This was, for an unknown reason, actually a series I paid attention to when the first lists of the autumn shows appeared. Maybe because it sounded so stupid. And it ended up being pretty stupid as well, but fortunately on purpose. The Squid Girl is quite an airhead, even if also pretty capable whenever she actually tries something, so the invasion success probability doesn't seem too high but I'm sure a lot of stuff will happen in the story nevertheless. It's a very light series, which also seems to apply to the production values, so a (Minami-Ke) warning of not expecting too much from it would have been appropriate.

The main role is voice acted by Hisako Kanemoto (http://www.animenewsnetwork.com/encyclopedia/people.php?id=80692) (Kanata Sorami of Sora no Woto), who seems to be quite new to voice acting without too many roles. But she's supported by veterans like of Ayumi Fujimura (http://www.animenewsnetwork.com/encyclopedia/people.php?id=53711) (Misaki of Kaichou) and Rie Tanaka (http://www.animenewsnetwork.com/encyclopedia/people.php?id=697) (Sammy of Eve no Jikan).

I'll keep watching for now. Fulfills the silly show of the season quota.

Edit: I suggest choosing the FFFPeeps version. I watched the EMO release (which was out first) and I had to edit the font styling and remux to make the subs bearable.

It was really dumb, but I needed that after today at work. The background noise her tentacles make when she runs around is kinda gross though.

It needs a little something though, it's not really grabbing me, but it is close. I'll stick around for a bit though, the middle of the week is fairly empty for me.

The irony of her throwing her "comrade" (made of paper and ribbons) into the sea was priceless though. I'd feel bad if she ever found out about what she had done there.

Tried that one, laughed a bit with the squid ink. But that's all, unfortunately.
Like many other shows, you have a catchy idea for first ep, sometimes you get only mildly caught and have to let go.
I'll pile it up for days when I'm bored. After all, it's quite fresh.

This isn't really a series generating much discussion material. With slice-of-life there's also always the worry in the background that they run out of ideas. Of course that's no fate, though, and many series run for a long time while coming up with new stuff. I liked the second ep so much I'm anything but worried. The new characters are funny as well.

Squid Girl has a very entertaining combination of hapless airheadedness resulting in her prompt victimization in any situation and the invader mentality that rarely seems to produce any results. It's so much funnier than a generic cute airhead taken advantage of.

The last part of this ep was great. You could really feel Squid Girl's happiness when she realised there finally appeared a human afraid of her! Although the new girl appeared quite a racist by maintaining her fear and hatred for so long, almost too much like so, but it was still funny to see someone intimidated by Ika Musume.

Still a splendid series. Three eps in it hasn't lost any of its shine.

I totally understand the new girl's POV though. Ika musume and her monstrous tentacles should be frightening despite her loli kawaii appearance, especially if you don't know about the more frightening older sister right beside you.

I loved the face Ika musume made when she realized the girl was afraid of her. I like it so much I made it into my avatar. I don't know how to describe the expression though.

I'm really happy by the subtle consistency Ika Musume's character shows. While she has the undeniable human qualities, she still possess quite fundamental animal instincts she seems to be able to suppress very poorly. Like how she used the whole money to buy shrimp and how she acknowledges Chizuru as a superior predator and simply can't ignore her to any degree.

The human shrimp was certainly a weird sight.

The human shrimp, quite hoping she would be kissed after the way she saw Ika delivering her affections on the bags she had bought, was just creepy. Nothing more, nothing less. Just creepy, especially considering how hot the box must have been.

I liked how Eiko sent Ika and Nagisa out to make them become friendlier, where Chizuru thought it was because it would be funny.

We better see more of the hot fake-Ika.

The mini-Ika thing was cute. Sad at the same time, but still very well done, particularly in having little to no dialogue. It figures that Sanae would have that kind of dream. For some reason it felt better animated than the normal parts. The part where mini-Ika was crashing into the tanks walls definitely caught my eye.

The rest was just more weirdos and more of Ika being stupid. All in all, a strong episode.

This was a great episode, Eiko and Chizuru not wanting to lose Ika because of her being their servant was funny. Mini-ika was ridiculously cute and surprisingly very emotional toward the end. Being Sanae's dream was a funny twist at the end.

As stretched as it's getting, I'm still happy Nagisa didn't get over her everlasting fear. Cyndi's laboratory was a bit of a letdown but of course it fits the series' lowkey humour.

I loved this series. The well executed humour works great - and (sort of) breaking the 7-minute arc rule for the final episode really made it special. Ika leaving for an extended period of time was unexpected, but how she recovered certainly wasn't.

There's too many mini-arcs for me to remember and accurately pinpoint my favourites, but the Mini-Ika-Musume one probably takes the crown. That said, I loved the awesome volleyball finish.

The lenghtened arc was indeed good and needed for the final episode. I was expecting an arc where Ika goes back to the ocean, but considering the comedic nature of this show, it would have been strange if she had simply disappeared never to be seen again, leaving all those folks that had grown to like her (despite her foul invader behavior) in sadness. That being said, I didn't expect her to suddenly lose her squid powers without an explanation...

A fine series all in all. One of the best of this soon to be past season. The nonsensical humour suited me well.

In addition to her tentacles, her manner of speech ending sentences with “de geso” and “-nai ka?” added further uniqueness to her character, whom Kanemoto Hisako brought to life in an unbelievable cute way. Then there’s mini Ika Musume, who was so warmly received by viewers that bonus episodes of her are planned for the DVD/BD releases

Fun episode, good way to get back into things. The first short was a smart way to reintroduce the cast and side characters.

Yeah, they surely have some serious high tech at the bottom of the ocean. Maybe the crazy scientists were correct, after all, and Ika is in fact an alien. It's a pretty good detail, nonetheless, that they addressed the issue of a little girl being able to lift considerably heavy objects.

At first I thought the bracelet would instead have something to do with buoyancy since Ika's from the sea. Becoming lighter would help her lift something while swimming, but it won't have the same potency as becoming heavy and lifting something while anchored to the floor. It's really more a land feature than a sea one. Just thought that was interesting..

You'd think Gorou would have already known better than to try to officially recruit Ika. She only manages to pull off the restaurant work somehow because Chizuru is present to remind of the dire alternatives. Otherwise she's far too alien to be relied on.

Knowing Ika's straight-forward manner, I would have thought she'd tell Goro about the broken glass in the water. That bit was the weirdest part for me, but it was needed to make the episode work.

The English speaking portion was too embarrassing to watch. Especially when Eiko gave up and switched to Japanese, yet Cindy still heard it as English despite knowing Japanese perfectly as well. Quite creative, though, to give Cindy a second voice actor to make her English believable. The ending with the tourist was a good finish.

Totally didn't expect to see mini-Ika musume there. That alone made my day. I find it very strange that Ika Musume has that much charisma that the kids will want her to play with them even though they can no longer play properly with her around.

Despite that, I'm most impressed by the English arc - particularly at the skill required to integrate both languages into jokes like that. That is, unless Japan has a book of "words that can sound confusing in English" or the like.

I liked the English arc overall, but it was a little jarring for Cindy to have a totally different VA. The English one didn't really sound like her normal VA (Nabatame Hitomi) at all.

To be honest I was never a huge fan of mini-Ika. The first time we saw her had nice novelty but after that I somewhat hoped it would remain the only time.

I liked mini-Ika, and I'll always welcome more. I think the main issue with that last one was that she was in Gorou's dream... which doesn't really make too much sense.
It makes as much sense as the first time that Eiko had the dream. Ika is invading people's dreams, one at a time. Why Gorou dreamt about Eiko (instead of Chizuru) is the question, and it's the same reason that Sanae expressed her distress that the dream didn't have her in it, but had Eiko as well. It's a running gag.

Ultimately, I'm with Kraco. It was nice the first few times, but if they're going to keep doing it ever third episode, it is going to get stale fast.
