on his twelfth birthday, when he sheltered an injured corrections facility escapee named Nezumi (Hasoya Yoshimasa) and was later discovered, resulting in his exile to the slums of NO.6, Lost Town. Four years later, he’s suspected of a murder he didn’t commit and sentenced to the corrections facility, but saved by Nezumi. Shion later learns of NO.6′s true nature, and the Mao Massacre that Nezumi and his highly intelligent forest people were victims of.

The story took a bit of getting used to at first, and I really wasn't pulled in at all. By the end of it though, I already want to know what happens to these two. The boy-boy relationship is also a jarring change from our staple boy-loli girl(s) romance one, but also a refreshing one. As long as it doesn't turn emo.

Or yaoi?

LOL, I was going to say that you can hold hands without being gay (/grabs shinta's hands), but then I remembered the kiss and "why are you doing what my mum does?"

Holding hands with another guy is not gay depending on the situation.

It's not when you are arm wrestling, shaking hands, saving someone from falling to his death.

It is when you are lying on the bed with the other guy and saying how warm he is.

Yeah. What I was trying to say was that it seems like that guy has no concept of sexuality, amongst other things.

That, or the kiss scene was the most epic rejection scene in all of anime.

They kissed. Safu!!!!!!!!!

Haha, they sure did. I really don't mind their BL at all. However, it does pain me a little that Safu will never be a person who Sion will give good-night kisses to. While I do want to get Safu out there as fast as possible, at the same time I want to see her as a sample for a bit longer - what would she, who looks at things so scientifically all the time, feel when she's the sample?

I think Rat will die at the end of all this. Or at least, his existence will be unconfirmed.

As long as Safu is happy, I don't care if all the other characters die. Unfortunately, some characters are conditional for her happiness.

What struck me with surprise was that the correctional facility wasn't in fact a correctional facility at all - even if some people go there in name, but are in fact killed before they arrive. Perhaps this facility doesn't even exist and No. 6 deems any non-obeyers as incurable and dangerous, like a cancer cell.

[JNE-REMUX][HorribleSubs] No. 6 - 11 [720p][FINAL] (http://www.nyaa.eu/?page=torrentinfo&tid=245697)

-------------------------------------------

I really hoped they had a good ending for all this. I really did. And by that I meant that they had a flowing explanation that puts everything in place. So the Eleyulias thing was a giant bee? Or a giant bee god? Or something? No.6 tried to "awaken" it by putting bits of it in people, but instead it creates parasite bees instead? This giant bee god that produces parasitic offspring is supposed to heal the land? Safu died?

You name it. Was Eleyulias that necessary for No.6 that they needed to awaken it, even if it lead to their ruin?

The whole forest-folk stuff was pulled out of nowhere too. If I had to compare this show to another, I'd say it's pretty close to Shangri-La (http://www.animenewsnetwork.com.au/encyclopedia/anime.php?id=10246), complete with [highlight to read]outside-faction vs utopian city, environmental themes and random mythology/gods pulled out of nowhere, not to mention the ??? ending.

It did a better job though, so I'm actually pissed more at the lost potential rather than at No. 6 turning out to be a meh/confusing show overall. It concentrated on a smaller cast and developed on them to the point where we were probably more interested in THEM than the overall secrets behind the story. Even though the plot overall kinda failed, the characters themselves provided enough backbone to the story that I could still say it was worth something.

At the very least, Sion's mum didn't die. That would have been the last straw.

Overall I can't say this was my favourite given the ending, but it's one of the better distopian anime out there.

Safu died. This sucks.

Still made me tear up though.
