I guess most of you know about that show, because of the preview in the 2011 Spring Anime Thread.
Just in case:

While job hunting, Naoya is taken by a mysterious girl to a magical land where he is installed in the harem of the succubus Queen Lotte. Thanks to trauma from her childhood, Lotte hates men and surrounds herself with lots of other women, who all have quirks of their own. In spite of her selfishness, when Naoya learns that Lotte is really quite lonely he agrees to stay in her world...if he can bring his daughter Asuha with him.
Some of you were wondering what the hell they would do with a 10 year old succubus that as to live on semen... Well they did clearly state those facts in Ep 1:
[ILMNW]_Astarotte_no_Omocha!_-_01_(1280x720_h264_AAC)_[B0093D42].mkv (http://www.nyaa.eu/?page=torrentinfo&tid=205555)
It was very noisy, at least the princess voiced by the same VA as Louise (Zero no Tsukaima) was very annoying.
Subs were hard to read, with a too big font and lines cut into multiple bits. But I only wanted a preview so that was enough.
I might drop this right after that very first ep... but as I know myself will probably try the second one.

This was far less... ecchi than I expected. It almost had a fairy talish feeling every now and then. I didn't find the princess annoying, in fact, which surprised me considering it's a Kugimiya loli role (and no doubt tsundere to boot). Perhaps it helps all I've of late heard (or remember hearing) from her is Happy from Fairy Tail, har har. I'd have much preferred the dude, Naoya, to have a male VA, though.
That ILMNW ripper/muxer's lack of experience was certainly showing (like David said). I'll probably just get HorribleSubs' vanilla version next time.

I watched HorribleSubs, so it wasn't as bad as the other version apparently was.
I was surprised by this show. It was a lot better than I expected it to be. Very good cast, okay animation, interesting premise that they presented in a surprisingly non-ecchi manner. My thoughts are pretty much in line with Kraco. Kugimiya wasn't that annoying because she is playing a ten year old. It fits. It's her supposedly high-schooler voices that really start to grate on me. Satou Rina (Mikoto of Index) playing an adult male is a little weird for me though.
The designs come off fresh somehow.
I also enjoyed the characters a lot. Judit is turning out to be a rather varied character between the dom equipment, her seriousness mixed in with just a hint of airhead, and enthusiasm to have Astarotte grow into a fine succubus. Astarotte fighting against her and then missing her terribly was a nice touch too.
I'm interested in seeing where this goes between Astarotte and him, and later his daughter tagging along.

If I hadn't read the description, I would have not thought that the dude was a father. An older brother at best. And since I only read the description after watching the ep, it came as a little bit of a shock.
I'm not fond of the characters, their design, or the story however, so this is 100% droppable. Granted it's not bad (or bad enough) to push me away after the first ep, so I'll keep watching for an episode or more. At this point though, if I need to free up more time or bandwidth, this show is ready to go.

At least the reason for a female VA for Naoya was revealed with the infiltration mission and on the other hand the Queen's specific demands. Other than that, the show continues to present some very interesting details like the ultimate reason behind the Queen pushing Asuha to Naoya: All heirs battle to death for the throne. It's quite remarkable how this anime mixes goofiness, lightness, and cuteness with such morbid details, which are, though, a part of the fairy talish feeling I mentioned before. It also gives a lot of weight to the Queen's inability to be there for her daughter as much as she wanted - she watched her sisters die to become the Queen, so it goes without saying it's not a mere figurehead position of lots of free time and no responsibilities.

Also, it seems Naoya is younger than in the manga, which makes him a very underaged father...

I haven't watched this show since the first episode. Is there a middle-ground here?

Depends on what you mean.
There is a really hot non-loli teacher/principal with rather small breasts, but they are not flat. So far, she is my favorite design-wise.
