It looks to me that at one point that tornado took a turn and came right at him, it looked only 100 yards away!
After the tornado passes you can see the rear flank downdraft, which is the wind that is getting sucked into the funnel for the tornado. Absolutely insane.

I hate to be the wet blanket, but I'm not big on these "storm chasers" unless they're doing it for scientific causes.

Maybe my point of reference is off, but when exactly in the video is the storm that close to the cameraman?

I agree fully, the kid is an idiot. But, we may as well enjoy the moment since he provided it for us.
It looks to me that the tornado is maybe a hundred yards from him at 4:30. I base this on the observation that
the tornado appears to surpass the building that is in the parking lot adjacent to his car.
He appears to be maybe 3 or 4 spots lengthwise from a small road. then the other (midsized) parking lot then the building that is enveloped. Also, he experiences a wicked rear flank downdraft which hints at how close he is.

The guy thinks his car is the ultimate protection.
He's just lucky.

When in doubt, run away from any potential danger.

I wish he had a henchman driving the car. Now the camera was pointed at nowhere relevant for long times.

I wish people understood this about filming disasters when they criticized Cloverfield so heavily.

I just heard about this on ESPN. They said there were 400 people injured and 32 confirmed deaths. That guy is crazy.

Edit: 281 killed across the South by tornadoes (http://content.usatoday.com/communities/ondeadline/post/2011/04/ala-governor-tornado-killed-at-least-131-with-death-toll-likely-to-rise/1)
