I liked the mystery feeling and the quite sharp looking but largely unexplained, mystic characters. Especially so far John Do (with his awesome VA), but also Merry. Let's hope the dude learns to put his talent also to better use than simply amusing girls (not that there'd be anything wrong with that either...).

will edit this post if I like it.
pictures posted so far were pretty good looking, we'll see

edit: couldn't wait and watched it just now, wow!
I have high hopes for this show, its really mysterious and somewhat spooky
feels a bit like Alice in Wonderland for me so far, maybe because of the cats.

Hmm, objectively I liked this show (art and animation, character costume designs), but subjectively it didn't quite hit the mark. It's not bad by any means. It's probably the immersion factor again.

For one, the fish-bone CGI ticked me off ever so slightly.

Nice episode, dream eating daemons
I really like the character-art/animation, the girls look beautiful

and what the hell is up with that father, haha

didn't like the "you can stay here if you have nowhere to go" part right after they met very much
Maybe I've missed something but how could the father or the girl know that she has nowhere to go? It's not like they found her drunk in the streets.
I mean I would ask who she is/where she comes from and what happened before I tell her something like that.

Nah, the father was cool. Because he was voiced by Ali Al-Saachez's VA.

Besides, it's obvious a girl that weird has nowhere to go - unless it's back to some unspoken laboratory.

Nah, the father was cool. Because he was voiced by Ali Al-Saachez's VA

-Has a scar
-Has awesome hair
-Smokes casually
-Of mature age
-Stays up late at night (but not playing games)
-Does not pry, yet knows enough to say what he needs to say

Everything that makes a male character cool? I think so. (except maybe sunglasses).

On the other hand, Merry hasn't quite got my support. If there's one thing that puts me off female character designs (besides oversized bosoms, thick lips and braided hair), it's fangs.

Why couldn't Isana be the main lead :(

Well, looks like we've made it to the formalizing of the Dream Demon Fighting Duo. Merry with her fighting skills, and her little sidekick to find out where they will appear. We've also been given a little look at what looks like the End Boss character from the dream world. I foresee a number of predictable 'dream demon of the week' type episodes, with each one dropping little hints until the End Boss is reached and confronted, Merry's past is revealed, etc. etc. I can't say I'm expecting much from this series plot-wise, but it's entertaining enough that I'll probably keep watching.

Kraco
Tue, 02-01-2011, 05:51 PM
Indeed. That very thing got me worried during this ep. Although, to be honest, we never really learned why she wants to get back. The most likely reason is simply homesickness and feeling alienated in the corporeal world. However, if friends and good food are something she never experienced back home, she could quickly find excuses not to hurry back after all.

At least Merry still adamantly said she wants to get back. Although at the same time she was very happily shopping for the first time.

Play did bring some heavy news, in any case, though I see no reason to immediately believe everything she said. Even less so considering she was herself doing the same time she accused others of. "You scumbags slew my sister, so now I'm going around random slaying anybody I find" makes such a sane and trustworthy case.

Nadouku

If Play wasn't insane about her revenge, she and Merry could actually be a very strong team.

Oh man, how long did I wait to see such a heroic intervention again.
I liked every second, this episode was truely well done.
Merry and that girl were really cute this time around (whats that new girl VA btw? her voice was so calming)

What I don't get though, why is she so sure that there is no way back from the real world to the dream world?
her sister was like "I'm going to tell you everything when I get back" (without a vessel btw?) and she went there knowing there is no turning back?

I guess we don't know everything yet, especially who that Elcres guy is. if its the demon who killed her sister I wonder how she could know about it, I mean if there is no way back, doesn't that mean that there is also no way to recieve such information?

oh and: "AWESOME, a sliding safe"

Next week will be the obligatory beach (fanservice) episode... I guess even a series like this can't avoid it.

Anyway, Chaser John Doe was cool in this ep, and quite a pimp having those catgirls hanging around. I assume the school friend (with the creepy eyes) bringing the dvd is the vessel of the dangerous demon Chaser mentioned - or it was just a big troll.

Merry getting all emotional wasn't bad either.

Chaser was bad ass.

I wanted to see a scene where the MC wakes up, then Merry hugs him in relief (like she did), but then everyone walks in and misunderstands, but Merry won't let go.

God I love Chaser.

they did a good job in making him a mysterious character
goals, alignment (ally of truth?), reasons? I can't tell

however, he sure has a nice cat-girl harem there.

It would be awesome if Chaser gives Yumeji some kind of power in the future, so he can fight alongside Merry
maybe Chaser makes Yumeji his vessel after all and it will make him something similiar to the "second" Greed in FMA, just the other way around (Chaser is the voice in his mind and Yumeji is the one in charge)

The animation this week looks nice again, really "fluent"

I was pleasantly surprised at this episode. Less cookie-cutter, slightly more interesting. I liked the transformation with the keys around her wrists, probably signifying the ability to 'unlock' any dream and control it. Each dream demon seems to be completely in control of their own dream environment, but Merry seems to be able to manipulate it, and in this case, rip it apart as she wills. The whole all-too-convenient "I don't remember what happened" anime ploy means we'll have to wait for something else extreme to happen before we see Merry call upon this ability again.

No praise for Yumeji? I personally find Yumeji to be an awesome male lead. This guy really has some backbone, his conviction to help a stranger get back home in his no-emo, upbeat attitude. And the courage to carry it through despite some intense situations, unlike another lead this season ....*Ahem*Madoka*Ahem*.

As for the show, the story hasn't really hooked me yet, but its getting better. I can see a lot of plot lines converging, Treesea, lighthouse demon, John Doe, Mysterious transfer student, rice eating sensei, pre-amnesia Merry, Play and someone else mentioned poem dude as well. So far these threads are independently building up, but I feel that DEM will start getting awesome once these threads start to interweave. I for one will definitely be tagging along for the ride to see what happens. Just seeing the interaction between Yumeji and Merry, that in itself is well worth the time invested.

Asshole Sensei. Treesea's not only a sadist towards dream demons, but humans too. Her actions are seemingly pointless overall other than to satisfy her killing pleasure (creating dreams, planting demons into a vessel after such a dream is created, crushing it completely after it happens).

From memory, the Literacy Club president didn't become a walking zombie after having her Demon "sent back" by Merry, so something about her method of "killing" is definitely different from Play's

Kraco

Yeah, he became increasingly suspicious alongside his increasing interest in dreams.

Yumeji really needs to make some decisions and come up with something. Merry's willpower doesn't seem overly steadfast so he needs to give her (back) a dream, not only listen to the words of their enemies. In that sense Isana getting targeted and infected couldn't have happened at a better time. That will force his hand.

I'm far from sure Yumeji still has actually reached a decision. I fear he plans simply to face the demon and... well, hope for a miracle. But since the preview suggests Treesea will move soon, I'm pleased simply by the prospect they will be forced to do something or lose Isana in any case. If inaction means a defeat, then they might as well try.

What comes to this episode, I hated how Yumeji, from an outside observer's pov, behaved like somebody trying to make the last moments of a dying patient as comfortable as possible. I suppose that was a natural thing to do - if you believe there are no chances.

That makes 2 bosses..

The only thing Yumeji can do is give Merry the confidence that it's alright to 'send them back'. Or act as a human shield.

I'm not yet convinced we have seen all of Yumiji's powers or that Merry can't do fancier tricks again, like she did after Yumeji had been wounded. Not all shows need to be tainted by shounen power-ups, of course, but we simply still know very little.

What the heck... that was the end? Looks like this series lived up to my original forecast of disappointment after all. It made me believe for a little bit in the middle there that maybe it could turn into something worthwhile, but it never happened. And suddenly Merry can turn dream demons into golden sparkles that sends them back home and shatter the bad guys, and tagged on the end the bit about humans being able to have lots of dreams, so for the people who lost their dreams its no big deal because they can just have some new ones now. That little addendum really undermines the entirety of what they were fighting for. This whole series was choppy, disorganized, and full of cheesy tag-lines but no real character development. The premise had potential, but the execution was greatly lacking. It wasn't horrible or anything, just very generic and forgettable. I give this series a rating of 'Meh'.

I wouldn't even give it that. With the gradual degradation of the animation, I'd give it a "Peh."
