He's fighting a downgraded Ichigo who's also holding back, hardly an impressive feat considering the overall powerlevels

I wrote here something yesterday, and now it's gone, maybe Tsukuboshima* stabbed the thread with his sword and made us all forget.

first question: why? why does Tsukuboshima bother with this? it doesn't seem to be simply a hatred of Ichigo for the sake of it, he must have some agenda.
I have a general guess, but I'll get there soon.

what I understood today is that Tsukuboshima gained considerable confidence in the past two chapters. before this chapter, he run away from facing Ichigo, and it doesn't seem that his skills increased much. sure, you can say that he wanted to make sure Orihime is on his side before fighting Ichigo, but she the first victim of his retcon sword. also, before this chapter, his self-insert fan-fiction memory was a distant friend\family member, sort of like Keigo or lesbo-glomp-girl. now, his memory revisions are placing him in the position of Ichigo, as the hero who saved everybody. I don't think it's a coincidence.
My current theory about his power: it's not just "stab & replace", it's a virus on the collective memories of them - the more people he infects, the more believed the memories are (Inoue's first reaction after the stabbing was that she vaguely felt he was an old friend, now he's practically the center of her existence).

Tsukuboshima is trying to weasel himself into the memories of Ichigo for a reason - I suspect it's to get close to Uruhara (wasn't he mentioned somewhere in this arc?), and he wants to build up his credentials by infecting people from the bottom up.
I won't rule out the possibily that he's a fragment of Aizen that wants to start over, and created the entire fullbring shabang through the power of the hogkyu. stab enough Shinigami's and rewrite the history to release Aizen from his prison.

does fullbring even work against spirit bodies?
