Game: Street Fighter X Tekken

Capcom's Yoshinori Ono announced that Street Fighter X Tekken, a tag team crossover game with 2D gameplay was in development at Capcom. The game will feature a number of fighters from Namco's similarly successful fighting franchise, including Kazuya and Nina Williams.

Namco Bandai is releasing Tekken X Street Fighter, which will be developed in-house at Namco, and spearheaded by long-time franchise producer Katsuhiro Harada. Both titles will be released for 360 and PS3.

According to reports and rumors:

One game is Street Fighter x Tekken (SF "cross" Tekken) that plays as 3D models in a 2D plane. Play style similar to SF4, with the Tekken characters either gaining projectiles or modifications to their moves to destroy/break through projectiles.

The other game is Tekken x Street Fighter (Tekken "cross" SF). This one would convert the Street Fighter characters into full 3D for a more Tekken-style game. There are nearly no other details on this game.

Capcom is developing Street Fighter X Tekken and Namco developing Tekken X Street Fighter. Nothing is really known about Tekken X Street Fighter at this time.

Famitsu.com interviewed Ono.

Development on the game began just one or two months prior, said Ono, although they began real discussions about the project with Namco Bandai about one year back.

Getting into the game itself, the site asked Ono what we can expect as far as characters go. Ono would only mention the characters who were shown in the demo session: Chun-Li, Ryu, Kazuya and Nina. However, he added that they're currently thinking about putting in the early generation characters from each franchise.

Detailing the gameplay, Ono said that the staff is thinking about making the game 2 on 2. He joked that for someone his age, Marvel vs Cacom's 3 on 3 fights is just too much.

The basics of 8-way lever and 6 button input system won't change. However, Ono said that he'd like to add something that he referred to as an "assist" feature. He said the iPhone version of SFIV has somewhat of an answer to this desire -- a feature that lets players feel that they were able to do tough moves.

Regarding a release time frame, Ono said that the target is to release the game two yeas after its announcement. He expects the next time frame for a major announcement to be next year's Captivate (a Capcom private event held every April in America). The reason for such an early announcement at Comic-Con was because Capcom wanted to do something for the fans.

Most of Ono's comments concerned just the Capcom side of the tie-up. This version will likely come out first, said Ono.

Development on the two sides are being handled completely separate of one another. In fact, the staff has agreed to not share information between the teams. The Capcom side will be doing their own designs for the Namco Bandai characters, and the Namco Bandai side will be doing their own designs for the Capcom characters. They're also working separately on the gameplay side.

Ono joked that the Namco Bandai team would be none-the-wiser if the Capcom designers made Nina appear in the game naked, and likewise for Chun-Li in the other version. He also joked that they're interested in seeing which version will get rewarded a Platinum score in Famitsu.

Capcom's upcoming crossover fighter is more crossed over than previously thought. At Sony's E3 Media Briefing today, the company announced Street Fighter X Tekken would arrive for the newly renamed Vita handheld in addition to the previously announced PlayStation 3 version.

On top of that, the game will feature Infamous protagonist Cole McGrath and his arsenal of electric powers. Capcom announced that Cole will be "a playable character exclusive to SCE platforms," so looks like he's on PS3 too!

Pretty cool trailer, though kinda odd hearing Hwoarang speak english....on that note though, kickass to hear Abel speaking french! I hope it's persistant and we can get chun li speaking chinese.

I'm hoping they have Karin and Rolento from the Alpha/Zero series in this game. I was very disappointed when Karin wasn't included in either Super or AE. I wanted her in as Sakura's rival.

On the Tekken side it looks like Steve and Emilie are in, so I'm happy with that. I'd like to use a team of Karin and Emilie. A team of the two rich girls :).

Yes, Pac-Man and Mega Man are indeed tossing their heads/helmets in the ring. These two join Cole (from inFamous) and the Kuro/Toro cats for a total of five Sony-exclusive characters on that platform. However, both 'Men arrive in altered forms, making their appearances in SFxT totally unique to this game.



If you're like me, you may be wondering, "w... why that version of Mega Man?" Well, in the spirit of crossover fun, the dev team wanted both Capcom and Namco's mascots to join the fray in a slightly silly, goofy way. Pac-Man riding Mokujin is about as weird as it can get, so the best equivalent for Mega Man would have to be the so-bad-it's-good-but-still-kinda-bad box art from Mega Man 1

in the US.

Taiwanese gaming site Gamer recently posted a few images of movesets available to the Street Fighter x Tekken cast. While the movesets are useful, the big news is the revelation of characters. M. The PlayStation Vita version of Street Fighter x Tekken won't make it out alongside the PS3 and Xbox 360 version on March 8. Capcom said today that Vita owners will have to wait until Fall.

But Vita owners can look forward to some big bonuses. The Vita version will have twelve additional characters.

The Street Fighter cast will be updated with Elena, Guy, Cody, Sakura, Dudley and Blanka. The Tekken side will be updated with Alisa, Christie, Jack, Bryan, Lars and Lei.
