"Based on Katou Kazue's Ao no Exorcist manga serialized in Jump Square.
This world consists of two dimensions joined as one, like a mirror. The first is the world in which the humans live, Assiah. The other is the world of demons, Gehenna. Ordinarily, travel between the two, and indeed any kind of contact between the two, is impossible. However the demons can pass over into this world by possessing anything that exist within it.
Satan is the god of demons; but there's one thing that he doesn't have, and that's a substance in the human world that is powerful enough to contain him! For that purpose he created Rin, his son from a human woman, but will his son agree to his plans? Or will he become something else...? An exorcist?" -AniDB

This was one of the shows I was looking forward to this season. Although for no more glorious reason than the numerous commercials gg left in the Star Driver eps. However, the first thing I noticed was the main character, Rin, being voiced by Nobuhiko Okamoto (http://www.animenewsnetwork.com/encyclopedia/people.php?id=59411), who also voiced Accelerator in Index. And while the S2 of Index left much to be desired, crazy Accelerator wasn't one of them. And in the Ao trailers he sounded similar. Well, there are also people like Jun Fukuyama (http://www.animenewsnetwork.com/encyclopedia/people.php?id=337) (Lelouch) in the cast, along with the currently very popular Kana Hanazawa (http://www.animenewsnetwork.com/encyclopedia/people.php?id=53741).
Anyway, for those not interested in VAs, this episode seemed interesting enough for me, even though Archie was trying to frighten us by suggesting it's filler right off the bat. However, this season hasn't presented that many interesting action shows, so I forgive this first episode the slow introduction feeling it conveyd (no matter if it actually is filler or not). The basic setting really isn't so complicated it would have required intros, but fortunately this did have a few good scenes. The quality overall was what one would expect from stock shounen.
I'll keep watching for now, hoping Rin will turn if not as crazy as Accelerator, then at least something close to it.

A proactive main character with a crazed voice is a plus. He did veer a bit close to emo a few times but I hope it was only to signify how much the priest/father dude meant to him and in the future eps he will only try to kick ass.

This was a promising episode. I'm also glad Yukio got so quickly over himself, considering how unreasonable it was to blame Rin who knew - or still knows - next to nothing about anything, yet carries already the heaviest burden. Though of course there's still the possibility Yukio got over nothing yet and only regained his composure and put on the same mask he had in the beginning of the ep. It would be somewhat sad to watch him plot against Rin, but time will tell.
Those two living alone in such a big dorm building would be boring, so I hope other people will move in. Girls, preferably.

Mon, 05-02-2011, 01:46 AM
I think Yukio got over it. There's really be no point of finishing this talk otherwise - and like you said it'd be really shitty to have this going throughout the storyline. Fight some "real' demons.
I want to see some cross-overs between True Cross High School and the Exorcist Cram school. Too bad it doesn't seem like too many students do both.
The other thing that pleased me was that Rin's ears are sealed until he releases his powers. Pointy ears only look good under certain conditions. Girls, preferably.

GG Episode 4 Patch (http://dl.dropbox.com/u/6430958/scripts/AoEx4v2.7z)
You need to rename the AoEx4v2.vcdiff file to AoEx1v2.xdelta for the patch to work.
GG fails even at making patches. LOL.
Loved episode 4 btw.
EDIT:
Wow... the patch not only repairs the mameshiba crap subs running over the show... it also sends the commercial to the start. Anyone got any way to delete that shit from the episodes?

Mon, 05-09-2011, 11:11 AM
So.. no patch > patch? lol.
I was surprised Rin didn't try to get to the back of the demon so Yuki could shoot it from behind. (or that Yuki didn't come up with such a plan - but if he had nutrient bullets loaded anyway he must have planned it from the start).
Kraco
Mon, 05-09-2011, 11:29 AM
Yeah, it was a weird battle. I could forgive Rin for not having any strategy at all since he's so hotheaded. But Yuki certainly is the intelligent type and I was expecting him to only ask Rin for assistance to get a diversion. Although looking at it from another point of view, having Rin first pester the demon with straightforward action could have been a simple tactic to make it hesitate when faced with Yuki's cold demeanour. If that was the case, and considering Yuki's personality, it's likely, then the whole thing went according to his plan.

So.. no patch > patch? lol.
Well... its more annoying to have the mameshiba subs running over the episode than having the mameshiba at the start of the episode.
I think I'll google a big of this patches to see if I can delete the mameshiba without having to edit the whole timing of the script. If the patch messed up the chaptering and the episode was left intact... I hope I can come with a way to delete the commercial completely. From this series, Madoka and Star Driver. If it involves having to edit the timing... I'll just have to forget it =P

up to episode four as well.
I guess having nob-lethal bullets is standard procedure when you're dealing with enemies who take over bodies. although most demons seem to go for direct possession rather than planting themselves inside.
maybe Yukio always has those bullets ready because he knows there will be a time he must 'shoot' Rin? like Danny and Nicolas in "Hot Fuzz".

I didn't like the fact Yukio was ready to shot his brother if he displayed his demon powers. Its kinda ridiculous they act like that because he is a demon when its way obvious that Mephito Pheles is also one. Yukio is either an hypocrite or way dumb.
Buffalobiian
Wed, 05-18-2011, 08:32 AM
Well, he's only looking out for everyone. His first comment was that "the students were safe", meaning he was prioritising the students' safety over protecting the secret that Rin was Satan's son.
As for Mephito, I think he's a demon, but not Satan's son. Perhaps all demons refer to each other as brothers.

Wed, 05-18-2011, 09:13 AM
I don't usually do down this route to defend characters' actions, but since I'm anyway continuously reminding myself of the fact Yukio is the younger brother of the two, even being ready to shoot his brother is not out of the question. Furthermore, he has been brainwashed taught by the exorcists since very young age, making him more easily impressed by the real powers and distanced from Rin. I reckon he's genuinely divided between saving his brother and saving the world as equally worthy causes. In fact supporting Rin even this much already goes beyond what many kids in his position would do, considering real or imagined (since not so many yet know who Rin really is) pressure from outside.

Having a minor interest in cooking myself, I don't mind cooking episodes, but still this felt a bit uneventful.
I guess the only thing that came out of this episode was a confirmation of the fact Yukio draws his gun eagerly, so the scene in the previous ep is reduced in significance, in my opinion. Rin attempting to unsheathe the sword repeatedly is of course no wonder considering his nerves are no better than a rodeo bull's.

Jolly good action and I'm also glad Shiemi got a useful power. It's actually a really powerful power as well if she goes down the most obvious specialization, and why wouldn't she.
I hope she can become real friends with Eyebrows. Shiemi spoke the truth when she said she can't rely on Rin (who the heck would want to rely academically on that dolt) or Yukio (who's actually a teacher), and thus having someone competent like Eyebrows as a friend would help. Even if it was a tsundere friend like Archie hoped...

I was expecting Rin to show ability to summon since he's the son of you-know-who. Interestingly, these demons both recognise and respect Rin. The only exceptions so far have been the garden monster from the other episode, and Mephisto. I'm discounting the foxes and the chibi cactus thing since they don't seem to recognise much other than their master.

Can a demon even summon another demon? If they could, the other demon would summon yet another one and so on.
And i don't think any demon would recognize Rin, not without the blue flames anyway. The only ones who did were already aware of his identity or could read minds/souls.

--------------------------------------
So.. how the hell does Satan have a son with a human? By the time he's climaxing, that guy must be one bloody mess (and one hell of an Exorcist - I thought only Yukio's dad was strong enough to be a vessel). The very fact that he was trying to take over all these clergymen meant he needed a body for sure. Perhaps he only needed one for long enough to open up a gate, drag Yukio's mum into there and have his demon ways with her.
It seems weird for Shiemi to be first and foremost a Tamer before being a Doctor, considering that she only needed to summon that little cactus once.
The fact that the other two fellows did absolutely nothing yet passed is a farce, unless they were doing their own Exorcist thing behind everyone's back...

It seems weird for Shiemi to be first and foremost a Tamer before being a Doctor, considering that she only needed to summon that little cactus once.
I think she would have the talents and wits for a double degree. There's no question of her qualification for being a Doctor, yet she has also mastered her summoned demon practically perfectly.
The fact that the other two fellows did absolutely nothing yet passed is a farce, unless they were doing their own Exorcist thing behind everyone's back...
Considering the principal himself is a one big farce, I wouldn't think overly deeply about it.
Other than that, I'm a little disappointed Shiemi didn't already notice Rin's true nature. But maybe it would have been too early and I suppose the author wants to utilize a few close encounters.

the doctor\tamer thing seems to be pretty much overlapping for her.
she needs the little guy to get her plants right on the spot, and it doesn't seem as if it has any real firepower to actually be used as an offensive summon. and needles defiantly aren't her thing.
also, seeing how demon summoning requires a complete array drawn on the floor, I think getting some paint bullets\balloons would do wonder to the efficiency.

--------------------------------------
I've been looking forward to this. Too many times has Rin relied on his inherited demon abilities (be it one-hit-kill or the ability to understand other demons) and just pretty much impressed everyone with it. Take away his sword, get someone who can match his physical abilities and he's sitting duck (saved by his pretty-much-immortal body). It's not that I dislike Rin, but he needs to wake up now and take his promise seriously to become an Exorcist.
I can't really blame him for being shit with a sword despite going for Knight class (since it was pretty much "Oh, btw, you're a demon - and here's your sword. Use it well"), but he needs to learn, and so far we haven't seen a single teacher who could teach him kenjutsu. Admittadly we have only seen teachers of about 3 or 4 disciplines yet (Arias, Tamers, Dragoons, Doctors), so it may well be my inpatience kicking in.
Still, unless this is planning to be a longer running series (36+ eps) they should really start building him up now.
Izumo's cool and all but........RIN LIKES BOOBS!! He didn't bat an eyelash at her in that bathroom.. compared to these two she's history.

Shiemi looked good in the normal uniform. I think that was the main point of this ep. The secondary point was what Bill mentioned: Rin got the much needed power level check. Although I'm not that sure I like the lithium antagonist that performed the check. But then again, maybe that detached, nonchalant attitude was one more thing to vex Rin.

I wouldn't say is't inappropriate. The girl would be the one to teach Rin about proper tactics and sword skills to fight against human-like opponents, but the Kuro would be a great start just for Rin to fight someone who isn't phased by his strength and is able to physically brawl with him to develop his "fighting sense" to so speak.
It seems like ever since that heart rib-breaking moment back when Rin was little, he's been trying his best to not get in a fight. No wonder he sucks with a sword, now that you think back.

It seems to me like he switched to berserk mode after his love interest was seriously threatened. But berserk mode always works (at least until it's time to stop), so it's all good. It will be really interesting to see the consequences, also with his friends. I doubt Shiemi will care - she's kind of weird herself, but with the others.

It's kind of weird how the Vatican would be surprised to hear of a demon attacking them. I would have thought there'd be demons with some decent strength who would want to get rid of it. They should be plenty powerful enough. The only thing have lacking against humans is the concept of strategic warfare with a proper chain of command and goal.

I'm not sure and don't remember where it was said either but I'm pretty sure they stated that there are barriers preventing demons to enter which was the reason Amaimon needed a key to enter True Cross academy, though if I'm not wrong that barrier was was created by Mephisto.
KrayZ33

True Cross Academy =/= Vatican
I'm not sure where the court is held and if there are wards and barriers similiar to those in True Cross Academy.
however, I don't see why it is suppossed to be NOT suprising that someone like Amaimon attacks a True Cross bastion.
Holy Ground / lots of Exorcists etc
from what we know its extremely difficult for demons to get access to Assiah
otherwise Satan wouldn't need Rin

lol, fair enough. When you say "access", I wasn't sure whether you meant via possession, or just coming in and having a walk like Amaimon and Mephisto can.
Just the way those people were talking (Amaimon's here! What's he doing here?) as if he needs a reason to be here. Who needs to give a demon a reason to take down the Vatican?
KrayZ33
Fri, 08-05-2011, 09:38 AM
its probably more likely that they are suprised that someone like Amaimon was able to get in there so suddently
or maybe that one of hell's generals is charging directly into the True Cross' main base, maybe its considered suicide or impossible due to certain barriers and wards.
or maybe its a somewhat hidden or concealed room/base.
only accessable through those keys which mephisto(?) created.
I don't know but it seems like its somewhat rare for demons to attack them directly like that

Again because of the barriers, if a big shot like Amaimon couldn't get into the True Cross Academy without a key from Mephisto then it's more than likely that the main headquarters is at least equally fortified. This leaves us with the logical conclusion that demons can't get in without permission/stolen keys or that if they get in they break though the barrier they have to be an even bigger big shot than Amaimon.

That would make sense if they said "how did he get in here", instead of "What would the Earth King be doing here?". The first implies that he can't physically be here, and there must have been some flaw or betrayal that resulted in it. The latter implies that he wouldn't normally be here unless he's some unknown objective (which isn't destroying the Vatican).
Compare to Shura's words in episode 13, ~19:45: "How could a big fish like you get into the Academy?"

True but from what I can hear they say, "Naze koko ni" which if I'm not wrong pretty much says "why's he here", which as you said can mean he wouldn't have a reason to be there but it sounds more like the "how did he get in here" type of line than the latter. Also seeing as Amaimon kinda listens to Mephisto it can also be that Amaimon have done some work for the Vatican before but more like a freelance demon which makes them wonder why he would attack them.

From what I could see, not that I'd make such a big deal out of it, is that their choice of words was analogous to: "Why did the storm hit us when the weather forecast said it would pass us by 200 km." I reckon Amaimon, Mephisto, and their ilk are basically eternal (foes), just like Satan himself, and thus more like a force of nature Vatican cannot destroy for good, only try to thwart. Based on their words, though, they simply didn't expect Amaimon to come knock their doors. I guess he hasn't before.

Archangel
Fri, 08-05-2011, 04:47 PM
Kraco and I had a little back and forth on that one
[20:53] <Arkangel> Kraco
[20:53] <Kraco> ?
[20:53] <Arkangel> It's not a spoiler if the anime is taking a different route right?
[20:54] <Kraco> That depends. Plus it's a fact the anime only watchers might not want to know it beforehand.
[20:54] <Arkangel> Well... it's annoying though
[20:54] <Arkangel> They're discussing the hell out of a discrapancy in the ao exorcist thread when it's just that
[20:55] <Arkangel> A discrepancy
[20:55] <Arkangel> The manga never featured Amaimon breaking into the vatican
[20:55] <Kraco> I see.
[20:56] <Kraco> Then it would be useless to even mention that, though, right? It would be irrelevant if it never happened in the manga.
[20:57] <Arkangel> I'm just saying... discussion could be better served on other matters
[20:57] <Kraco> I'm happy there's discussion at all.
[20:58] <Arkangel> It's fruitless though
[20:58] <Kraco> And nothing prevent you from posting something else. Whether it catches or not is not predetermined.
[20:59] <Kraco> If the anime and manga diverged for good, it's not fruitless. The manga will have no meaning anymore.
[20:59] <Arkangel> neither will discussion on matters with no explanation at all
[20:59] <Arkangel> have any meaning*
[21:00] <Kraco> I don't get your point at all. It's a discussion forum and people are discussing, even on topic to boot. What's there to complain about?
[21:01] <Arkangel> There's no real answer
[21:01] <Arkangel> So what's the point in discussing it?
[21:02] <Kraco> If there was an answer readily available, it would have been a really short discussion.
[21:02] <Arkangel> Discussion should have a purpose
[21:02] <Arkangel> To reach a conclusion
[21:03] <Kraco> That's not true at all, especially considering Gotwoot, which is a place for entertainment above all.
[21:03] <Arkangel> So the means justify the ends?
[21:03] <Arkangel> Or the lack of them
[21:03] <Kraco> Life is full of discussions that won't really reach any sort of conclusive ending. They just terminate on their own at some point.
[21:05] <Arkangel> Then we'd all benefit from spending our time on more fruitful endeavours
[21:05] <Arkangel> I'm doing everyone a favour :D
[21:06] <Kraco> If we all thought only about spending our time on more fruitful endeavours, we would stop watching anime, abandon Gotwoot, and develop ourselves physically and mentally.
[21:07] <Arkangel> I'm already doing that
[21:07] <Arkangel> Gotwoot is my cheat day

But the rules on thread http://forums.gotwoot.net/showthread.php/13928-Gotwoot-Policy-on-Spoilers still stand
Gotwoot Policy on Spoilers
It has recently come to our attention that spoilers are bad. It has also come to our attention that some Gotwooters are bad about knowing what does or does not constitute a spoiler. Therefore we're happy to bring to you the official:
Gotwoot Forums Policy on Spoilers
No spoiling is allowed on this forum whatsoever. Spoiling is regarded as providing information that would be otherwise unknown to the anime-only watcher by a person that has acquired such information from outside sources, for example the manga.
Those posts and/or comments that would be regarded as spoilers are, but are not limited to:
Anything which reveals the solution of a current problem or puzzle, thus denying the reader the pleasure of working out the correct answer.
Anything which reveals future, un-seen as of yet plot elements, thus denying the reader the proper suspense when reading the book or watching the movie.
Identifying whether a character is in/not in the manga, especially when the comment reveals whether a character will become important in the future of the anime.
Any reference to a person, place, or thing that is either in the manga and/or not yet in the anime. If it is in the anime, it is a remark that makes it out to be something that has not been shown yet.
Any reference to an unsubbed episode/chapter of an anime/manga.
But seeing as this is not being followed, I guess its better to stop reading this thread.

Looks like it. Regardless of whether this is following the manga or not (and that includes whether it's back on track or not), this episode went pretty well.
My only problem with it was how Rin just destroyed Amaimon in a single stroke without much explanation. He was owning him before, but it wasn't quite 1-hit-kill level of ownage. Plus, the Earth King was in his full mode, which should only mean that he's more powerful.

They haven't had a chance to talk at all ever since the incident. People who strongly desire something, are desperate to protect something, have a strong sense of justice yet lack experience and so end up seeing things black and white. I don't quite get why Rin meekly walked to be crucified instead of fighting back like he usually does.
Everything also happened too fast. This sort of plot should have taken a season worth of episodes to build slowly and nefariously, not only a few eps.

That certainly explains everything: They went to Studio Pierrot and borrowed a couple of filler script writers. I should have recognized the unique excellence of the writing instead of thinking this story simply sucks towards the end.
It's funny how so many of the manga artists are so enticed by the prospect of an animation that they don't care if it ends up soiling the name of their title. I suppose that, for its own small part, tells how brutal the business is and how hard it is to make a living out of it.

That could be true, but also, maybe, at first, they are not aware that there baby is going to be butchered the way they sometimes do. I think alot of the feedback that they get from the shows changes the way it turns out.
Has it been confirmed that this is just filler? I know it has departed greatly from the manga at this point. I assumed that this was going to just be its own thing. Did you see the end of the eps? they show yukio with the blue flames! in the manga, he has shown no signs of being a demon, so I figured that this was going to be its own thing.

Most of the content after Rin got outed as the son of Satan is anime original. Filler is not a very good term since it implies content made to fill in gaps while the anime waits for more manga chapters. This diverges and takes a completely different route, much like the last part of Soul Eater.

New series announced:
http://www.animenewsnetwork.com/news/2016-06-30/blue-exorcist-manga-gets-new-tv-anime-series/.103787
This year's 31st issue of Shueisha's Weekly Shonen Jump magazine is announcing on Monday that Kazue Katō's Blue Exorcist manga is getting a new television anime series.
The official Blue Exorcist website launched a countdown earlier this month that will end on Monday at 8:00 a.m. JST (Sunday at 7:00 p.m. EDT). Katō is attending Anime Expo this weekend in Los Angeles.
Katō launched the manga in Jump SQ. magazine in 2009, and Shueisha will publish the 17th compiled volume on Monday. The manga inspired a 25-episode television anime adaptation in 2011, and an anime film in 2012.
Not sure how they'll fix all the filler/anime original crap. Hopefully they make due.
