If I recall, shadow mimic can be broken with enough chakra. This was why Shikamaru would transition to the shadow neck bind or shadow needles to more forcefully hold the target in place.

He has to find them. But teleporting won't do much, he has to sedate them as well, and these are the toughest of the tailed-beasts.

I doubt it, he found Naruto back then with no problem at ALL, with his "becoming untouchable" skill and plant guy`s chakra drain technique, they should be no problem at all, screw it, just leave them in his universe for 2 day, they`ll pass out from lack of water.
